In many high schools, there are strict rules about using mobile phones. If your phone rings in class, for example, the teacher will be very angry.
Every mobile phone has a ringtone(铃声) . It tells you that someone is calling you. Now, there is a ringtone called “mosquitotone(蚊子铃声) ”. Using it, students can receive calls and text messages in class but the teacher will not realize what is happening. How? Mosquitotone has a special sound. Only children and teenagers can hear it. As we get older, we are unable to hear some sounds with high frequencies(频率) . As a result, a child or teenager can hear the mosquitotone ringtone, but it’s inaudible to someone 20 or older. But sometimes, people over 20 can hear the ringtone. One British student’s phone uses mosquitotone. In class, the student’s phone rang. The 32-year-old teacher looked at the student and became unhappy. “I heard that. You know the rule: no mobile phone in class. ”
Not all the students are interested in mosquitotone. Jerry Jones, a high school student of 17, says, “Using mosquitotone too often is bad of our hearing. I may use it for pleasure, but not in class. It’s unfair to the teachers!” What do parents think of mosquitotone? “I think it is perfect for places like movies and theaters.” says Connie Nelson, 44. “Think about it. You’re watching a film and someone’s mobile phone rings. Mosquitotone is good because many people don’t hear it. However, it also has a bad influence on their study if students use it in class. ”

If you look at a house from far away, you might see some of its features, such as doors and windows. If you go nearer to the house, you might find that it is made of bricks. When you look closely, you can see that the house is made of many bricks.
The bricks are the building blocks (块) of the house.
Your body has building blocks too. They’re called cells. The bodies of plants and animals are very different from one another, but they all have one thing in common—all are made up of cells. There are many different kinds of cells in your body. Each kind of cell has its own job, such as muscle (肌肉) cells, bone cells, and blood cells.
Cells work together to keep your body alive. A group of similar cells that work together to do the same job form a tissue (组织). The human body is  made of different kinds of tissues. Muscle tissue and nerve (神经) tissue are two kinds of tissues.
An organ is a group of different kinds of tissues that work together to carry out a certain job. Each kind of organ in your body has a special job to do. Some examples of organs are your stomach, heart and skin.
Like cells and tissues, organs work in groups too. A group of organs that work together to do a certain job is called an organ system (系统). All the organ systems in your body work together to keep you alive. These systems can be put into the two groups—Support and Control Systems as well as Energy and Transport Systems.

It is dark. Holmes, Lestrade and I move towards the house. “Let’s wait here,” Holmes says. “We can hide behind these rocks. Watson, go to the house and see what they are doing. Make sure they don’t see you.” I hide behind a wall. I can see Mr. Stapleton and Sir Henry sitting at a table.
Then, Stapleton leaves the room and walks to a shed(小屋) in the yard. He opens the door and there is a strange noise from inside. After a minute he locks the door and goes back into the house. I hurry back to report everything to Lestrade and Holmes.
There is now a thick white fog over the moor(荒野). “The fog is getting thicker,” says Holmes. “This is very serious—Sir Henry must go home soon.”
Suddenly, we hear footsteps. They get closer and we see Sir Henry walking towards us through the fog. Then, we hear something. A terrible animal appears. It is a huge black hound(猎犬). There is fire coming from its mouth and its huge eyes are glowing(发红光).

Most of us get our earliest life lessons from fairy tales(童话故事). However, when we grow up, we start to learn new things about life, especially that love doesn’t always win, and that a frog is just a frog. Even so, our love for fairy tales never dies. Just look at cartoons like The Lion King and Frozen which have millions of fans young and old.
Fairy tales are all about the real world. But if children only see just one side of life, adults usually see the other. For example, in the 2014 film Maleficent, we’re told the tale of Sleeping Beauty from the views of the evil(邪恶的) queen. Unlike the children’s version(版本) of the story, we see that the queen wasn’t born evil. Instead, she experiences great losses, leading to her “evil” side. And in US writer James Garner’s bedtime story books, he tells the classic story of Little Red Riding Hood(小红帽), but with a modern touch: When the wolf tells Red Riding Hood that it isn’t safe for a little girl to walk through the woods alone, she calls the wolf sexist(性别歧视者), which connects with today’s women’s rights movement.
Fairy tales aren’t just stories our parents read to us at bedtime. They may usually start with “Once upon a time...”, but as we grow older, we learn that every story doesn’t always need a “Happily ever after” to be a good one.
    Learning From Fairy Tales
    Introduction
Fairy tales are mainly stories that come from our daily lives.

that引导宾语从句时,无意义;what什么;how如何;whether是否。 根据“we don’t understand”可知从句中缺少动词understand的宾语,可用what来充当。故选B。
    2.C
shouldn’t不应该;mustn’t禁止;can’t不能;needn’t不需要。固定短语can’t...too much“再怎么样也不为过”,故选C。
    3.A
    5.A
根据“I’m free the whole weekend”可知应是两天都行,而由“is”可知为单数,故选A。
    6.B
根据“since we have never been to the island”可知因为从来没有去过这个岛,所以几乎不知道接下来会发生什么,故选B。
    7.C
look down向下看;grow up长大;calm down冷静;give up放弃。根据“Don’t cry! Stop behaving like a child!”劝告不要哭,及后文“ find a way as soon as possible.”
根据“know the weather about the place of interest ... before you travel there.”
结合问句“When will Susan come back?”
根据“I won’t. That’s a...”

as many as和……一样多;as much as差不多,和……一样多;as well as也,又,和,和……一样;as good as几乎,实际上,无异。根据“it looks…new”可知,此处应是用as good as表示“几乎,实际上”,表示“新”的程度。故选D。
    13.C
