Parisians are different from you and me. They never look lazy or untidy. As someone noted in this paper a couple of weeks ago, they eat great food and never gain weight. 38 French strawberries do not taste like cardboard. Instead, they explode in your mouth like little flavor bombs.
39 On our first morning in Paris, I went around the corner to the food market to pick up some groceries. I bought a handful of perfectly ripe small strawberries and a little sweet melon. My husband and I agreed they were the best fruit we had ever eaten. But they cost $18!
由此可推测,E项“That's not the only reason the French eat less than we do.”
    系统学习逻辑关联词语
    每篇文章都含有丰富多样的连接手段。考生需要系统学习逻辑关联词语,在备考练习中主动关注说明文和记叙文中有连接功能的词语,在语境中剖析复现和同现的词汇关系,以此甄别出隐蔽的逻辑关系,突破信息还原(七选五)解题的瓶颈。
    学习实践高效解题步骤
    高考信息还原(七选五)试题有多种解题步骤和方法,根据笔者多年教学实践,建议考生尝试运用“信息还原(七选五)解题五步法”:
    Step 1:浏览7个选项,有目的地展开阅读;
    Step 2:快速通读全文,了解文章结构和大意;
    Step 3:找出每段的关键词,明确各段的主题句或主旨大意;
    Step 4:根据段落主旨,运用“关键词”或“连接词”匹配原则从7个选项中选择答案:
    a.运用词义复现或同现方法,如同词复现、同义词复现、反义词复现或相似句式匹配等;
    b.根据选项和文章中的代词,找到所指代的词语或句子;
    c.运用连接词匹配原则,根据文章或段落逻辑关系解题;
    d.根据文章结构特点和背景知识进行合理推断。
    Step 5:带入选项,瞻前顾后,通读复检。

    Passage 1 (2022新高考Ⅰ)话题:体育健康
Fitness Magazine recently ran an article titled “Five Reasons to Thank Your Workout Partner.” One reason was: “You'll actually show up if you know someone is waiting for you at the gym,” while another read: “ 1 ” With a workout partner, you will increase your training effort as there is a subtle(微妙) competition.
So, how do you find a workout partner?
First of all, decide what you want from that person. 2 Or do you just want to be physically fit, able to move with strength and flexibility? Think about the exercises you would like to do with your workout partner.
You might think about posting what you are looking for on social media, but it probably won't result in a useful response. 3 If you plan on working out in a gym, that person must belong to the same gym.
My partner posted her request on the notice board of a local park. Her notice included what kind of training she wanted to do, how many days a week and how many hours she wanted to spend on each session, and her age. It also listed her favorite sports and activities, and provided her phone number. 4
You and your partner will probably have different skills. 5 Over time, both of you will benefit—your partner will be able to lift more weights and you will become more physically fit. The core of your relationship is that you will always be there to help each other.
A.Your first meeting may be a little awkward.
B.A workout partner usually needs to live close by.
C.You'll work harder if you train with someone else.
D.Do you want to be a better athlete in your favorite sport?
E.How can you write a good “seeking training partner” notice?
F.Just accept your differences and learn to work with each other.
G.Any notice for a training partner should include such information.

    Passage 2 (2022新高考Ⅱ)话题:善于学习
Writing an essay is a difficult process for most people. However, the process can be made easier if you learn to practice three simple techniques.
1 When you are first trying to think of ideas for an essay, put your pen to your paper and write nonstop for ten or fifteen minutes without letting your pen leave the paper. Stay loose and free. 2 Don't worry about grammar or spelling. Even though this technique won't work for everyone, it helps many people get a good store of ideas to draw on.
The next technique is to write your draft rapidly without worrying about being perfect. 3 Yet, by learning to live with imperfection, you will save yourself headaches and a wastepaper basket full of crumpled(弄皱) paper. Think of your first draft as a path cut out of the jungle—as part of an exploration, not as a complete highway.
The third technique is to try printing out a triple⁃spaced(三倍行距) copy to allow space for revision. 4 As a result, these writers never get in the habit of crossing out chunks(大块) of their draft and writing revisions in the blank space. After you have revised your draft until it is too messy to work from anymore, you can enter your changes into your word processor. 5 The resulting blank space invites you to revise.
A.Make sure your handwriting is neat.
B.Let your pen follow the waves of thought.
C.The second draft of the essay should be better.
D.First of all, learn the technique of nonstop writing.
E.Too many writers try to get their drafts right the first time.
F.Many beginning writers don't leave enough space to revise.
G.Then you can print out a fresh draft, again setting your text on triple⁃space.

    Passage 3 (2021新高考Ⅰ)话题:文化习俗
My husband and I just spent a week in Paris. 1 So the first thing we did was rent a fantastically expensive sixth⁃floor apartment the size of a cupboard. It was so tiny that we had to leave our suitcases in the hallway.
The place wasn't entirely authentic, though. Unlike a normal Parisian apartment, the plumbing(水管)worked. 2 Our building even had a tiny lift with a female voice that said, “Ouverture des portes,” in perfect French. That is the only French phrase I mastered, and it's a shame I don't have much use for it.
Parisians are different from you and me. They never look lazy or untidy. As someone noted in this paper a couple of weeks ago, they eat great food and never gain weight. 3 French strawberries do not taste like cardboard. Instead, they explode in your mouth like little flavor bombs.
4 On our first morning in Paris, I went around the corner to the food market to pick up some groceries. I bought a handful of perfectly ripe small strawberries and a little sweet melon. My husband and I agreed they were the best fruit we had ever eaten. But they cost $18!
In France, quality of life is much more important than efficiency(效率). You can tell this by café life. French cafés are always crowded. 5 When do these people work? The French take their 35⁃hour workweek seriously—so seriously that some labor unions recently struck a deal with a group of companies limiting the number of hours that independent contractors can be on call.
A.Not all the customers are tourists.
B.The quality of life in France is equally excellent.
C.There was a nice kitchen and a comfortable bed.
D.The amazing food is mainly consumed by local farmers.
E.That's not the only reason the French eat less than we do.
F.Our aim was to see if we could live, in some way, like real Parisians.
G.The food is so delicious that you don't need much of it to make you happy.

If the only reading you ever do is the novel or magazine, the speed at which you read probably does not matter very much. But if you have to read a great deal for study, you will appreciate the benefits of being able to read more quickly. 1
●Before you open the book, make sure that you are comfortable. You need a seat which supports your back and the book should be at the right distance from your eyes. 2
    ● 3 Look at the table of contents, the preface, the chapter heading, etc. This will help you to decide whether you really need to read the whole book or only certain parts of it. Ten minutes spent in this way could save you quite a lot of time in the long run.
●If you decide that you need to read the whole book, decide how much you can read at a time. 4 A history book which may contain the facts in story form will be easier to read than one dealing with scientific subjects. In the former case you may be able to read a chapter. In the latter you may only be able to read one page.
●Always keep a pencil and paper beside you. 5 Note also the facts important for your purpose as well as anything which leads you to further research. You don't have to write these things in detail. It is enough to put the page number and one or two words as a reminder.
A.Stop to have a rest now and then.
B.Spend a few minutes looking through the book.
C.This depends on the type of book you are reading.
D.Here are some tips to help improve your reading speed.
E.Make a note of any page which is of special importance.
F.You may find yourself having to learn something by heart.
G.Keep the room cool rather than warm to avoid feeling sleepy.

    Passage 5 (2020新高考Ⅰ)话题:社会交往
Some individuals are born with a gift for public speaking. 1 Do you want to be a good public speaker? Here are some principles you must master.
People want to listen to someone who is interesting, relaxed and comfortable. Too often, when you stand up to give a speech, you focus on the “public” at the expense of the “speaking.” 2 Focus on the speaking. Talk directly to your audience, be yourself and make a connection.
Even the most successful public speaker will make mistakes. Yet, the only one who cares about any mistake is the one who is speaking. People's attention wanders constantly. In fact, most people only absorb about 20 percent of a speaker's message. So, don't stop speaking when you make a mistake unless it's a truly serious one. 3
Your goal is not to be a perfect public speaker. 4 And like everything else in life, that takes practice. Remember, even world champion athletes practice their skills on a consistent basis.
5 It's rare to hear someone say,“I wish that speaker had spoken longer.” On the other hand, you probably can't count the times that you've thought,“I'm glad that talk is over. It seemed to go on forever!” So surprise your audience. Always make your presentation just a bit shorter than anticipated. It's better to leave your listeners wishing for more than shifting restlessly in their seats waiting for your speech finally to end.
    A.Do the opposite.
B.You want to be an effective public speaker.
C.You don't need to apologize for a minor slip.
D.When it comes to public speaking, less is usually more.
E.The objective of most speeches is to benefit the audience.
F.Take the fear out of public speaking by focusing on your listeners.
G.However, the majority of people are effective speakers because they train to be.

    Talking with your doctor
Talking freely with your doctor can make you feel better and gives your doctor the information she or he needs to give you the best care. Don't be afraid or embarrassed to discuss something that is bothering you. 1
    ●Stay positive.
Go to your doctor's visits with a good attitude. 2 Think teamwork! Think positive!
●Keep track of how you are feeling.
3 This will make it easier for you to answer questions about your symptoms(症状)and how medicines make you feel. It also makes it easier for you to bring up anything that you are worried about. Make sure to be honest about how you feel and how long you've felt that way.
    ● 4
Your medical history is a list of your illnesses, treatments, what the doctors told you to do, and anything else you think your doctor should know. Also, if you are allergic(过敏)to any medicines, be sure to mention that to your doctor.
    ●Ask questions.
Do not be afraid to ask your doctor any questions you have. To remember all the questions you have when you are not in the doctor's office, write them down and bring the list with you to your appointment. 5 Remember—there's no such thing as a stupid question. If you don't understand the answer to a question, ask the doctor to explain it again until you do understand.
A.This will make getting answers easier.
B.Here are some tips for talking with your doctor.
C.You can talk to another doctor if the treatments don't work.
D.Before your doctor's visit, keep notes on how you are feeling.
E.Remember, your doctor and other caregivers are on your side.
F.Bring your medical history, including a list of your current medicines.
G.Writing down what the doctor says will help you remember important information.

Important Things to Know When Dining Out
Cultural dining etiquette(礼节) might surprise you with some of its important rules. 1 . Knowing some tips will help ensure that you have an enjoyable meal with friends or family—no matter where you are in the world.
    Chopstick Rules
The way you handle chopsticks is important to avoid annoying your companions. When you put them down between bites, always put them down together so they are parallel with the edge of the table in front of you. 2 .
    Hands or Utensils(餐具)
In India and the Middle East, it's considered very rude to eat with your left hand. People in France expect you to eat with a utensil in each hand. 3 , instead preferring to use their hands. In Chile, you may never touch any food with your fingers. People in Thailand generally use their forks only to push food onto their spoons.
    Making Requests
4 . In Portugal, this would be a serious mistake, because it shows the chef that you don't like their seasoning skills. Similarly, in Italy, never ask for extra cheese to add to your food.
Some of these cultural dining etiquette rules may seem random and strange, but they are important in various countries. 5 , the more comfortable you'll begin to feel with its foreign cultural practices.
A.The more friends you make in your lifetime
B.The more time you spend in any given country
C.Mexicans consider it inappropriate to eat with utensils
D.Don't get caught making an embarrassing mistake at a restaurant
E.It's a good sign for the chef if you make a mess around your plate
F.Never stick them upright in your food or cross them as you use them
G.It may seem like a simple request to ask for salt and pepper at a meal

    Passage 2 (2022全国乙)话题:人际关系
Friendship needs care and attention to keep it in good health. Here are five ways to sustain(保持) long⁃distance friendships.
    ·Set a regular date
Long⁃lasting friendships share the characteristic that both sides equally contact(联系) and share with one another. With busy schedules, squeezing in phone calls can be a challenge. 1 .
    ·More isn't always merrier
Make sure you have communicated with your friend about how frequently each of you wants to be contacted and what method works best for you both. 2 . There are alternatives to constant written communication, such as leaving voice messages or having a group chat.
    ·Practise empathy(共情)
3 . The friend who is remaining needs to be sensitive to all the additional time demands placed on the friend who has moved. The one in the new environment should be sympathetic to the fact that your friend may feel abandoned.
    · 4
Anniversaries and birthdays carry even more weight in long⁃distance friendships. Although technology might make day⁃to⁃day communication possible, extra effort goes a long way on special days. Simply keeping a diary that keeps track of friends' birthdays and other important dates will make sure nothing slips by you.
    ·Don't rely on technology alone
5 , but long⁃distance friendships—even close ones—may require more conscious effort to sustain. Try to seek out chances to renew friendships. How to do it? Just spend face⁃to⁃face time together whenever possible.
    A.Remember important dates
    B.Compensate by writing letters
C.It is also helpful for you to be a friendship keeper
D.Try to find a time that works for both of you and stick to it
E.Friends need to talk about their preferred methods of communication
F.It is easy to have a sense of connectedness through social media
G.You may be the friend who left or the one who was left behind

    Passage 3 (2022浙江6月)话题:个人生活
I have a drawer full of letters to Santa. Each year my children would write up their Christmas wish lists. They were polite requests for the latest game or toy. As the children got older, they would give Santa some hints(提示) on where to buy their presents. 1
Those letters taught my children a valuable lesson about writing: It has a purpose. Sometimes our purpose is to achieve something; other times it may be to entertain, inform, or persuade. 2 And when writing doesn't seem to have any purpose or get any kind of meaningful response, then it can be hard to get excited about doing it.
Christmas is a great time of year for children to communicate with others through writing. When children write for real audiences and real purposes, they can learn to choose their words accordingly. 3 You write “Dear Santa” because you don't know him personally and you want to show him respect.
4 Texting, online messaging, live chats while playing video games all mean that they are constantly producing written messages. However, because they are usually writing to family and friends, they use informal language most of the time.
There is nothing wrong with this kind of writing. It suits the audience and the purpose and gets the job done. 5 This type of writing won't be rewarded by the school examiner, nor by a future employer or a potential client. The very best communicators are those who know how to adjust their language to match their audience.
A.It isn't that these young people can't write.
B.But it is always purposeful—or at least it should be.
C.The age of pen⁃and⁃paper letter writing may have passed.
D.As a result, each year they received something they wanted.
E.You write “Hi Nanna and Pop” because you are close to them.
F.As technology develops, young people are writing more than they ever have.
G.But if this is the only kind of writing young people do, it will cause problems.

    Passage 4 (2021全国甲)话题:环境保护
    Swap, Don't Shop!
You keep hearing about recycling, right? But it doesn't end with bottles, cans, and paper. Clothing takes a huge amount of natural resources(资源)to make, and buying loads of new clothing(or throwing out old clothing)is not healthy for the environment. So what to do with all those perfectly⁃good⁃but⁃you're⁃maybe⁃a⁃little⁃sick⁃of⁃them clothes piled on your bedroom floor? 1 . It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.
A successful swap depends on the selection of clothes, the organization of the event, and, obviously, how much fun is had. It's really easy to do!Here are a few pointers.
●Invite 5-10 people so you have a nice selection. 2 , and there may not be enough things to choose from;more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.
    ● 3 . They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their “new” clothes home.
●Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room. 4 . Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on. One of the ground rules of the swap should be that everyone must try on the clothes before they take them—things always look different when you put them on.
●Set a starting time. Maybe you say “go,” or turn on a certain song, or whatever. 5 . And don't forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it's a party!
    A.Less people than that
    B.Hold a clothing swap
    C.If two people are competing
    D.Just keep music playing throughout
E.Donate whatever clothes are left over
F.Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots
G.Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition

    Passage 5 (2021全国乙)话题:社会交往
According to Jessica Hagy, author of How to Be Interesting, it's not difficult to make yourself interesting at a dinner party.
1 , if you're out of your comfort zone or if you're wandering into somebody's house for the first time. So the main thing is just to show up and be adventurous, trying different foods and talking to strangers.
People love to talk about themselves. If you can start the conversation with a question other than “What do you do for a living?”, you'll be able to get a lot more interesting conversation out of whomever it is you're talking to. 2 , it can bring in “I have this old, broken⁃down vehicle”or “I rode the bus with these crazy people who were laughing at silly jokes in the back.”It just opens up conversation.
3 ? If you can't take their wine away, you should certainly try to take away their soapbox(讲台). If you're the host, you can ask them to help you in the kitchen with something and just remove them from the situation. 4 .
And what about that other dinner⁃party killer: awkward silence? If you're faced with an awkward silence at a dinner party, the only thing that always gets everyone talking again is to give the host a compliment(赞扬). 5 . Just quickly turn around and say,“This cake is extremely delicious and you have to tell me all about it.”
So being interesting at a dinner party isn't that hard.

    You've got mail...and it's a postcard
Paulo Magalhaes, a 34⁃year⁃old Portuguese computer engineer, loves to open his mailbox and find a brightly colored picture of Rome's Colosseum. Or Africa's Victoria Falls. Or China's Great Wall. 1
“I often send postcards to family and friends,”he says to China Daily, “but you can imagine that after a while, you never receive as many as you send, and you realize that not everyone is into it. 2 ”Seeking other like⁃minded souls, however, Paulo started looking in a somewhat unlikely place:online. Many would say the Internet is a place for people who have given up on the traditional postal service, but Paulo's hunch(直觉)paid off.
Today his hobby has developed into the website postcrossing. com, a social network that has grown to 575,217 registered users in 214 countries and regions since he started it 10 years ago. 3 Running the website has almost turned into a full⁃time job.
Language is certainly a barrier for many people. For postcrossing to work worldwide, a common communication language is needed so that everyone can understand each other. As cool as it may be to receive a postcard written in Chinese, the concept doesn't work if one doesn't understand it. 4 So a common language is required and in postcrossing that's English since it's widely spoken.
“Many people in China have limited exposure to English. 5 That said, we know of many postcrossing members, including Chinese, who have actually improved their English skills through their use of postcrossing,”Paulo says.
    A.And that's totally fine.
B.That makes it extra hard to learn and practice it.
C.He likes to think of sending postcards as a family⁃friendly hobby.
D.Many love to make a connection with someone from across the world.
E.On August 5, the number of postcards exchanged by members topped 31 million.
F.Similarly, if you speak only Chinese, receiving a card in Swedish takes part of the fun away.
G.In short, he loves postcards, and the excitement of getting a hand⁃written note from someone far away.

    A Few Tips for Self⁃Acceptance
We all want it...to accept and love ourselves. But at times it seems too difficult and too far out of reach. 1 Here's a handful of ways that will set you in the right direction.
    ● 2 Do not follow the people who make you feel not⁃good⁃enough. Why do you follow them? Are you hoping that eventually you will feel empowered because your life is better than theirs? Know that your life is your own; you are the only you in this world.
●Forgive yourself for mistakes that you have made. We are often ashamed of our shortcomings, our mistakes and our failures. 3 You will make mistakes, time and time again. Rather than getting caught up in how you could have done better, why not offer yourself a compassionate(有同情心的) response? “That didn't go as planned. But, I tried my best.”
●Recognize all of your strengths. Write them down in a journal. Begin to train your brain to look at strength before weakness. List all of your accomplishments and achievements. You have a job, earned your degree, and you got out of bed today. 4
●Now that you've listed your strengths, list your imperfections. Turn the page in your journal. Put into words why you feel unworthy, why you don't feel good enough. Now, read these words back to yourself. 5 Turn to a page in your journal to your list of strengths and achievements. See how awesome you are?
    A.Feeling upset again?
    B.Where do you start?
C.Nothing is too small to celebrate.
    D.Remember, you are only human.
    E.Set an intention for self⁃acceptance.

A housewarming party is a special party to be held when someone buys or moves into a new apartment or house. The person who bought the house or moved is the one who throws the party. The party is a chance for friends and family to congratulate the person on the new home. 1 And it is a good time to fill the new space with love and hopefully presents.
2 Some people register a list of things they want or need for their new home at a local store or stores. Some common things people will put on a gift registry include kitchen tools like knives and things like curtains. Even if there isn't a registry, a good housewarming gift is something to decorate the new house with, like a piece of art or a plant.
3 This is often appreciated since at a housewarming there isn't a lot of food served. There are usually no planned activities like games at a housewarming party. The host or hostess of the party will, however, probably give all the guests a tour of their new home. Sometimes, because a housewarming party happens shortly after a person moves into their new home, people may be asked to help unpack boxes. 4
Housewarming parties get their name from the fact that a long time ago people would actually bring firewood to a new home as a gift. 5 Now most homes have central heating and don't use fires to keep warm.
    A.This isn't usual though.
B.It is traditional to bring a gift to a housewarming party.
C.You can also bring food or drinks to share with the other guests.
D.If you're lucky enough to receive gifts, keep them in a safe place.
E.It also gives people a chance to see what the new home looks like.

I experienced years of loneliness as a child. 1 His friends teased him about babysitting his sister and his interests were far different from mine. With no other kids of my age in the neighborhood, I had to spend hours by myself.
A bright spot for me turned out to be reading. My love of the written word began early as my mother read to me every evening. 2 I started reading books on my own before age 5 and my mother took me to the public library once a week to borrow several books. I quickly graduated from typical children's books to ones with fewer pictures and longer chapters. Reading opened new worlds to me. 3
My mother also encouraged me to make what I wanted. I tried making toy cars with cardboard boxes and constructing buildings from leftover cardboard and bits of wood my father gave me. When my mother saw my creations, she told me how creative my designs were. 4 I learned a lot about how to extend the life of objects and transform them into something new and useful. It was a trait(特点) others found helpful, and I soon had friends who wanted to make things with me.
5 My parents made it a point for their two kids to spend time outside, no matter the weather or season. My brother, of course, raced off to be with his friends, while I had plenty to do myself. There was making leaf houses in autumn, ice skating in winter, and so much more. They're all memories I treasure today.
    A.I wasn't alone any longer.
    B.I enjoyed reading stories aloud.
C.I was invited to play with another kid.
D.I loved the colorful photographs in the books.
E.Another habit I formed early was being outdoors.

Is Fresh Air Really Good for You?
We all grew up hearing people tell us to “go out and get some fresh air.” 1 According to recent studies, the answer is a big YES, if the air quality in your camping area is good.
2 If the air you're breathing is clean—which it would be if you're away from the smog of cities—then the air is filled with life⁃giving, energizing oxygen. If you exercise out of doors, your body will learn to breathe more deeply, allowing even more oxygen to get to your muscles(肌肉)and your brain.
Recently, people have begun studying the connection between the natural world and healing(治愈). 3 In these places patients can go to be near nature during their recovery. It turns out that just looking at green, growing things can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and put people into a better mood(情绪).Greenery is good for us. Hospital patients who see tree branches out their window are likely to recover at a faster rate than patients who see buildings or sky instead. 4 It gives us a great feeling of peace.
5 While the sun's rays can age and harm our skin, they also give us beneficial vitamin D. To make sure you get enough vitamin D—but still protect your skin—put on sunscreen right as you head outside. It takes sunscreen about fifteen minutes to start working, and that's plenty of time for your skin to absorb a day's worth of vitamin D.
    A.Fresh air cleans our lungs.
B.So what are you waiting for?
    C.Being in nature refreshes us.
D.Another side benefit of getting fresh air is sunlight.
E.But is fresh air really as good for you as your mother always said?

Imagine a child standing on a diving board four feet high and asking himself the question:“Should I jump?”This is what motivation or the lack of it can do. Motivation and goal setting are the two sides of the same coin. 1 Like the child on the diving board, you will stay undecided.
2 More than that, how should you stay motivated to achieve the goal? First, you need to evaluate yourself, your values, your strengths, your weaknesses, your achievements, your desires, etc. Only then should you set your goals.
You also need to judge the quality and depth of your motivation. This is quite important, because it is directly related to your commitment. There are times when your heart is not in your work. 3 So, slow down and think what you really want to do at that moment. Clarity (清晰) of thoughts can help you move forward.
Another way of setting realistic goals is to analyze your short and long term objectives, keeping in mind your beliefs, values and strengths. Remember that goals are flexible. 4 They also need to be measurable. You must keep these points in mind while setting your goals.
Your personal circumstances are equally important. For example, you may want to be a pilot but can't become one because your eyesight is not good enough. 5 You should reassess your goals, and motivate yourself to set a fresh goal.
You will surely need to overcome some difficulties, some planned, but most unplanned. You cannot overcome them without ample motivation. Make sure that you plan for these difficulties at the time of setting your goals.
    A.This can affect your work.
B.So how should you motivate yourself?
C.However, this should not discourage you.
D.So why should we try to set specific goals?
E.They can change according to circumstances.
F.Motivation is what you need most to do a good job.
G.Without motivation, you can neither set a goal nor reach it.

In an online class, developing healthy patterns of communication with professors is very important. 1 While I have only listed two of each, there are obviously many other situations that can arise. Students should be able to extend the logic(逻辑) of each to their particular circumstance.
    Do's
    ● 2 Questions about subject content are generally welcomed. Before asking questions about the course design, read the syllabus(教学大纲) and learning management system information to be sure the answer isn't hiding in plain sight.
●Participate in discussion forums(论坛), blogs and other open⁃ended forums for dialogue. 3 Be sure to stay on topic and not offer irrelevant information. Make a point, and make it safe for others to do the same.
    Don'ts
●Don't share personal information or stories. Professors are not trained nurses, financial aid experts or your best friends. If you are in need of a deadline extension, simply explain the situation to the professor. 4
●Don't openly express annoyance at a professor or class. 5 When a student attacks a professor on the social media, the language used actually says more about the student. If there is truly a concern about a professor's professionalism or ability, be sure to use online course evaluations to calmly offer your comments.
    A.That's what they are for.
B.Turn to an online instructor for help.
C.If more information is needed, they will ask.
D.Remember that online professors get a lot of emails.

Rock music consists of many different styles. Even though there is a common spirit among all music groups, they make very different music. 1 At that time the Beatles entered the world of music from Liverpool.
After they were given an invitation to appear live on BBC, the Beatles quickly became famous in Britain with nationwide tours. By mid⁃1963, the Beatles had been extremely popular in England. 2 They held large concerts and performed at clubs. They became the hottest thing on the pop music scene in England. They began as a modestly successful musician group and ended the year as show business legends(传说). John Lennon and Paul McCartney were named composers of the year.
3 They were not sure how the Americans would react to the new type of music. Beatlemania hit New York on February 7, 1964. Hundreds of fans jammed the airport to greet them. 4 The concert was broadcast live and attracted the largest one night audience in the history of television up to that time. The Beatles were described as a British invasion(入侵) by local and nationwide newspapers at that time. Their victory in America was still remembered as a major turning point in the history of rock and roll. Thanks to the Beatles, a lot of opportunities were opened up to new faces on the market. 5
A.They decided on a tour to the United States in 1964.
B.Even their hairstyles became major trends at that time.

Color is fundamental in home design—something you'll always have in every room. A grasp of how to manage color in your spaces is one of the first steps to creating rooms you'll love to live in. Do you want a room that's full of life?Professional?Or are you just looking for a place to relax after a long day? 1 , color is the key to making a room feel the way you want it to feel.
Over the years, there have been a number of different techniques to help designers approach this important point. 2 , they can get a little complex. But good news is that there're really only three kinds of decisions you need to make about color in your home:the small ones, the medium ones, and the large ones.
3 . They're the little spots of color like throw pillows, mirrors and baskets that most of us use to add visual interest to our rooms. Less tiring than painting your walls and less expensive than buying a colorful sofa, small color choices bring with them the significant benefit of being easily changeable.
Medium color choices are generally furniture pieces such as sofas, dinner tables or bookshelves. 4 . They require a bigger commitment than smaller ones, and they have a more powerful effect on the feeling of a space.
The large color decisions in your rooms concern the walls, ceilings, and floors. Whether you're looking at wallpaper or paint, the time, effort and relative expense put into it are significant. 5 .

Perhaps one of the most important things you can do as a good neighbor is to keep your property(房产) neat, clean, and in good repair. 2 By choosing to keep the outside of the home in great shape, you will help to improve the look and feel of the area.

Do you suffer from low energy? Is it difficult to get out of bed in the morning? Do your head and stomach ache? If so, you could be experiencing job burnout. 1 —77% of workers surveyed by Deloitte said they had experienced burnout. And 90% of those said that stress had negatively impacted their work.
Burnout is dangerous. It can lead to mental and physical exhaustion, a loss of identity and feeling a lack of accomplishment. They harm the body over time. Do you want to get out of this state? 2 .
One way you can help relieve burnout is by practicing communication. Be clear about what you're feeling, and if you are being overworked, discuss it with your supervisor or coworkers. 3 . Taking time off is also a good idea.

Your options for an ego⁃friendly home may seem somewhat limited now—solar panels, rain barrels, and maybe a small garden—but as the world of green technology advances, there is a rise in the number of smart, ego⁃friendly home improvements. Some of them are available now. 1 . Read on to see how you can improve your home now.
A home thermostat (恒温器) can automatically adjust the temperature for you, making sure your house is warm when you get home and reducing a waste of energy during the day. For example, a thermostat called Nest Learning Thermostat learns your heating and cooling preference and automatically adjusts itself. 2 , without ever having to remember to adjust the temperature.
Years ago, recycling paper and plastic was the most you could do to save resources. 3 , recycling everything from Christmas lights to wine corks (瓶塞). And where do the post⁃recycling materials end up? Back in your home, in the form of recycled paper countertops (工作台面) and recycled plastic carpets, to name but a few.
4 . But if you're ready to take your heating, cooling and electricity system into the future, then you'll want to start with alternative new energy sources, like solar panels or wind power. Solar panels are additions you can make to your own house, but if you don't have the time or money, you can also choose alternative energy sources through your regular supplier.
In 2009, The Wall Street Journal asked four architectural firms to imagine the future of green homes. 5 . They designed what they call the “Incredible Edible House”, covered in green in the form of plants and gardens that provide food for the home owners, absorb heat to keep the interior cool, and are watered from a rooftop that catches rain.

    Passage 3 (2023届河北石家庄二中实验学校9月开学考试)话题:个人生活
An interview is a discussion with someone in which you try to get information from them. 1 There are three basic subtypes of interviews: structured interviews, unstructured interviews and semi⁃structured interviews. 2 Incidentally, “respondent” and “informant” are words that are sometimes used instead of “interviewee”.
A great deal is provided by this personal contact: you are another human being, and interviewees will respond to you, in bodily presence, in an entirely different way from the way that they would have reacted to questionnaires that came through their letterboxes or to emails. 3 Most people want to help and give their opinions, and they will usually be energized to help by your physical presence.
If you take the trouble to schedule a visit, you can be more or less guaranteed of a response. Most importantly, though, you will be able to relate to interviewees while you are talking to them. 4 You will be able to watch their behaviour which will give you important clues about how they feel about a topic. Because of the primacy of the personal contact, your appearance and tone are important—how do you want to be seen? As “one of us”? As a person in authority? As an observer?...Or what? 5 However you decide to present yourself, it is good practice of course to try to put the interviewee at ease before the interview begins—to talk about the weather, about your journey, about anything that will break the ice.
    A.This is a ready⁃made support for you.
B.Its nature varies with the nature of the interviews.
C.You will be able to hear and understand what they are saying.
D.Your decision should influence the way that you look, sound and behave.
E.The information may be facts or opinions or attitudes or any combination of these.
F.Each involves the interviewer in face⁃to⁃face contact or telephone contact with another person.
G.You will be using these clues to make informed guesses about what the interviewees might really mean.

From the dawn of civilization, paper records have been a method of keeping track of important and necessary documentation. A common experience throughout the world's record keeping has been the necessity to ensure that all documents are kept together, and none are lost.
1 These included tying ribbons through the paper, and melting wax to secure the papers in place. For nearly 600 years, these were the methods used to secure papers.
2 In 1835, a machine that could mass⁃produce straight pins (大头针) was invented by Elias Howe Jr, an American inventor. Although straight pins were originally designed for sewing, people began using them as a quick and easy way to secure papers. 3 In 1899 he patented the device, which consisted of a wire bent into a particularly shaped hoop for the purpose of securing papers.
During this time, however, the paper clip (回形针) was not a widely distributed device. Therefore, the Gem Manufacturing Company of England developed a machine to manufacture and standardize the paper clip design. 4
Today the paper clip is a famous invention used throughout offices, schoolrooms, and business throughout the world. 5
A.The next paper invention was that of the straight pin.
B.Before the paper clip, people had to be creative to keep paper together.
C.The humble item only came into popular usage around the mid⁃19th century.
D.This manufacturing development allowed the expansion of the modern paper clip worldwide.
E.Later, inspired by the straight pin, Norwegian Johan Vaaler came up with the idea of the first paper clip.
F.Therefore, from the early 13th century people had created various methods to ensure documents were kept together.
G.Being a wonder of simplicity and function, the paper clip remains standard office supplies throughout the world.

How to Make a Cooking Video on TikTok
You may think sharing your cooking videos on TikTok isn't a big deal. 1 We've asked some experts for tips on how to film, edit and post cooking videos on TikTok.
    Keep it simple
“Simplicity is key when creating food content on TikTok,” says MacKenzie Smith, the creator of Grilled Cheese Social. 2 “My Baked Feta Pasta that went viral (走红) earlier this year is a good example of how simple food trends can take over the social landscape,” says Smith.
    Show off cooking skills
3 Film something special or share a helpful tip some viewers may not know. Smith, who's partnering the National Mango Board, says she's been starting all her videos for the campaign with a demonstration of the best mango cutting technique.
    Film from different angles
If you have two smartphones or cameras, try setting them up on tripods (三脚架) at different angles, so you can edit with a diversity of different shots, both overhead and from another good point. Only have one device? No worries. 4
    Break the rules
Just like cooking, the rules of TikTok are meant to be broken. So if you want your viewers to keep coming back to your videos, never be afraid of trying creative ideas. 5 Make what you want to make. Who knows what will become a trend, and what was a waste of your time?
A.Actually, it isn't as easy as you think.
B.Keep your videos between 30 and 60 seconds.
C.Consider filming your content in natural lighting.
D.Film various parts of your cooking from a few perspectives.
E.That's because the golden rule of social media is to be creative.

Tea is currently the world's most popular drink, only after water. However, there was a time when tea was known only to the Chinese. 1 ? And how did it get to conquer the world to the extent that people often describe something they really like as their “cup of tea?”
While we know that tea drink started in China, its true origin remains something of a mystery. Legend has it that about 5,000 years ago,Shennong came across tea when dried leaves blew into a pot of boiling water. Following his discovery, tea was used as medicine, included in meals and later offered as a refreshing drink to officials and noblemen. 2 .
3 over the years, as tea drinking became an important part of China's rich culture. The great Tang poet Du Fu described his tea⁃drinking experience in poetic language. Lu Yu, a tea master, wrote The Classic of Tea, which remains the earliest and most famous detailed study on tea in the world.
It is then not surprising that the beauty of tea was eventually revealed to a wider world. 4 . Porters carrying back⁃breaking loads of tea bricks made their way through dangerous snow⁃covered mountain passes, to trade Sichuan and Yunnan tea for horses. 5 . As early as the Tang Dynasty, Japanese monks came to study in China and took with them tea seeds and tea⁃making customs when returning to Japan. Around the 1600s, tea was shipped to Europe from China by Portuguese and Dutch sea traders.
A.So, how did tea originate in China
B.But how was tea introduced overseas
C.Tea became the main theme in ancient poems
D.The love of tea inspired many people to write about it
E.Over time, the gift of tea was further delivered to Western Asia and Eastern Africa

After the destructive winter, the chances are that your lawn will be looking as messy as a lockdown hairstyle. 1
At the time, weeds will have undoubtedly moved into your beloved lawn. 2 There are plenty of weeding tools on the market, but we find that one of the best is a standard table knife. Be careful to remove as much of the root as possible. Some weeds can grow back from the smallest of pieces.
Moss will also most likely be growing in the damp areas of your garden. So grab a lawn rake (耙子) and pull the rake hard across any moss⁃infected areas. It's a job you should have done back in October really. 3
For your first cut of the year, make sure you raise the cutting head on your lawnmower to its highest setting. Cutting your grass too close at this stage will weaken its roots and may lead to weedy problems later the year. 4 Little and often tends to be the best policy for healthy grass.
5 You can use the technique known as “overseeding,” where grass seed is sown directly onto a lawn in spring or autumn. First off, choose the grass seed to match your existing lawn. Then sow your chosen grass seed, using the back of your seed packet to guide you on the amount needed per square meter. After that, water your lawn using a can with a fine rose and keep off the area for a couple of weeks.
    A.Remove any unwanted stuff.
B.Spring is the time to take action.
C.Now comes the job of thickening the lawn.
D.So your first lawn job should be to get rid of them.
E.But there will be no harm in giving your lawn a once⁃over in spring.

    Passage 8 (2022山东烟台、德州一模)话题:音乐概况
Adele's new album, 30, is finally available. Last month, hundreds of millions of us streamed its first single Easy on Me. This song arouses feelings not easily put into words, but we can probably agree it is a sad song. 1 Yet sad music does pull us in and lift us up.
2 When we experience real⁃life loss, or empathize (体会) with another's pain, certain hormones are released within us. These help us to tackle loss and pain. They do so by making us feel calmed and supported. Feeling Adele's pain, or recalling our own, may cause such chemical changes within us.
Psychologically, a key reason we enjoy sad songs is that they profoundly move us. Feeling moved can come from us suddenly feeling closer to other people. Indeed, when we have listened to 30, we may turn to reaction videos to see how others feel. 3 And it boosts our feeling of being moved and triggers feelings of comfort and belonging.
We can also think at the spiritual level. Adele's songs allow us to view the pleasure in terms of the meaning she helps us make. Adele takes hard life experiences and makes sense of them. 4 It takes the pain and suffering of the world and gives it meaning. As philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once put it, he who has a “why” to live for can bear almost any “how”.
Ultimately, we listen to Adele's songs when we want to recall, reflect, or belong. They let us feel her sadness, share our suffering, and connect with others. To all of us, Adele's songs say: 5
A.You are not alone in your pain.
B.Music is the source of sadness.
C.This is what much sad music does.
D.Let's start with a biological theory.

Jennifer Williams is a teacher from Virginia who loves reading. 1 So she decided to give away 1 million books to people in her small town. By doing so, she's earned a nickname “book lady”.
Since Williams started this activity in 2017, she's given away more than 63,000 books, mostly to students. Williams had this idea after she noticed that the students she taught would ask her to keep the books they were reading together. And they would ask her to read more books to them. So, one summer, she made a goal to give away 300 books to the school where she has worked. 2
But even after she met her goal, she didn't stop here. Williams started collecting donations and buying books out of her own pocket. Every year, she gives a book to each student at her local primary school. 3 Standing across the street are 16 tiny libraries that Williams has kept. She also leaves books on picnic tables, but she doesn't usually leave a note.
4 Williams said her community has united to help her achieve her goal. She often returns home with boxes of donated books. Williams said that of the 63,000 books she's given away, 99% first sat on her living room floor.
As for Williams, she said she didn't plan to slow down anytime soon. 5 “There are still lots of people who don't have books to read. I'm just trying to do something to help them,” she said.
A.Her community is very supportive, too.
B.Her goal is to keep doing what she is doing now.
C.She also gives books to other people in other ways.
D.Williams also teaches creative writing at a book club.
E.She asked people she knew if they'd like to donate to children.

Five years ago, my husband and I bought a former farm. It's a short ride from our Vancouver home but a world away. As we restore the land, I feel my well⁃being returning, but I think the farm is also working its magic on our son's growing resilience (适应能力). Since Dev was 20, he has lived with mental illness. We have been on this journey with him from crisis to recovery. 1 We found the farm.
It has taken a couple of years to clear the land, seed the lawn and build garden beds. But we did it even as other parts of our life had come undone. The farm was holding our family together. We come over on weekends and holidays and have been planting. 2
Before he went to treatment, we planted a “guild”(共位群) in the old apple farm. 3 We dug around the weaker trees and placed in garlic, wildflowers and bonemeal. It keeps the moisture (水分) and nutrients in, and the garden seems to thrive (茁壮成长) as a result.
4 The land needed clearing, and Doug, our workman, worked steadily and helped whenever I asked. Asking for help is a principle in the recovery community, a lesson my son is learning. It truly does take a village to restore a farm and rebuild a life.
The desire to recover this land has grown in me. 5 He's found his own kind of “guild” that supports him. Owning a farm was never our plan but it came when our family needed a meaningful project. When my hands are in the dirt, I remember that intervention (干预) is necessary and so is allowing nature to take its course. Digging is an act of faith, hope and anticipation of what will appear next.
A.We helped ourselves by helping others.
B.We also learned how to depend on others.
C.My son had great difficulty making a recovery.
D.I have seen this drive toward restoration in my son as well.
E.Just when it couldn't get any worse, an unexpected light occurred.

    Earning an MBA Abroad
Anyone who hopes to lead a Fortune 500 firm someday should realize that a high⁃profile leadership role will probably require extensive travel and teamwork with colleagues from all over the world. Any ambitious businessperson may wish to consider attending a business school (B⁃school) where he or she is neither a citizen nor a permanent resident. When deciding whether to go to a business graduate program in a foreign country, do a cost⁃benefit analysis. 1
    Selling Points and Disadvantages
Earning an MBA or another type of graduate business degree in a foreign country bears valuable advantages. One big advantage is that you will be able to learn about new cultures. 2 It also allows you to experience different working styles and how certain companies operate, which can be beneficial for future employers who want employees with global experience.
3 International flights to and from a foreign school may be expensive. You may find it harder than you expected to get visas (签证) or work permits for your schooling abroad, which means you might have to leave the country abruptly when you graduate. You may also be concerned about cultural differences in learning styles, study habits, and academic strictness.
    Other Factors to Consider
When comparing MBA programs in different countries, keep several regional distinctions in mind. The standard in some countries is for MBA degrees to be completed within a single year. 4 The price of B⁃school in some areas tends to be more expensive and starting salaries among recent MBA graduates tend to be especially high within certain countries.
No matter where in the world you'd prefer to pursue an MBA, it's wise to investigate your target B⁃school's course offerings to assess whether the lessons taught at that school seem interesting and relevant to you. 5 In other words, think over the location where you intend to spend the majority of your career.
A.This will help in future work opportunities.
B.Another consideration is your final destination.
C.In other places the typical time is two years.
D.Admission odds may vary depending on the location of the programs.
E.Unfortunately, there are some downsides to pursuing an MBA overseas.

       Writing Well: Using Textual Evidence
When it's time to write a research paper, having trusted sources and a convincing argument is only half the battle. 1 You need to learn how to work with textual evidence. It is the information from the sources you research. Learning how to properly use textual evidence helps you smoothly include ideas from your sources. It will also help you give credit to the authors of your sources and avoid plagiarism(剽窃).
2 Summary is used when you explain an idea from a source in a shorter, less detailed way. Paraphrasing is used when you explain an idea from a source in your own words. It should be used when you need to include facts or details to support your argument. 3 Quotations are used when you include the exact words from the source. You put the words in quotation marks. Most of the textual evidence you use in your paper should be summary and paraphrasing. You should use direct quotations the least of all.
It is important to include textual evidence in a way that flows well. Signal phrases are a common way of doing this. Signal phrases include words such as “say” or “state.” 4 Using a variety of signal phrases will keep your paper more interesting.
In addition, you should provide your own analysis of the source including why the information is relevant to your topic and how the material supports your main idea. Carefully differentiate your own ideas from the source material. 5 Be clear about which information comes from you and which one comes from another source.
A.They suggest the idea belongs to someone else.
B.So,what is the other key part of writing a research paper?
C.There are three ways to include textual evidence in your paper.
D.However, it's not necessary to include the author's exact words.

Research shows that we spend one⁃third to one⁃half of our waking life not living in the present. 1 Our brains transport us to past events, imagined future scenes and other internal thoughts.
This allows for introspection—the space to imagine, remember, reflect and then use these fantasies to solve problems, innovate and create. But introspection can sometimes lead to more harm than good. 2 When we focus inward to work through our problems, we may find that doing so causes us to feel worse. Negative thought cycles like this can make our capacity for introspection feel more like a curse than a blessing.
The fact that introspection is both a helpful tool and destructive force is a great contradiction of the human mind. Fortunately, science has begun to explain why this happens, and how to control it.
3 This fires up our emotions to the degree of rejecting alternative ways of thinking about the issue that might cool us down. In other words, we lose insight. One natural solution to this problem is to zoom out—to “step back” from your problems so you can think about them more objectively. 4 However, not just any conversation will do. The key is to focus on talking to people who not only allow you to express your emotions but also help broaden your horizons.
Introspection is central to the makeup of the human mind. The challenge is to minimize the negative aspects while achieving its potential. 5
A.But it can be wonderful to live in the past.
B.We naturally separate from the here and now.
C.It might contribute to anxiety and depression.

How to Respond When Someone Judges You
Dealing with judgment from other people can be tough, especially when it's coming from a friend, family member, or colleague. Judgmental people are unavoidable, but you can easily deal with their criticism using positivity and compassion.
Rid yourself of the judgment. Remember that a judgmental person's words are a reflection of their own beliefs—not yours. Critical people criticize themselves more than anyone else. 1 .
Be sympathetic. Practice sympathy to understand the source of this person's judgment. It could be that they were judged by parents, family, or friends, in which case this person's critical attitude would be something they learned(and not necessarily intentional). While that doesn't excuse their behavior, having sympathy can inform your response. Say things like “ 2 ” or “I see where you're coming from, but...” when you respond to someone's judgment.
Ask for clarification. 3 . Ask this person to explain what they said, and find out their motivation for saying it. You could ask then, “What are you trying to say? If you have constructive criticism, I'm open to hearing it.” That way, you're giving the other person a gentle reminder to phrase their words constructively.
4 . Be polite but firm. If somebody crosses a line and makes you feel criticized, tell them how you feel. If someone is giving you criticism you didn't ask for, you could say, “ 5 , and I have a plan that works for me.”
    A.Stop talking like this
    B.Set boundaries in the conversation
C.I understand why you feel that way
D.I feel like I need to deal with this in my way
E.I know you want to talk but this is a sensitive subject for me

5G mobile technology has officially begun rolling out across the globe, which indicates a dynamic acceleration (加速) in our world of connectivity. It promotes operational cooperation tourism that hasn't experienced before. 1 This is perceived from both the way the industry operates and the side of the traveler.
2 It's expected to offer organizations a wireless network that transforms the way people and machines use data. Unlike previous network generations, 5G is now being seen as not just a consumer platform, but a primary communications platform that can also provide cloud connectivity and edge processing that can offer real⁃time business insights and automated responses, and eventually integrate the billions of Internet of Things devices and data that are available.
As travel companies have transformed their operations with new digital systems, their focus has moved from the technology itself to the improved business outcomes and enhanced guest and passenger experiences driven by the technology. 3 With advanced connectivity speeds and low latency(延时), guests can share their personal data to receive custom recommendations from travel companies in real time that should provide meaningful experiences. 4 For example, guests can involve themselves in viewing rooms and hotel facilities, or preview local attractions as they plan their trips.
To prepare to roll out this new technology, travel companies should ensure they have a thorough understanding of their guests' expectations on what makes a first⁃rank travel experience. 5

Although problems are a part of our lives, it certainly doesn't mean that we let them rule our lives forever. One day or another, you'll have to stand up and say, “Problems, I don't want you in my life.” Of course, we've been fighting troubles ever since we were born. Problems with friends, parents, girlfriends, husbands, and children—the list goes on. 1
But good news is that all problems can be dealt with. Now read on to know how to solve your problems.
Talking really helps. What most of us think is that our problems can be understood only by ourselves and that no talking is going to help. But the truth is that when you talk about it, you're setting free the negative energies that have been gathering within you. 2
Write down your problems. Having a personal diary can also be of great help if you don't want a real person to talk with. When you write down your problems, you are setting free all the tension from your system. You can try throwing away the paper on which you wrote your problems. 3
Don't lose faith or hope. No matter what you lose in life, don't lose faith or hope. 4 With faith, hope and confidence, you can rebuild everything that you lose.
5 No matter what problem you get in life, there are another one million people whose problems are bigger than yours. Tell yourself: When they can deal with them, why can't I? Your problems might just seem bigger and worse, but in reality they can be solved.
Go about and solve your problems because every problem, however big or small, always has a way out.
    A.Your problems aren't the worst.
B.Talking helps you move on and let go.

    Passage 17 (2021广东七校联合体二次联考)话题:个人生活
If you've been feeling a lot sleepy in your daily life, here are some tips for picking up your energy levels. But first, you should make sure if you're experiencing some serious illnesses. 1 , keep these tips in mind.
The first recommendation is to exercise. Although it may seem difficult to work out when you're tired, it turns out that physical activity can actually give you more energy. The second thing to work on is to go to sleep early enough to get a full night's sleep, preferably so that you wake up naturally without the need for your alarm.
2 . Thus, another useful tip is to take a nap during the afternoon. Naps can restore your mind and body without taking up too much time, regaining your energy and raising working efficiency. The best length of time for a nap is about 20 minutes. Shorter, and you won't get much out of it. 3 .
4 . Drinking plenty of water and other fluids throughout the day is one important way to stay energized, since dehydration (脱水)leaves us in low spirits. Some experts say that eating smaller meals more often throughout the day can help maintain energy and balance blood sugar levels. Be aware that people who are overweight are more likely to experience tiredness easily. 5 , reducing extra weight could help you gain more energy.
    A.If you're overweight
    B.If you feel uncomfortable
C.As you know, it is quite a good habit
D.However, this goal is hard to achieve in practice
E.Longer, and you may find it harder to sleep at night
F.If you're healthy but just need some extra energy
G.Other ways to increase energy involve our diet and consumption

    Passage 18 (2021湖北部分重点中学一次联考)话题:社会交往
You might have noticed how everyone is obsessed with their screen during gatherings. Disconnecting from devices might be challenging, but there are ways to spend time with your friends without using them. With the right activities you can connect more with them and have fun.
If you want to spend quality time with each other, you and your friends need to sacrifice your screen time. 1 It could also be one of the house rules when you are together. However, everyone in the group must be willing to cooperate or else the purpose might be defeated. By turning off your devices it would focus the atmosphere more on your bonding. Everyone could feel more welcomed and invited. 2
So what are the alternatives other than staring at the screen? Before the trend of high⁃tech devices, a board game had always been the source of entertainment when a group of friends wanted to have some fun. 3 Though they have digital versions, you might not want to miss the opportunity to actually interact (互动)with your friends face to face.
Another helpful way to start a conversation with your friends is through playing question games. 4 But don't worry. There are many different versions of question games you can search online.
5 While it is important to enjoy your get⁃together, going into a purposeful conversation is also necessary. You don't know what your friends are going through, and making room for a heart⁃to⁃heart talk might be what they need.
A.It is better for you all to agree on this matter.
B.So why not bring these classic activities back?
C.You and your friends could attend more to each other.
D.Being interactive is the key to bonding with your friends.
E.Turning off your devices could be the first step you can do.
F.Entertainment isn't the only way to interact with your friends.
G.The main idea of this kind of game is to take turns in involvement.

I spent my most influential 10 months of my life as a junior. 1 . There I attended a local poorly⁃equipped school. Every day, I struggled to fit in the new social environment, but still experienced so many blows. I suffered from racial differences. Besides the heavily polluted air sometimes almost choked me to death. 2 . However, I was convinced that I could challenge myself and make a difference.
During the summer vacation I decided to be a volunteer at an Easter Seals camp where people with special needs required assistance because of disabilities and improved their ability to do things on their own. 3 but the most rewarding. I felt relieved that with my help altogether more than 950 campers gained independence.
I often watched dozens of abandoned animals starving on the streets. I felt sad for homeless dogs and wanted to help them all. Over the course of ten months, I provided about 50 stray animals with food, water, and even medical care with money from my pocket and found homes for 20-30 dogs! 4 .
As the new school year began, our department had a renovation(翻修). I offered to help clean up all the unwanted books. Instead of recycling hundreds of those books, I convinced the department that the books could serve a higher purpose which in the end benefited the schools in Arizona.
5 . It made me become a person with love, patience, appreciation, determination, and above all enthusiasm. I trust that it is through enthusiasm, ideas and action that all changes can occur.
