Life is like a roller coaster, and every point has ups and downs. People plan something, but luck and sometimes misfortunes lead them toward a different destination. However, passionate individuals are not scared of such uncertainties. They set goals, welcome challenges, overcome obstacles, and eventually achieve what satisfies them.
Those who stay committed to their broad goals and find satisfaction even in unplanned circumstances are truly victorious. One true example of such people comes from a woman passionate about spreading happiness and helping others. Nicole Thornes is a mother, a former police officer, and now serving society as a death doula (陪护师).
Nicole joined the police academy intending to be helpful to society. She believed that a police officer has the opportunity to eliminate crime, bring justice, and create a better society for everyone. Although she became a mother during her studies and her responsibilities were increased due to children, she didn’t give up on her passion. Nicole could have called off her studies, but her passion for serving society didn’t let her step down. With great efforts, she finally became a police officer and gave her contributions to law enforcement and the betterment of society. She was not only a police officer making full commitment to the society but also a mother who played her responsibilities in the best way possible.
Everything went according to her plans, but uncertainty called off her journey as a police officer. Nicole suffered from an injury in a mission that ended her career in the police force. But her dreams and passion did not let her stop. She became a death doula to continue her dream. She chose this field after her grandfather’s death, when she couldn’t bear the pain of losing him. The guy who ate a $120,000 banana in an art museum says he was just hungry
Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan is well known for his inspiring works, but his signature work — a banana taped to a wall — was lately destroyed for a simple reason; the hunger it aroused in a college student. The work named “Comedian” (喜剧演员) has previously sold for $120,000, most famously at Art Basel Miami in 2019. While a college student who recently viewed the art in a Seoul museum said he ate the banana after skipping breakfast.
The art in question, Comedian, which was a frequently replaced fresh banana, was taped on the wall. It is meant to indicate everything from Charlie Chaplin’s comedy to the fruit’s status as a symbol of global trade.
However, it spoke to Noh Huyn-soo, the college student, in simpler terms, reminding him that he had skipped breakfast that morning. So when he visited Seoul’s Leeum Museum of Artlate at noon last week, Noh seized the yellow fruit and ate it, ignoring the alarmed cry of a museum worker. It took Noh around 1 minute to tear off the banana and eat it. Then, he reattached the peel to its spot on the wall
Noh told the museum that he ate the art because he was hungry, according to Korean public broadcaster KBS, which aired a video of his actions that was recorded by his friend. But Noh, who studies art and religion at Seoul National University, also expressed the artist’s intent and suggested his own actions might qualify as art, as he transformed Cattelan’s work and put it back on display.
The Noh drama lasted only around 30 minutes, as museum workers restored a second banana to the spot. And the museum won’t charge Noh for any damages. Because when the artist was told about the ruined work, he replied that it wasn’t a problem.
    8.What is the article?
A.A museum guidance. B.A news report. C.A travel blog. D.A life story.

C.He meant to make a popular blog to have fun.
D.He was told to do so for the sake of new art.
11.What does the artist think of the destroyed work?
    A.Absolutely serious. B.Terribly influential. C.Rarely typical. D.Scarcely important.

Lately, it’s felt like technological change has entered an incredible speed. Companies like OpenAI and Google have unveiled new Artificial Intelligence systems with incredible capabilities, making what once seemed like science fiction an everyday reality. It’s an era that is raising big, existential questions for us all, about everything from the future of human existence to the future of human work.
“Things are changing so fast,” says Erik Brynjolfsson, a leading, technology-focused economist based at Stanford University. As he notes, this new wave of technological change looks like it could be pretty different. Unlike before, experienced and skilled workers benefited mostly from AI technology. In this new wave, it’s the less experienced and less skilled workers who benefit the most. “And that might be helpful in terms of closing some of the inequality that previous technologies actually promoted,” Brynjolfsson says. So one benefit of intelligence machines is—maybe —they will improve the know-how and smarts of low performers, thereby reducing inequality.
But it’s also possible that Al could lower the profit of the experienced, smart, or knowledgeable ones. AI could reduce inequality by bringing the bottom up, and it could also reduce inequality by bringing the top and middle down.
Of course, as Erik put, it’s also possible that Al could end up increasing inequality even more. For one, it could make the Big AI companies, which own these powerful new systems, wildly rich. It could also empower business owners to replace more and more workers with intelligent machines. And it could kill jobs for all but the best of the best in various industries, who keep their jobs because maybe they’re superstars or because maybe they have seniority.
The effects of AI, of course, are still very much being studied-and these systems are evolving fast — so this is just an assumption. This machine intelligence could upend much of the previous thinking on which kinds of jobs will be affected by automation.
12.What do the underlined words “the know-how and smarts” mean in paragraph 2?
A.Experience and intelligence. B.Skills and potential.
C.Abilities and experience. D.Outlook and talents.
13.Who will gain more in this new AI era?
A.The senior with high rank. B.The new with little experience.
C.The learned with great credit. D.The poor with practical skills.
14.Which statement will Erik probably agree with?
A.The fast development of AI will promote the division of inequality.
B.The best of all walks of life will survive the competition against AI systems.
C.Giant Al companies will be the winner in the future world of new AI systems.
D.Lower rank workers with little knowledge are bound to be abandoned by employers.
15.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.The Fast Growth of the World B.The Influence of the Inequality
C.The Impact of the AI System D.The Future of the AI Generation

She spent every waking moment practicing, determined to give it her all on the big day.
When the day of the competition arrived, Marie was nervous but excited. She had trained hard for this moment for years and felt confident in her well-prepared dancing. As she walked onto the stage, the bright lights blinded her momentarily, but she quickly regained her composure and began to dance.
The music swirled around her as she moved gracefully across the stage. Her movements were fluid and precise, each step perfectly executed. The audience watched in awe as Marie danced, completely lost in the moment.
But then, it happened. During a particularly difficult jump, Marie landed awkwardly on her ankle and felt a sharp pain shoot up her leg. She tried to ignore it and continue dancing, but the pain was too much. She fell to the floor, clutching her leg in agony.

47.One day, she heard a knock on her hospital room door and in came Jenny, her toughest opponent in the dance competition. Marie was surprised and a little skeptical of why Jenny would want to visit her. After all, they had been fierce competitors just days earlier and didn’t really know each other outside of the competition. Jenny gently walked close and sat by Marie, explaining that as a fellow dancer, she understood the pain and suffering, and just wanted to offer support to Marie during this challenging time. Since then, Jenny continued to visit Marie at the hospital regularly, bringing her flowers and gifts to lift her spirits. Every time Marie felt depressed, Jenny would offer words of encouragement and support.
Slowly, she felt more open to accepting Jenny’s help and support. Jenny even went with Marie to physical therapy sessions, supporting her as she worked through the painful exercises and stretches. She would hold her hand and cheer her on, reminding her that each small step was getting her closer to achieving her goals. As Marie slowly started to regain her strength and mobility, Jenny became an integral part of her recovery process. And their friendship continued to grow stronger as they supported each other through the ups and downs of their journey.
