二、阅读理解(共15小题:每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项。
Wetlands are any land that is flooded with shallow water all or most of the time. They are a natural water holding system.
There are many types of wetlands. Among them, bogs, marshes and swamps are the three main types. The different types of wetlands have different kinds of plants. Only mosses(苔藓)and a few other kinds of plants can grow in bogs. Grassy plants like cattails(香蒲)and reeds(芦苇)are the most common plants in a marsh. A swamp is a forest whose ground is underwater all or most of the time. Unlike bogs or marshes, a swamp is full of trees and bushes. It's not a good idea to go exploring a swamp without a guide. There are hidden pools of water, thick mud, and sometimes big crocodiles(鳄鱼)looking for their next meal.
Hungry crocodiles aren't the only animals that make the wetlands their home. Otters, turtles, frogs, snakes and many other animals do too. The water is home to many kinds of fish and crabs. Birds, including ducks, geese and cranes, use wetlands seasonally during their long migrations.
Wetlands are important because they provide habitats for plants and animals. A wetland system can also protect shorelines, make polluted waters clean, prevent floods, and restore underground water supplies.
According to WWF, more than half of the world's wetlands have disappeared since the beginning of the 20th century. If this continues, countless plant and animal species will surely die out. Without wetlands, cities have to spend more money treating water. Don't feel helpless. Try to do your part to protect them right now. Here are some ideas.

Many of you have probably had this experience: You get on a train and are ready to have a rest or read a book, only to find that the passenger in front of you is watching a TV show on his/her tablet without earphones. The child next to you won't stop crying. And the old lady behind you talks on her phone during the whole trip.
Wish the train could be less noisy? There might be a solution for you. The Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, one of China's busiest high-speed rail lines, will have "quiet" carriages(车厢)starting from Dec.23, Xinhua reported.
In quiet carriages, onboard videos will be quiet and announcements(公告)will be made at a lower voice. Doors at the ends of the carriage will be kept closed to cut down noise from other carriages, CGTN noted. Train attendants(乘务)will make sure that passengers remain quiet and follow the rules.
Passengers who are willing to follow the rules can choose the quiet carriages when booking their tickets, according to China's national railway operator.
Some people have pointed out that this kind of quiet environment should be offered in all carriages. They say that having quiet carriages might give people the impression that they don't need to be quiet in non-quiet carriages.
While some Internet users are in favor of the new service, it has also caused discussion about just how quiet travelers should be in quiet carriages. Many people have raised questions such as "What if I snore(打呼噜)?" and "Can we talk to our travel companions(同伴)if we need to?"
19.Paragraph 1 is written to show that ________.
A.many people watch TV shows on trains
B.people do all kinds of things on trains
C.traveling by train is very common
D.people on trains are sometimes very noisy
20.Which of the following is TRUE about quiet carriages?
A.Train attendants won't make any announcements.
B.No one will make sure passengers follow the rules.
C.Passengers won't be allowed to watch videos.
D.The doors at the ends of these carriages will stay closed.
21.What does the underlined phrase "in favor of" in the last paragraph mean?
A.In need of. B.In support of.
C.In search of. D.In place of.
22.What do we know from the last paragraph?
A.The rules should be made more clear.
B.Most people don't like the service.
C.It's hard to make trains perfectly quiet.
D.The service is better for solo(独自的)travelers.

Mapping out the future
Last summer, my parents and I took a drive to another state. A few hours into the trip, we took a wrong turn. But our trusty GPS pulled up a map of the area and got us back. It made me wonder: Who created maps in the first place? After some searching online, I learned that people who map out roads, mountains, oceans, and other places around the world are called cartographers.
What does a cartographer do?
Cartographers, also called mapmakers, study geographic information. They use this information to make maps of places around the world. Some of these maps are digital. They are often used in GPS. Other maps are printed in books. To do their work, cartographers put together information from many different places. They also use ground surveys (调查). Some do ground surveys themselves. Most cartographers, however, depend on surveyors for this important information. Surveyors collect information for mapmaking. They measure (测量) land, air space, and water areas.
What does it take to be a cartographer?
Most cartographers have a bachelor's degree. The degree might be in cartography, geography, or something similar. Students who are interested in becoming cartographers should learn as much as they can about geography. It also helps to take courses in math and computer science.
With the rise of computer-based tools such as GPS, cartographers need stronger computer skills than they did in the past.
___________
In the US, jobs for cartographers are expected to grow. This is due to the increasing use of maps in the armed forces. Also, digital maps have increasingly become a main part of GPS.
According to what I've read about cartographers, I'd say that their work is very important to a lot of people. Next time a map keeps me from getting lost, I'll be sure to thank a cartographer!
23.In Paragraph 1, the writer included his experience in order to show ________.
A.the GPS is only needed when driving to another place
B.it is common to get lost on a trip
C.a mapmaker's work is important
D.the GPS is not always useful
24.The writer talked about cartographers from ________ aspects.
A.two B.three C.four D.five
25.Surveyors can do all these following things except (除了) ________.
A.doing ground surveys B.collecting information
C.doing some mapping D.doing some measuring
26.Which of the following best fits the blank in the passage?
A.Will more cartographers be needed?
B.Will the cartographers be replaced by robots?
C.Why is it hard for cartographers to find jobs?
D.Why do cartographers make different maps?

More than an event, the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 is also for exchanging goodwill and friendship. The design details of rich elements such as the medals and mascots(吉祥物)serve this purpose successfully. Let's take a look at these Chinese elements(元素)through the designs and the ingenious(设计独特的)ideas behind them.
Medals
The front side of the Winter Olympic medals was designed with the idea of the Chinese jade concentric circle pendants(同心圆吊坠)in the ancient times, with five rings representing "the unity of heaven and earth and the unity of people's hearts". The opposite side of the medals was designed from a piece of Chinese jade-ware(玉器)called "Bi", a double jade disc(圆盘)with a round hole in the center. There are 24 dots and arcs on the rings of the back side, similar to an ancient astronomical map, which represents the 24th edition of the Olympic Winter Games.
Mascots
Bing Dwen Dwen, the cute mascot of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, catches attention with the panda's full-body shell made out of ice. The idea came from traditional Chinese snack "ice-sugar gourd"(tanghulu), while the shell also looks like a space suit—welcoming new technologies for a possible future without limit.
The mascot for Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games is Shuey Rhon Rhon. It looks like an iconic Chinese red lantern commonly seen on doors and streets during Chinese New Year. It is filled with the meanings of happiness, harvest, wealth and brightness.

I'm very glad to share my ideas on how to learn English well with you.
As for me, I usually listen to the radio in English and watch English films. In English class, I listen carefully in class and take notes at the same time so that I can remember what the teachers talk about. In this way, I find my English has improved a lot.
As the students of Grade Seven, why not learn to sing more English songs? It's good for your listening and speaking. When you are having English class, you should always speak English, and after class, try to speak to foreigners. It's good for your listening and speaking. It's also a good idea to read newspapers and magazines in English. You can make a pen friend from England or America and write emails to each other.
Wish all of us can improve our English.
That's all. Thank you for your listening.
