When Aly Stosz was in kindergarten, she easily lowered head-and-shoulders over the rest of her class. As she continued through elementary school, her growth never slowed. When she was in high school, she began to grow slowly. Years later in 2013, Aly reached 6 feet 9 inches tall with a women's 16 shoe size.
Normal activities like shopping for clothes and shoes can be stressful for Aly because she struggles to find anything that fits properly on her. Most items that are sold as dresses end up be-coming shirts for her, and it's a miracle if a store ever has a pair of pants long enough for her legs. But, through all of these struggles, Aly has learned to embrace the body she's been given and to walk with confidence.
Loving her height wasn't always an easy thing to do. As a young girl.Aly was teased for her height and called"monster". This caused a lot of pain and struggle as she grew up and wrestled with how different she was from everyone around her. Ultimately, she realized that most people were searching for ways to stand out and be different, and here she was born with her own unique look!
These days Aly is strong and confident. She focuses on holding her head up high. She also made sure to surround herself with people who celebrate her strength and beauty. Aly's boyfriend,Sean Webb, is 6 feet 4 inches tall and says that they definitely get a lot of attention when they go out together, but it's all good attention.
Many women struggle for years to own the body they've been given and walk with the confidence. Watching this interview of Aly is inspiring and encouraging. There should be nothing standing in the way of allowing yourself to feel beautiful each and every day.

Virtual reality is already widespread in entertainment and is starting to spread to fields ranging from education to health care. But while vision and hearing interfaces are extremely advanced, and touch is improving, one key sense has been missing from the virtual world: smell.
That may be about to change. Engineer Xinge Yu of the City University of Hong Kong and his colleagues have developed a lightweight, flexible and wireless olfactory(嗅觉的)interface that can precisely deliver smells such as lavender, pineapple or green tea to VR users and more fully involve them in virtual worlds with pleasant smell."Bringing smell into VR expands it into another dimension,"Yu says."We wanted to develop something in a wearable,skin-integrated format that people can go anywhere with and use anytime."
The team's design was described in a paper published on Tuesday in Nature Communications. A key advantage is that it can control smell intensity. One demonstration in the study involved in-creasing the intensity of the smell generated as a woman in a four-dimensional movie brought arose up to her nose.
The study includes demonstrations of possible applications beyond just increasing VR, including communicating messages by smell and evoking(引起)emotions. The researchers suggest the devices could even be used to lessen depressed mood or promote recall in people with age-related cognitive decline."The pleasant smell is directly connected to the emotional and memory parts of the brain, so there are a lot of applications related to well-being and health," a researcher says.
The researchers have already started shrinking things down further. They have a system that's two to three times smaller now, and they aim to shrink it to something five to 10 times smaller in the future."That's the next step,"Yu says.
28.Which sense develops slowly in the virtual world?
    A.Hearing. B. Feeling. C.Sight. D. Smell.
29.What is the main strength of the new design?
    A. It is light in weight. B. It is flexible and wireless.
    C. It is easy to wear. D. It can command the smell concentration.
30.What's the main idea of paragraph 4?
A.To show the definition of the virtual world.
    B. To describe the key content of the new research.
C.To introduce the potential uses of new technology.
D.To explain the main function of the application.
31.What will the researchers do about the device next?
    A. To reduce its size. B.To change its shape.
    C. To strengthen its flexibility. D. To decrease its weight.
    D
Constructed from delicate, flexible and lifelike materials, soft robots have the potential to improve on their heavy and awkward,metal-bodied robots. Now a new generation of soft robots is growing and self-repairing its way to meeting researchers' high expectations.
Shepherd and his team designed a soft robot that not only heals damage but doesn't need to be told when to do so. Using fiber-optic(光纤)sensors,the robot can detect when its material has been punctured. Then it uses a hyper-elastic(超弹性的)material to quickly heal the wound. The robot is also programmed to move in a new direction after damage.Later work could expand these repairs to bigger missing parts and holes.
Another team created a soft robot that "grows" like a plant or fungus. But to grow, soft robots typically have to drag material behind them and use it to 3-D-print new structures. This can hinder(妨碍)a robot's work like dragging around a garden hose(软管)would for a person, says study co-author Chris Ellison, a University of Minnesota engineer and materials scientist.
Building soft robots that can work, heal and grow independently could change many areas of human life. Swift robots could fit into factory settings more easily if they had human like hands that could use the same tools we do, notes ETH Zurich robotics Robert Katzschmann, who was not involved in the above studies.
Soft robots could also find a place in hospitals. Working alongside nurses and doctors, a robot could help softly and safely hold organs in place during surgery."Helping hands could make medicine a bit less costly,”Katzschmann says.
"I think soft robots are an avenue to endurance and flexibility not seen before in artificial machines,"Shepherd says."With heightened sensing and motion skills, strong compositions, and newfound independence, these soft machines' future looks solid."
32.What does the underlined word"punctured" in paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A. Made a hole. B. Made a mistake.
    C. Caused by a sharp object. D. Designed and produced.
33.Compared with traditional robots, what is special about soft robots?
A.They can walk freely like people.
    B. They are self-repairing and more flexible.
    C. They can operate on patients independently.
D.They use human like hands to repair machines.
34.What's Robert Katzschmann's attitude towards soft robots?
    A. Supportive. B. Skeptical. C. Indifferent. D. Neutral.
35.What's the best title of the passage?
    A.Old Robots Have Many Disadvantages.
    B. Soft Robots Are Changing Human Life
C.New-style Robots Are Around the Comer.
    D. Soft Robots Take Steps toward Independence

William drops a sandwich into his backpack, says goodbye and runs into the cold, dark morning.
School is only a mile away, but William's route is almost two miles. He pulls his jacket around him, too light for the weather just like his mother warned, and heads away from the school for a few blocks. He hurries up a walkway. The lights inside the house are on, and he knows John will be waiting, that the front door will fly open just before he gets there, that he doesn't really need to walk all the way up to the porch. But he does. The door bursts open, and John runs out without a coat. William tells John to go back inside and get a coat on. John's mother says the same and holds the door open.
"Hi,William," she says, smiling. William returns the Hi,and John bounds out into the cold as if it is a summer morning. The two of them start their walk to school.
"John is a chromosome(染色体)off, just one,"his mother likes to say."But everything else about him is beautiful." John walks excitedly toward school with his best friend William.

    (Text 10)
M:Two trendy restaurants in Paris give beautiful people better tables than ordinary people. Staff who used to work there talked to a Paris newspaper about the restaurants. They said,"The good-looking customers are led to the good places where they can be easily seen; the non-good-looking ones must be seated in the corners of the room."The rule for celebrity diners is different--whether they are pretty or ugly, old or young, they get the good tables. The waiters and waitresses also have to look good. An ex-employee said,"Anyone short, without a model's slim figure or over 30 need not apply."The owners want to make sure the restaurants have a good image so they put attractive guests in easy-to-see places. One owner visits regularly to check on his"beauty policy".If he sees a"non-attractive"person at a good table, he will tell the staff,"There are good-looking people, and you put them here; there are bad-looking people, and you put them there.”Furthermore, staff can't give a table to customers who make telephone bookings, just in case they are not beautiful. Staff decide where to seat them after they come to the restaurant according to their faces.

    第四部分写作
    第一节
    One possible version:
    Dear Miss Li,
I am Li Hua, an 18-year-old girl. I'm writing to apply to become a volunteer in International exchange activities to beheld at the Giant panda base.
I do believe I'm an ideal candidate. With an outgoing and cheerful personality, I can get along very well with people. What's more, with a good command of English, I can communicate freely with foreigners. Most importantly, I know a lot about pandas because my father work as a zookeeper who looks after pandas. I'm eager to appeal to all the people loving pandas.
I sincerely hope I will be given such a good chance.Loo-king forward to your reply.
    Best regards,
    Li Hua
    第二节
    One possible version:
William knows this, too, but doesn't think much about the future when he's with John. He takes him to the basketball games to shoot photos for the yearbook. John makes sure the equipment is safe, and he has no problem asking schoolmates to pause for photos.Everybody loves John, but few take the time to actually be his friend except William. You'll always see them walking to and from school together. It's their ritual(习惯), the one John enjoys the most.
Having a friend can be the most important possession in life when you are in high school. It means a lot more good days than bad. When the weather turns even colder, and snow floats magically out of the dark morning sky, William says “no thanks”to people who offer him a ride to school. Walking with John, chasing snowflakes and walking off smiley faces in front yards, is worth the cold. It's worth the time being with someone who is a little bit different, in a good way.
