We all need purpose in our lives. And so do dogs. Work is good for us. While holidays are great, after a while, we can miss our sense of routine, of duty and purpose. This is what happened to the German Shephard, Dorka. She was a bomb-detection (探测炸弹的) dog with the US Army in Afghanistan. Every day, with her owner Monte, she would look for bombs to protect the soldiers (士兵). 
When the dog and her owner’s duties were over, Monte brought Dorka home with him. But he soon found that Dorka was sad. In fact, she was depressed. She missed her job and the sense of purpose it gave her. Her owner tried different things to cheer her up but nothing seemed to work. Then he had an idea. 
He began hiding objects for Dorka to find. The objects had a similar smell to what Dorka had been trained to look for. He’d hide them under parked cars or other hidden places. On their walks, it would be Dorka’s job to find these hidden objects. Soon, Monte noticed Dorka’s ears stand up and that her youthful energy had returned.
“I immediately saw she was back to her happy self,” said Monte in a video he made for their TikTok channel, shared by the animal lovers’ site, The Dodo. “Seeing her happy makes me happy,” said Monte in the video. 
But why did this make Dorka so happy? It seems that she once again felt her purpose in life. Dorka had kept Monte safe in the war, and now Monte was looking after Dorka. What a beautiful friendship Monte and Dorka share!

An old farmer lived on a farm with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa got up early to read his thick book. His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.
One day the grandson asked, “Grandpa, I try to read the book just like you but I don’t understand it. What good does reading the book do?”

For many years doctors have warned us about the dangers of stress （压力） and have given us advice about how to cut down our stress levels. Everyone agrees that long﹣term stress，for example having to look after someone who has a long﹣lasting illness，is bad for our health and should be avoided whenever possible. However，some medical experts now believe that certain kinds of stress may actually be good for us.
Dr. Kyriazis，an anti﹣ageing expert，explains that what he calls "good stress" is helpful to our health and may，in fact，help us stay young and even live longer. Dr. Kyriazis says that "good stress" can strengthen （增强） our natural defenses which protect us from illnesses common among older people，such as Alzheimer's，arthritis，and heart problems. According to Dr. Kyriazis，running for a bus or having to work to a deadline （截止日期） are examples of "good stress"，that is，situations with short﹣term，low or middle level stress. The stress usually makes us react （反应） quickly and usefully，and gives us a sense of achievement—we did it! However，in both these situations，the stress does harm to the cells in our body or brain and they start to break down. But then the cell's own repair system "turns on" and it produces proteins which repair the cells that are harmed and remove harmful chemicals that can slowly cause disease. In fact，the body's reaction makes the cells stronger than they were before.
So next time your boss tells you that she wants to see that report finished and on her desk in 45 minutes，don't worry，just think of it as "good stress" which will have advantages for your long﹣term health!

Life is not a bed of roses. In our daily life, we unavoidably come across various difficulties now and then.
The biggest difficulty in Grade Nine was that I studied hard in math but I failed the exam again and again. I couldn’t understand why and I was so upset that I really wanted to give up.
