二、阅读理解。

Our parents always tell us to eat more healthily to grow tall and strong. A new study shows that Chinese people are getting taller. Over the past 100 years, Chinese people have reached new average(平均) heights. The average height of both Chinese men and women rose by(增加了) about 10 cm.

The Imperial College London of the UK did a study. They compared the average heights of 18-year-olds between 1914 and 2014. In 2014, Chinese men reached an average height of 172 cm, up from 161 cm in 1914. And the average height for Chinese women in 2014 was 160 cm, compared to 150 cm a century ago.

Chinese people are now taller than people in some other countries. Chinese women are the 87th tallest in the world, climbing 47 places. Chinese men are the 93rd tallest, CNN reported.

Most scientists think that better nutrition(营养) in childhood is the main reason for this height increase, Scientific American reported.

About 60 to 80 percent of the difference in height between different people is because of genetic factors(遗传因素). But 20 to 40 percent of the difference is because of environmental factors(环境因素), mainly nutrition. Having a healthier diet as a child can make one’s height increase.

In China, many people are leaving the countryside to find jobs in the cities. Because the city is much richer than the countryside, and often there is more work there. Services such as hospital and transport are usually much better in the city than in the countryside. They hope to make their lives better when they move to the city.

But in the big cities of Europe like London or Paris, people are moving out of the city. These families want to live a quiet life. They are tired of the noise and the dust(灰尘) of the city, and they are also tired of the crowded(拥挤的) streets, crowded trains and buses.
