That's my dilemma with Morocco. In August, I traveled in a country that had long been on my wish list. I rode a camel, got lost in Medina, and ate a lot of couscous (蒸粗麦粉).I loved the trip. Our friendly guide introduced us to the helpful locals. I made friends with my tour mates and my roommate (which, on a tour, is a huge blessing). I loved being lost in the smell of different spices, and the chaos of millions of people and the dark red of the Sahara were all I wanted them to be.There were many moments when I felt like a fish out of water and things didn't go my way. But I take pleasure in those moments because it's when you are pushed out of your comfort zone that you grow. Morocco lived up to all my expectations, but for some reason, my experience has been hard to express. Why?One constant in my travels is that of a touchstone, one defining point where the trip all comes together and acts as a prism (三棱镜) for everything the journey represented. In Costa Rica, it was getting lost in a jungle. In Thailand, it was meeting those five people who changed my life.I'm so inconsistent about Morocco because I lack that touchstone. There's no big “whoa” moment. But I have thousands of little ones—staring at a million stars in the blackness of the desert, discovering new foods with some amazing Australians on my tour, and befriending the fish sellers.4.What does the author regard as a huge blessing?A.Going on a guided trip.B.Having a helpful guide.C.Being warmly received by the local people.D.Getting along well with the fellow travelers.5.What's the purpose of the fifth paragraph?A.To prove Morocco lacks the touchstone.B.To show his reliance on the touchstone.C.To compare Morocco with Costa Rica and Thailand.D.To share his experience in Costa Rica and Thailand.6.What made the author think the journey amazing?A.Lack of big moments.B.The little “whoa” moments.C.Meeting with five Thai people.D.Making friends with Australians.7.What does the author mainly talk about?A.Unpleasant travel in Morocco.B.Finding a touchstone on travel.C.Reflection on traveling in Morocco.D.Lack of special moments in Morocco.C[2022·泉州市高三质量监测(一)]When I worked on the manufacturing shop (车间) floor, we rarely saw plant managers, except for one. He often walked through the plant. He checked out product quality. He stopped for a brief word—usually no more than a “hello”. He wasn't outgoing. He didn't display any of the qualities typically associated with a “leader”. Yet we liked him.In a study of University of Pittsburgh in 1992, researchers had four women attend a number of different classes. Their attendance varied: one woman might attend every class; a different woman might attend only a few. What didn't vary was their behavior. None of the women spoke in class or spoke to other students. At the end of the term, students were asked which woman they liked best. Who “won”? Women who attended the highest number of classes. According to the researchers, “Mere exposure had weak effects on familiarity, but strong effects on attraction and similarity.” Or in nonresearcherwords: If I see you frequently, I naturally like you more. That's the power of showing up.Knowing someone will show up in the future also matters. In a 1967 University of Minnesota's study, researchers gave study participants profiles of two people and told them that one would be a partner in future discussion groups. When asked, the participants said they liked their future partner more. Even though the profiles were almost identical.Want your team or your customers to like you more? Show up. Drop in. Drop by. Send a brief note.Make a quick phone call. You don't have to say or do much. Then be consistent in your behavior. In time, people will expect you to drop in or drop by, whether in person or virtually. Anticipating future contact will make them like you more.8.What does the first paragraph serve as?A.An introduction. B.A background.C.A comment. D.An explanation.9.According to the 1992 study, what helps make a student welcome?A.Answering questions frequently.B.Greeting others enthusiastically.C.Behaving more like others.D.Attending classes more often.10.What did the University of Minnesota's study find?A.Familiarity contributes to likability.B.Identical behaviour enhances likability.C.Future partnership increases likability.D.Virtual contact benefits likability.11.What is the text mainly about?A.The power of likability.B.Research on likability.C.The definition of likability.D.The application of likability.D[2022·惠州高三第一次调研考试试题]When you walk on a sandy beach, it takes more energy than striding down a sidewalk—because the weight of your body pushes into the sand. As it turns out, the same thing is true for vehicles driving on roads. The weight of the vehicles creates a very shallow indentation (凹陷) in the pavement (路面) and this makes it like continuously driving up a very shallow hill.Jeremy Gregory, a sustainability scientist at M.I.T. and his team modeled how much energy could be saved—and how much greenhouse gases could be avoided—by simply stiffening (使变硬) the nation's roads and highways. And they found that stiffening 10 percent of the nation's roads every year could prevent 440 megatons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions over the next five decades—enough to offset half a percent of projected transportation sector emissions over that time period. To put those emission savings into context—that amount is equivalent to how much CO2 you'd spare the planet by keeping a billion barrels of oil in the ground—or by growing seven billion trees—for a decade. The results are in the Transportation Research Record. As for how to stiffen roads? Gregory says you could mix a small number of synthetic fibers or carbon nanotubes into paving materials. Or you could pave with cementbased concrete, which is stiffer than asphalt (沥青).This system could also be a way to shave carbon emissions without some of the usual hurdles. Usually, when it comes to reducing emissions in the transportation sector, you're talking about changing policies related to vehicles and also driver behavior, which involves millions and millions of people—as opposed to changing the way we design and maintain our pavements. That's just on the order of thousands of people who are working in transportation agencies. And when it comes to retrofitting(翻新) our streets and highways—those__agencies__are__where__the__rubber__meets__the__road.12.Why does the author mention “walk on a sandy beach” in Paragraph 1?A.To present a fact.B.To make a contrast.C.To explain a rule.D.To share an experience.13.What suggestion does the author give to reduce CO2 emissions?A.Hardening the road.B.Keeping oil in the ground.C.Growing trees for decades.D.Improving the transportation.14.What is the advantage of this suggestion?A.Gaining more support.B.Consuming less money.C.Involving more people.D.Facing fewer usual obstacles.15.What does the underlined part mean in the last paragraph?A.Those agencies are likely to make more rules.B.Those agencies will change some related policies.C.Those agencies might put more rubber tires on the roads.D.Those agencies will play a key role in making this happen. [2022·南京市、盐城市高三二模]Rules for Being the Age You AreIf you have recently entered that period of life known as middle age, the building years of your life will be over, and what you are now is pretty much what you are going to be. Soon it will be what you were. You can no longer tell yourself that you might move to Lisbon, learn Portuguese, and take up the guitar. __1__ Do not just give people credit. __2__Here's a funny thing I've learned: No matter how many times you hear them, the words “You are amazing, and here's why” never go out of style. Give yourself permission to be bad. You know what you're really good at? Things you've done many times before. Mastery is boredom. Unfortunately we enjoy feeling like masters. __3__ We keep ourselves bored to protect ourselves from feeling stupid. __4__Nine times out of ten, you'll be bored and go home early. But the tenth time, you will have a worthy experience to meet an interesting person. It will make up for those other wasted hours. Do that thing you want to do right now. I mean, literally, pause reading this column, pick up the phone, and book that skydiving session. RIGHT NOW. Don't put it off until you have the time to really relax and enjoy it. __5__It's highly possible that you won't be able to enjoy it. I will never forgive myself for passing up a chance to go to trapeze (高空秋千,吊架) school in my late 20s.A.Always do it later.B.We hate feeling like fools.C.Go home as late as possible.D.Tell them exactly how fantastic they are.E.Go to the party even when you don't want to.F.That would be approximately three decades from now.G.But a set of simple rules can guide you through the rest of the way. 根据Programme Details部分第二句中的“a guide by Pascale Petit, focusing on nature writing”可知,Pascale Petit关注的主题是自然,故B项正确。2. 根据第三段中的“I made friends with my tour mates and my roommate (which, on a tour, is a huge blessing)”可知,作者把与同行的人相处得很好看作巨大的好事。 根据第三段中的“Women who attended the highest number of classes”可知,去听课最多的女士最受喜爱。 考生根据第三段中的“That's the power of showing up”误认为本文主要讲述的是露面的力量。 根据文章第一段中的“As it turns out...driving on roads”可知,作者是以“walk on a sandy beach”为例来解释要说明的话题,因此选C。13. 根据第五段中的“This system could...the usual hurdles”可知答案,其中的hurdles与选项D中的obstacles含义相对应。15.
