Everyone meets troubles and difficulties, and everyone needs to get negative feelings out of their own systems. Do you have a person, a place or even an object that you turn to whenever you need a listener and comfort? Welcome to post your stories below.
    Sun Flower
When I am thinking about relieving stress, thoughts of my school’s cherry trees instantly fill my mind. It is this place where I take a walk every day after lunch that helps me to reflect on myself and prepare for my afternoon classes. When the tree blooms in the summer, it will symbolize the time that we need to say goodbye to our school and graduate. Enjoying the fresh air and warm sunshine and whispering to the lovely trees about both my progress and challenges are my special ways to find comfort.

    Amy
When I have troubles in my life and find it difficult to talk to my friends, then I have a tendency to share them with strangers online. One of the reasons is that it seems easier to tap on the screen of the mobile phone than to speak because, in this case, my anxiety is minimized. In addition, I can freely control the chat content and express my emotions without worrying about being interrupted. Most importantly, social media gives me a feeling of security. Often we don’t know who the other person is on social media, so we can speak freely without reservation.
    Enkaer
I have a friend with whom I can talk about any of my worries — I often call him “Mr Tree Hole”. He has been my good friend since high school. Whenever I complain to him and seek help, he always patiently listens to me and magically calms me down. He is always there to “hear out” my daily small things, so I am more than willing to share many small things with him. He is truly a reliable shoulder for me to cry on.

    1. Who prefers an object to deal with negative feelings?
    A. Sun Flower. B. Amy. C. Enkaer. D. Mr Tree Hole.
    2. Which is not Amy’s opinion on the advantage of sharing troubles online?
    A. It is easier to tap on the screen of a mobile phone than to speak.
    B. Social media provides a sense of security.
    C. People can speak with reservation on social media.
    D. Emotions can be expressed freely online.
    3. Where are you most likely to read this article?
    A. In a daily newspaper. B. In a social magazine.
    C. In a student handbook. D. In a blog post.
根据文章Sun Flower部分中的“When I am thinking about relieving stress, thoughts of my school’s cherry trees instantly fill my mind. It is this place where I take a walk every day after lunch that helps me to reflect on myself and prepare for my afternoon classes. When the tree blooms in the summer, it will symbolize the time that we need to say goodbye to our school and graduate. Enjoying the fresh air and warm sunshine and whispering to the lovely trees about both my progress and challenges are my special ways to find comfort.(当我想到缓解压力时,我的脑海里立刻浮现出学校里的樱花树。这是我每天午饭后散步的地方,帮助我反思自己,为下午的课做准备。当树在夏天开花的时候,它将象征着我们需要告别学校和毕业的时间。享受新鲜的空气和温暖的阳光,对着可爱的树低语我的进步和挑战是我寻找安慰的特殊方式)”可知,当Sun Flower遇到负面情绪时,会对着学校的樱花树倾诉。故选A。
根据文章Amy部分中的“Often we don’t know who the other person is on social media, so we can speak freely without reservation.(通常我们在社交媒体上不知道对方是谁,所以我们可以毫无保留地自由地说话)”可知,Amy认为我们可以在社交媒体上毫无保留地说话。 C“People can speak with reservation on social media.(人们可以在社交媒体上有保留地发言)”不是Amy的观点。

Pamela Malhotra has always attached great importance to education. However, life always seemed to “get in the way” every time she tried to finish her bachelor’s degree. The single mom was so devoted to working to support her two children that she repeatedly put her own education goals on hold, giving up her college program on two separate occasions over the years.
When he was just five years old, her son Bonifacio Malhotra noticed her struggling to get her degree, and he made a promise to help her. “I remember I just told my mom … one day, it’s gonna be you and me,” Bonifacio said. “We’re going to gain our degrees at the same time.” Those words proved to be prophetic for the mom-and-son duo, who currently walked across the stage at the university to collect their bachelor’s degrees together!
“That promise, he never allowed it to die,” said Pamela. “He continuously confirmed that we’re gonna do this.” Their path to graduation wasn’t easy, but Bonifacio stayed true to his promise and helped his mother along the way. The two hold two associate’s degrees each, so in the fall of 2021 they registered together in bachelor-level online courses. They both found the classes challenging, but Bonifacio stepped up as the cheerleader his mother needed. “Mom, you’ve got to keep it going. I know you want to stop. We must keep going,” Bonifacio recalled. “The main thing was just trying to get everything lined up and stay on top of all the work.”
It took the Malhotras two years to finish their bachelor’s degrees, hers in humanities and Bonifacio’s in public safety administration. Pamela plans to stay at her job as a coordinator, and Bonifacio has accepted a job at university to help other students succeed in college, too.
Pamela said she was incredibly proud of her son’s achievement, and she personally couldn’t have reached her lifelong goal without the support of her family, especially him. “Between my son and my daughter, they were my greatest supporter,” Pamela proudly said.
    4. What does the underlined word “prophetic” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A. Professional. B. Particular. C. Precious. D. Predictable.
    5. What do we know about the Malhotras?
    A. They took online courses at the same time.
    B. Pamela thought the courses were more challenging.
    C. Bonifacio majored in humanities at university.
    D. Pamela now works as a university teacher.
    6. Which of the following statement can best describe Bonifacio?
    A. He’s the good man of the house. B. He’s a man of all work.
    C. He’s a man among men. D. He’s a man of his word.
    7. What can be the best title of the the passage?
    A. We Value the Time Being with Families
    B. Families Help Each Other
    C. The Home Is Our Heaven
    D. Each Family Has Its Own Problems
D 5. A 6. D 7. B
根据画线词上文“We’re going to gain our degrees at the same time. (我们将同时获得学位)”和下文“who currently walked across the stage at the university to collect their bachelor’s degrees together (目前,他们一起走过大学里的讲台领取学士学位)”可知,Bonifacio曾对母亲Pamela说过两人将同时获得学位,后来他们真的做到了。 A.
根据第三段中“The two hold two associate’s degrees each, so in the fall of 2021 they registered together in bachelor-level online courses. (两人各自拥有两个副学士学位,所以在2021年秋季,他们一起注册了学士学位的在线课程)”可知,儿子Bonifacio和母亲Pamela同时参加了在线课程。故选A项。
根据第三段中“That promise, he never allowed it to die (那个承诺,他从未让它消失)”和“Their path to graduation wasn’t easy, but Bonifacio stayed true to his promise and helped his mother along the way. (他们的毕业之路并不容易,但Bonifacio信守诺言,一路帮助他的母亲)”可知,Bonifacio信守对母亲的诺言,在攻读学位的过程中帮助母亲,最终让梦想成真。因此,他是个守信用的人。故选D项。
    【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,并结合最后一段中“Pamela said she was incredibly proud of her son’s achievement, and she personally couldn’t have reached her lifelong goal without the support of her family, especially him.
    C
A Spanish project is attempting to 3D print coral reefs (珊瑚礁) to provide habitat for fish and protection for beaches and coastal communities at risk from rising seas and other damage.
Coral reefs are massively decreasing globally, and some scientists say we could lose 70-90% of our reefs due to warming ocean waters. That has all kinds of serious consequences because a quarter of the world’s fish live in and around reefs, reefs are critically important protectors of beach communities threatened by high waves and tides, and they support a massive amount of biodiversity. That led marine biologist Lizzie Fane and her co-founder Alfred Martel, a computer scientist, to start Coastruction, a non-profit organization.
“Even if you start on a small scale (规模) ... a square kilometer already, it could have a great impact,” Martel says. “It could really protect a coast, a beach, or an area where there is a community living and they need protection because the sea is rising.”
Being able to 3D print is important, because you match individual sites. Every location is different with different coral species. “It’s like everybody has a different house,” Fane says. “You can take into account habitat requirements of not just the coral but also the fish that live nearby.”
Their current technology can print various shapes. The result can be an amazingly natural-looking man-made rock with plenty of corners for both coral and other fish to attach themselves and make homes.
The Coastruction founders don’t think they can possibly meet the global demand, so their goal is to provide the tools — like the 3D printer — for local people and design the technology to use cheap and locally-available materials to create the artificial coral reefs. No high temperatures or chemical additives are required, and any loose powder or sand material not used in one print will be used in the next. The 3D printer works on-site, so there’s no transport of finished blocks required.
    8. What does the underlined word “That” in paragraph 2 refer to?
    A. The biodiversity of coral reefs.
    B. The reduction in coral species.
    C. The protection coral reefs provide.
    D. The loss of global coral reefs.
    9. What do Martel’s words imply?
    A. 3D-printed reefs can hardly save oceans.
    B. Small actions can make a lot of difference.
    C. Small-scale production of reefs is a drop in the ocean.
    D. 3D-printed reefs fail to provide perfect fish habitat.
    10. What do we know about the current 3D reef printing?
    A. It can just print regular-shaped reefs.
    B. It can use any material to produce reefs.
    C. It can create lifelike reefs.
    D. It can meet the global demand for reefs.
    11. What is one goal of the Coastruction founders?
    A. Adapting their technology to local conditions.
    B. Putting their reefs into mass production.
    C. Transporting finished reefs to where they are needed.
    D. Adding chemicals to reefs to make them colorful.
D 9. B 10. C 11. A
根据划线单词上一句“Coral reefs are massively decreasing globally, and some scientists say we could lose 70-90% of our reefs due to warming ocean waters.(全球范围内的珊瑚礁正在大量减少,一些科学家表示,由于海水变暖,我们可能会失去70-90%的珊瑚礁)”可知,划线单词“that”指的正是上一句的内容,即全球范围内的珊瑚礁正在大量减少。
根据文章第三段““Even if you start on a small scale (规模) ... a square kilometer already, it could have a great impact,” Martel says. “It could really protect a coast, a beach, or an area where there is a community living and they need protection because the sea is rising.”(“即使你从小规模开始……一平方公里,它可能会产生巨大的影响,” Martel说。“它可以真正保护海岸、海滩或社区生活的地区,因为海平面正在上升,他们需要保护。”)”可知,Martel认为从小事做起,也会产生巨大的影响。故选B。
    【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第五段“Their current technology can print various shapes. The result can be an amazingly natural-looking man-made rock with plenty of corners for both coral and other fish to attach themselves and make homes.(他们目前的技术可以打印各种形状。结果就会是一块看起来非常自然的人造岩石,有很多角落可供珊瑚和其他鱼类附着和筑巢)”可知,目前的3D珊瑚礁打印能够打印出看起来非常自然的人造岩石,有很多角落可供珊瑚和其他鱼类附着和筑巢。故选C。
    【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第四段“Being able to 3D print is important, because you match individual sites. Every location is different with different coral species. “It’s like everybody has a different house,” Fane says. “You can take into account habitat requirements of not just the coral but also the fish that live nearby.”(能够3D打印是很重要的,因为你可以匹配各个地方。每个地方都有不同的珊瑚种类。“就像每个人都有不同的房子,” Fane说。“你不仅可以考虑珊瑚的栖息地要求,还可以考虑生活在附近的鱼类的栖息地要求。”)”以及最后一段“The Coastruction founders don’t think they can possibly meet the global demand, so their goal is to provide the tools — like the 3D printer — for local people and design the technology to use cheap and locally-available materials to create the artificial coral reefs.( Coastruction的创始人认为他们不可能满足全球的需求,所以他们的目标是为当地人提供工具,比如3D打印机,并设计技术,使用廉价和当地可用的材料来制造人工珊瑚礁)”可知,Coastruction的创始人认为3D打印应该考虑珊瑚礁所处的环境,希望他们的技术能够适应当地的情况。故选A。
    D
Artificial intelligence (AI) has hit the headlines in recent months, particularly since the launch of ChatGPT in November. The chatbot can not only answer a broad range of questions, but also create original poems and stories.
Japan’s first fully AI-created comic, Cyberpunk: Peach John, was released on March 9 by Shinchosha, a major publishing house.
The comic is based on the futuristic imagination of the author, whose pen name is Rootport. It describes how the Japanese folklore (民间传说) hero Momotaro, who is said to have been born from a giant peach, lives in a dystopian (反乌托邦的) future.
All the fancy futuristic objects and creatures in the book, however, were designed and created by Midjourney along with other popular online image-generation AI tools such as Stable Diffusion and DALL-E 2.
Unlike traditional comic volumes which are usually black-and-white and short in length, Cyberpunk: Peach John comes in full color and spans more than 100 pages. A work of this length would normally take over a year to complete by even authors who are familiar with comic creation. However, with AI creation, it took the writer a surprisingly short period — only six weeks — to finish the whole work.
Despite gaining widespread attention as the first fully AI-drawn comic in Japan, the work has also raised some questions and concern as well. According to Gulf News and CNN, some people are worried that AI technology will threaten jobs and copyright ownership in the nation’s thriving comic book industry, as well as creativity and artistic value.
One Twitter user described the project as “an absolute insult (侮辱) to comic and comic artists everywhere.” Another wrote: “Weird to publish a comic by AI when your country has some of the most talented artists in existence.”
But Rootport has insisted that his comic book should be considered a work of art. “AI cannot yet create a perfect work on its own. Human assistance is essential,” he said.
    12. Who is the writer of the comic, Cyberpunk: Peach John?
    A. Shinchosha. B. Rootport. C. Momotaro. D. Midjourney.
    13. Which of the following is true?
    A. The comic book is colorful and extremely time-saving in creation.
    B. AI technology will definitely threaten jobs and copyright ownership.
    C. Japan has the most talented comic artists in the world.
    D. The comic book is considered a work of art.
    14. What’s people’s attitude towards the AI-drawn comic in the text?
    A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Unconcerned. D. Neutral.
    15. What is the main idea of the text?
    A. AI-drawn comics have advantages over traditional ones.
    B. AI-drawn comics have become a new trend in Japan.
    C. Japan released its first fully AI-created comic.
    D. People have different opinions on the first AI-created comic.
B 13. A 14. B 15. C
