A sldier frm Wrld War I tells ne f his war memries…During the war, I had t wrk n an air base in Suth Africa. I remember nce we had 24 hurs ff-duty, my friends and I had a night ut in the twn. We were walking slwly back t the base at abut midnight, talking abut the evening, when smene mentined/chatted Suth Africa’s famus wild animals. We were chatting/swearing abut stries we’d heard when suddenly my friend, Bb, begged us t be quiet.
“Be quiet yurself!” smebdy greeted/replied. Then I heard them. “N, everyne be quiet,” I whispered/swre. And then we all culd hear the lins. “Quick, run!” smene mentined/ shuted. We all ran twards ur base. Everyne made it back except me - I fell int a trench! I stayed there till mrning when I climbed ut and walked back t the base. My friendswhispered/greeted me like a her. They thught I’d been eaten! l swre/chatted that I’d never g drinking and then walking in the wild at night again.
