Ss: Ok. (Play the song from Unit 2, and all teachers and students sing along.) Teaching resources: PowerPoint slides Design intent: Through a lively song, activate students' enthusiasm, liven up the classroom atmosphere, and review the transportation methods learned in the previous lesson.
- Review some words and phrases. T: Fantastic! Now I have some word cards. Let's read and translate. (Teacher displays word cards with "slow, slow down, stop, wait, go, traffic lights". Students read and translate.) Teaching resources: Word cards Design intent: Through reading and recognizing word cards, review and reinforce the vocabulary learned in the previous lesson.
- Play a game Teacher raises homemade red, yellow, and green traffic lights. Students perform corresponding actions and verbal expressions. For example, when the teacher raises the red light, students stop and say "Stop and wait". Teaching resources: Homemade red, yellow, and green traffic lights Design intent: Through an action and verbal expression game, help students better understand and remember the knowledge through active participation.
Step 2: Lead-in
- Review the traffic rules. T: No matter where we go, it's important to follow the traffic rules. Let's review the traffic rules together. Ss: Slow down and stop at a yellow light. Stop and wait at a red light. Go at a green light. Design intent: By reviewing the three traffic rules, recap the content of the previous lesson and set the stage for the upcoming dialogue.
- Let’s try. (1) Introduce listening background. T: Look at the children. What are they doing? (Display the "Let's try" image to guide students' understanding of the context.) Mrs. Smith and the children are going to the nature park. What instructions might Mrs. Smith give the children? Can you guess? S1: She can tell them to stop and wait at a red light. ... (2) Listen to the tape and answer the question. What does Mrs. Smith tell the children to do? (3) T: Where is Wu Binbin? Why doesn’t he go with them? (Ask for a response by name.) Teaching resources: Recording device, tape Design intent: Through listening activities, cultivate students' listening skills and prepare them for the upcoming listening and speaking activities.
Step 3: Presentation
- Perceive the dialogue as a whole and answer questions. (1) T: Wu Binbin goes to the hospital to meet his grandpa. How can he get there? Let's guess. S1: He can go to the hospital by bus/... ... T: Now, let's read the text to find out the answer. (2) Students read the text on their own and answer questions. S1: He can take the No. 57 bus to get there. (Understand the word "No.", write the word on the board, lead the reading, chorus the word, lead the reading of the sentence, help students understand the sentence through a simple drawing, chorus the sentence.)
- Read the dialogue again, understand key sentences. (1) T: What are Wu Binbin and Mr. Jones talking about? Ss: They are discussing pictures of bikes. T: Where are the pictures from? Ss: They're from Mr. Jones’ cousin in the USA. (Understand the sentence, chorus the sentence.) (2) Teaching "In the USA people on bikes must... " T: What is happening in the picture? (Display an image of a person wearing a bike helmet.) S1: He’s riding a bike. T: What's this? (Point to the helmet, guide students to answer.) Ss: It's a helmet. (Write "helmet" on the board, teach the word, point to understand, chorus the word, spell it out.) T: What should you wear when riding a bike in the USA? (Guide students to answer.) Ss: In the USA, people on bikes must wear helmets. (Display the sentence on the screen, understand the sentence. Point out the word "wear," understand "wear," and emphasize the homophone "where." Group chorus the sentence.) (3) Teaching "Don’t... I must..." a. T: What is the correct action when you see the red light? S1: Slow down and stop. T: Correct. Don't go at the red light. (Display the sentence, understand the sentence, write "Don't..." on the board, explain the usage of "don't.") b. Present several images of breaking traffic rules, and students practice using "Don't..." c. T: We should always pay attention to the traffic lights. (Write "I must pay attention to the traffic lights" on the board, understand the words "must" and the phrase "pay attention to," teach the words, lead the reading, point to understand, group chorus the sentence. Use moral education to promote traffic safety awareness.)
- Read the text with the recording.
- Students read the dialogue in roles and perform the dialogue. Teaching resources: PowerPoint slides, recording device, tape Design intent: Through perceiving the dialogue as a whole, analyzing key sentences step by step, and then through reading and role-playing, cultivate students' reading ability and help them better understand the dialogue plot.
Step 4: Practice
- "I would say to him/her" Teacher presents images of real-life situations where traffic rules are broken or followed. Students judge and provide suggestions. For example, display an image of a child crossing the road at a red light. T: Is he/she right? Ss: No. T: What can you say to him/her? S1: Don't cross the road at a red light. It's dangerous. Teaching resources: PowerPoint slides Design intent: Through the activity "I would say to him/her," allow students to practice using the sentence pattern "Don't..." in practical contexts.
- Traffic Rules Around the World Teacher displays images, texts, or videos of traffic rules in different countries, and students compare them with Chinese traffic rules. Then, students orally express the differences. For example, students can use the sentence pattern "In China, you must... Don't... In England, ..." to express the traffic rules in different countries. Design intent: Broaden students' perspectives and develop their comprehensive language skills.
- Draw and Describe (1) Present traffic signs shown on page 16 of the textbook, and ask students where they can see these signs. (2) Students independently think of traffic signs in their daily lives, draw them, and discuss within their groups. Design intent: Through discussing the usage scenarios of traffic signs, enhance students' oral expression abilities.
Step 5: Summary T: Boys and girls, what did you learn from today's lesson? Students freely share their thoughts, and the teacher summarizes.
- Learned new words and phrases: No. helmet, pay attention to.
- Learned sentence patterns for discussing traffic rules: Don't ... I must... Design intent: By encouraging students to speak, help them summarize and organize the key points of this lesson for better consolidation.
