引导学生根据单元标题和主题图了解单元主题。

 What can you see in the painting? Who are these people? What are they doing?

 What does the painting make you think about and how does it make you feel?

 Why do you think the painter created this work of art? What idea did the painter want to convey?

Task 2: Discuss the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson

教师引导学生讨论爱默生的名言“Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.”并进一步表达自己对艺术的理解。

 Why do you think people create art and what do they want to convey to their audience?

Step 1 Pre-reading

Task: Discussion

引导学生观察本部分展示的两幅绘画作品，发表自己对于画作的不同看法，然后鼓励学生根据画作的风格特点猜测其创作时期，以激活学生的已有知识，激发学生的学习兴趣，使他们形成阅读期待，为后续的阅读活动作铺垫。

Step 2 While-reading

Task 1: Global reading

引导学生快速浏览文本标题、首段和文中的小标题，获取文章的主旨大意，通过画结构图来展示文本的组织结构。

Task 2: Detailed reading

引导学生仔细阅读文本，获取文本细节信息，根据以下表格栏目总结不同时期西方绘画作品的风格特点及代表人物，完成教材第三页活动2的流程图。

Step 3 Post-reading

引导学生从阅读文本中找出表达“变化”的单词、词块和句子，首先进行分类总结，然后进一步挖掘文本深层信息，归纳造成西方绘画艺术发展变化的因素。

Task 1: Present and sort out the words and expressions that indicate “change”.

让学生展示自己所找到的与“变化”相关的表达方式，并对它们进行分类梳理和归纳。

Task 2: Do evidence-based reading to find out the factors/reasons.

让学生在了解“什么变了”的基础上，进一步思考“为什么变”，深入挖掘西方绘画艺术风格不断变化的因素并进行梳理。

1. Read the words and expressions indicating “change”. Discuss the following questions in groups.

 Why have Western painting styles been changing?

 What are the factors that have influenced the changes in Western painting styles? Give your reasons.

2. Make a list of the factors that made the changes in Western painting styles.

List of factors: religion; the uses of art; the artists’ attitude or understanding about art; new ideas and values; new techniques; new tools; inventions; outstanding artists ...

3. Share your opinions with the class.

Step 4 Homework

1. Practise the words and expressions learned in this class.

2. Finish Activity 3 on Page 3.

3. Discuss the questions in Activity 4 and share your ideas with each other.
