The world's largest rainforest, the Amazon, grows over eight countries and covers 40% of South America. It makes about one-fifth of Earth's oxygen(氧气). People call it "the lungs(肺) of the Earth".
However, the rainforest is in danger now. A large fire broke out(发生) in the Amazon last month. As of Aug. 27, it had lasted for 22 days. In fact the Amazon has seen a large number of fires in 2019. Between January and August, there were over 74,000 fires—the highest number since 2013, the BBC reported.
Most of the fires came from human activities. Farmers in the Amazon use fire to prepare for planting for a long time. But these fires can easily be out of control. People around Amazon have fought the fires. But scientists have said that it will take around 20 to 40 years to rebuild the forest's ecosystem(生态系统). The fires burned 15% to 17% of trees, China Daily reported.
The Amazon is home to about 1 million people. About 3 million kinds of plants and animals also live there. Many of them have lost their homes because of the fires. The Amazon river is also polluted(污染). Air is not clean any more. Earth is our home. Let's protect the environment together to make a cleaner and better earth in the future!

Lighting is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena(现象). It is also one of the most deadly phenomena. A bolt of lightning is six times hotter than the surface(表面) of the Sun and gives out 30,000 amps of electricity(电). It can travel at 100,000 kilometres per hour and has the ability to hit a target up to 40 kilometres away. About 1,000 people around the world are killed by lightning every day.
Only about ten percent of people struck by lightening will actually die, but the others are actually very badly injured, with burns, broken bones, blindness, deafness, paralysis, or memory loss. However, when the electricity passes through their brain, it can occasionally have unusual and even positive effects. Some blind people have got their sight back after being struck by lightning. One woman said a psychological test showed her intelligence(智力) had greatly improved, and one man said he could no longer feel cold at all and could go out in temperature below freezing in just a T-shirt!
So what should you do to stay safe in a thunderstorm? The most important rule is to stay inside, but do not go near phones, electrical appliances, plumbing, or water. If you are stuck outside, do not take shelter under a tree. Instead, roll yourself up into a ball on the ground as small as possible. And do not think it has to be raining in order for lightning to strike.
Strangely, lightning seems to prefer some people to others. If you are a man, you are six times more likely to be struck by lightning than a woman!

七、答案:
Protect the earth and love animals
Good morning, everyone! Today I am very happy to be here to give a talk a-bout protecting the earth and loving animals.
The earth is our home, and animals are our friends. We share the same home with nature. However, we are facing many different serious problems. People cut down trees and forests, so lots of animals have nowhere to live. Moreover, some hunters kill animals for their bones and furs to make money. Some natural disasters happen more often than before. We should take action right away. The government should make laws to protect some wild animals. As students, we should also plant more trees to provide them with more living areas.
In my opinion, it is important for everyone to play a part in protecting our earth. If we do nothing, there may be few animals left. So let's act together to protect the earth and love animals as well.
That's all. Thanks for your listening!
