I used to overeat. I’ve never been significantly overweight, so people are surprised to hear this. When you think of overeating, you think of someone who is above their natural weight range, right? Well, I used to purposefully undereat as well. I was able to keep my weight within some control, but only through a lot of physical and mental pain.
    Here’s a glimpse(一瞥)into my life as a first-year university student:
Friday:Go to a party and eat a lot of chips. Feel guilty and regretful. Vow(发誓)to wake up and run an extra mile.
Saturday: Run 6 miles, come home and only eat a tiny breakfast. Eat like a bird for the rest of the day. Feel proud of myself.
Sunday: Study and snack on chocolate chips all day. Feel sick.
Monday: Head to class with no snack and no money so that I can't buy any food. Feel hungry but full of willpower. Go home and overeat at dinner. Feel out of control.
My feelings were changing regularly. I was proud and in control one moment, and then full of regret and out of control the next. It was exhausting.
As I studied nutrition and human anatomy(人体解剖学)in university,I started to learn just how amazing the human body is! The human body is an amazing, self-regulatory system. It knows exactly how much food 'it needs. When I learned this, my whole world changed. I stopped trying to manage my eating with willpower. Instead of trying to power through my hunger, I would provide my body with healthy foods, so I would feel hungry less often.
This process definitely took some work and reflection, but after a while it became second nature. Eating has become a joyful experience, instead of a source of stress and worry in my life. All my eating is now guilt-free! I shamelessly eat unhealthy snacks without regret. Of course, the majority of my food intake does come from whole, healthy foods that are close to nature.
24.What can we know about the author's weekly life as a freshman?

26.Which is the most suitable title to this passage?
    A.Have a balanced diet B.Control your weight
C.Eating can be a pleasant thing D.Enjoy snacks without guilt
27.How does the author develop the text?
A.By giving instructions. B.By sharing a personal experience.
C.By discussing research findings. D.By explaining a process.

Harvesting fruit is a very precise operation. The fruit must be picked when it is perfectly ripe. But with pickers in short supply in recent years, growers needed to quickly find another way to harvest their crops. Tevel Aerobotics Technologies came to the farmers’ rescue with the Flying Autonomous Robots (FARs) that can help pick fruit.
“Not finding enough fruit pickers is every farmer’s biggest concern,” Yaniv Maor, Tevel’s founder and CEO said. Ask any farmer, anywhere in the world and they’ll tell you they don’t have the people. Food consumption is increasing, but labor availability (劳动力可用性) is decreasing. If pickers are not available, fruit will go bad on the trees. The flying robots will work day and night in almost any weather, without taking a break, to pick as much ripe fruit as possible.
Maor set up Tevel in 2017 and developed the technology after seeing young Israelis pick fruit and get tired after a few hours. He realized that there had to be a better way, so he began developing the software and artificial intelligence (AI) that are needed for the smart robot pickers. “We have to teach the robots about the structure of each fruit, how to access the fruit and how to rotate (转动) it and disconnect it from the tree,” Maor said.
The flying robots circle round trees and pick only the ripe ones with a twist (扭动) of their integrated grasper arms. The robots are fitted with cameras that use AI to assess the size and color of the fruit so that only the ripe ones are picked. The cameras also ensure that the robots’ paths are not blocked.
The robots are currently picking Asian pears in Israel. In 2022, the FARs were used in pilot programs in Italy to pick peaches and other fruits, as well as in the US. They are not a replacement for labor, instead, they are a solution for the inadequate human pickers. In the future fewer people will work in picking and more will work in managing the robots, analyzing the data and making decisions.

    28. Why are the FARs developed?
    A. To improve the software and AI for smart robots. B. To meet the shortage of pickers to pick fruit.
    C. To help farmers keep the fruit in perfect condition. D. To relieve farmers from the tiredness of picking fruit.
    29. What can we infer from paragraphs 2 and 3?
A.The FARs can work without stop in almost any weather.
    B. The FARs can produce more fruit for food consumption.
    C. Labor shortage is an urgent problem in every country.
    D. Maor developed the FARs out of curiosity.
    30. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A.Where the robots are used. B. What the robots consist of.
    C. Why the robots are useful. D. How the robots work.
    31. What is the author’s attitude towards the FARs?
    A.Positive. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Unclear.
    D
Life as an astronaut has various unique attractions. This can include experiencing weightlessness and looking back at Earth as a pale blue dot. Food is not among them. Space travelers over the years have become used to certain foods such as freeze-dried ice cream and liquid salt and pepper. Now,the menu is set to be augmented, with the first space-grown lettuce(生菜)found to be as safe, nutritious and fresh as the Earth-grown variety.
Gioia Massa of NASA Kennedy Space Center is the lead scientist on the lettuce-growing project. She said that growing food in space could be wonderful for astronauts on missions lasting more than one month. “If you store packaged food for a long time, not only will the flavour and nutritional quality decrease, but the vitamins will degrade. After eating such food, astronauts' intake of nutrition is not ensured," she said. “Besides, for them, there may also be psychological benefits of growing and looking after plants.
Lettuce has been grown in batches(分批)onboard the International Space Station (ISS).The vegetable production system is known as Veggie. It is made up of plant pillows (sealed units containing ceramic soil),LED lighting and a watering system that allows astronauts to inject water through a tube. The lettuce crops grow undisturbed for 33 to 56 days before being harvested and eaten, or deep-frozen and returned to Earth for chemical and biological analysis.
The space-grown lettuces are similar in make-up to Earth-grown ones but they have higher levels of bacteria(细菌),possibly due to their growth in a warmer, more humid(潮湿的)and closed-air system. But they are not found to carry any harmful bacteria.
NASA is now enlarging the range of produce grown onboard the ISS. It will be quite some time before any vegetables can be transformed into a dish, however. “While we have nowhere to cook up there now, we can look forward to more things that taste fresh," Massa explained.
32.What does the underlined word "augmented" probably mean in Paragraph 1?
    A.Measured. B.Engaged. C.Reduced. D.Enlarged.
33.What do we know about growing space-grown lettuce?
A.It's flavor and nutritional quality decline. B.It can contribute to astronauts' mental health.
C.It is terrible for astronauts on missions. D.It will make sure the astronauts' intake of nutrition.
34.What can we infer from the text?
A.Lettuces will be grown in batches onboard.
B.It will take at least 56 days to harvest the space-grown lettuce crop.
C.The vegetable production system consists of three parts.
D.Thanks to growing environment, the space-grown lettuces don't contain any harmful bacteria.
    35. What does Massa mainly intend to explain in the last paragraph?
A.The expectation to enrich the variety of produce grown onboard.
B.The necessity to enlarge the space onboard.
C.The desire to enjoy cooked vegetables onboard.
D.The difficulty in growing produce onboard.

Everyone needs friendship to survive. How do we strengthen the existing friendships in our lives? 36
Show your affection to your friends.
We often think of affection as a sort of love in romantic relationships. But it’s more than holding hands and kissing. It’s about communicating love and appreciation. There are many ways you can show love to your friends. Tell them how much they mean to you. 37 These simple acts show you genuinely care for them and let them know it’s safe to invest in your friendship.
    Be generous to your friends.
Think about what your skills and talents are and find a way to turn them into a generous act. Sharing your time, attention or resources with them is an easy way to develop your friendships. People want to stay with friends who value them, and generosity is a way to express that. You can share acts of generosity with your friends. If you’re great with kids, you might offer to babysit for your friends who are parents. 38
    39
Think about how good it feels to tell a friend you secretly like a trashy (无聊的) TV show and hear them respond “Me too!” We feel a deeper connection to our friends when our vulnerability (脆弱) is met with support. It means they accept us for who we really are, the good and the bad. So don’t be afraid to share your struggles with your friends. It may bring you closer.
    Face conflict bravely.
40 But being able to deal with conflict with friends in a healthy, constructive way can strengthen your friendships. It might be painful at first, but it shows you want to make your relationship better.

    A. Share your struggles and joys.
    B. It’s hard to deal with conflict in friendships.
    C. And remind them you are grateful to know them.
    D. Here some experts offer the following tips.
    E. It is more likely to build deep, long-lasting friendships.

    An Act of Neighborliness
The skies were dark. A strong wind was blowing hard, cutting my face like a sharp knife. Rain fell in big drops and thunder and lightning flashed across the skies.I shook with cold and fear as I walked home, through the streams of muddy water. Some people were rushing by,completely wet in the heavy rain.
Along the way,I saw some schoolchildren holding their heavy schoolbags tightly and rushing home,I also saw that some road repair work had been abandoned by workers. Obviously, the workers had left in a hurry because of the storm. There were few signs and it was hard to see what was on the road.
There were pieces of wood and metal and it looked like a hole had been dug and hurriedly covered with boards.
I moved on but suddenly stopped as I heard some sounds. It sounded like children crying.I quickly turned back and went back to the place from where the sounds came.I was frightened! To my sadness,I found that two small children had fallen into the hole on the road. The boards had moved away with the force of the rushing water.I could hardly see the children as it was dark all around me.I told them that I was going to look for help.I knew the neighbors well, and they all shared a sense of neighborliness, willing to give a hand.

A few other neighbors also quickly joined the rescue party and together went to the road. They managed to get the children out of the watery hole safely. The children were scared silly and they shook all over with cold, not daring to make a movement.
    Para 2:
Hearing of what had happened, the children’s parents were in relief. They were very grateful to the neighbors who had helped to rescue the children and thanked them repeatedly. A flood of happiness welled up in me because I had been part of this act of neighborliness. It was a wonderful moment, one I would never forget. The neighbors had been great. They had helped people in need without hesitation. Bathed in much warmth, I headed for home.

W: I did the best in Chinese, but failed in math. I should have worked harder at this subject.
    Text 4
M: I am reading an article in the school magazine and learn that our school band needs another singer. You are such a good singer. Why not have a try?
W: Really? Thank you for telling me about it. I will sign up for it.
    Text 5
M: Hi, Lily, weekend is coming. What do you usually do on weekends?
W: On Saturday mornings, I usually do the cleaning at home, and in the evenings, I often go out for dinner with my friends. And I make it a rule to visit my parents on Sundays.
    Text 6
W: Excuse me, my flight has been delayed and there are a few questions. Can you help me?
M: Yes, madam. What can I do for you?
W: First of all, where can I exchange some currency?
M: You just go upstairs on the right, and you will see the currency exchange office.
W: Thank you. And can you tell me where the nearest restaurant is?
M: This airport has many. Just walk down that corridor and you can take your pick (自己选).
W: Great. One more thing, do you know when the duty-free shop opens?
M: I believe it opens at 10:00, madam.
    W: Thank you.
    M: You are welcome.
    Text 7
M: Wow, the commercials on this radio station are really long.
W: You’re funny, Henry. These aren’t commercials. This is talk radio.
M: What does that mean? This station doesn’t play music?
W: Nope. It has talk programs all day.
M: What could they possibly talk about for so long?
W: They mostly discuss current events. I appreciate their detailed news stories.
M: That’s interesting — I’m exactly the opposite. I get all of my news from Twitter because I don’t have the time to read long articles or listen to news broadcasts.
    Text 8
M: So, how are your children doing?
W: Good, but they’re pretty busy.
    M: Oh, I know.
W: I don’t think families spend enough time together — not like we used to.
M: That’s for sure. We used to do everything with our parents when we were children. We’d go to the park, things like that.
W: Yeah, my dad used to play basketball with us. Now it seems that my children want to do everything with their friends.
M: Oh, I know. Mine too. I can’t even get them to go to the movies with us.
W: Exactly. Well, maybe you can get them to come over to my house next weekend. We could all have a barbecue. Children are usually interested if there’s food and a pool!
M: OK, I’ll ask. Thanks, Mary.
    Text 9
W: Let me tell you some of our policies and practices here at Globe Insurance.
    M: All right.
W: We require all our employees to arrive on time for work. Employee character is very important to us. We expect everyone here at Globe Insurance to be hardworking, easy-going, and honest.
M: I’m glad to hear that.
W: We also try to do the best we can for our employees. We make every effort to listen to our employees’ concerns. Is there any additional information I can provide?
M: Yes, as a matter of fact, I have two questions. First, could you tell me whether I would be required to have a medical examination before I start work?
    W: Yes, of course.
M: And would it be necessary for me to work on weekends?
W: No, that wouldn’t be necessary.
M: I see. Well, I’ve probably taken up enough of your time. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
W: We’ll be in touch with you shortly.
M: OK, thank you. I’ll be waiting for the good news.
    Text 10
W: We have a little time before our next program, so let me tell you about some of the programs for the rest of the evening.
Here on Radio 4, at 8:30, we go over to Helston, in Cornwall for this week’s edition of our regular discussion program, It’s My Opinion. Over on Radio 3, also at 8:30, we have a concert of the 18th century Italian songs given by Gwen Harding with the Helston Festival Orchestra conducted by Frederick Davis.
If you’re a sports enthusiast, there’s a football commentary on Radio 2 at 9 o’clock. There’s commentary on the whole of the second half of the Scotland against Brazil match from Rio de Janeiro.
Moving on to later in the evening, the 10 o’clock news. Just a word about Radio 1, where this year’s London Pop Spectacular (精彩的表演) is being broadcast all evening until 11:30, live from Royal Victoria Hall in London. Now it’s 8:30, and we go over to Helston for this week’s edition of It’s My Opinion.
