    Bethany Simpsn, a pupil at St Clumb Majr Academy, Crnwall, bravely stepped in when her stepfather Rbert Hskins stpped breathing n March 15. She delivered CPR befre the ambulance arrived.
    Bethany’s mther Jane and Rbert were watching TV in bed when bth f them had fallen asleep, but Jane wke up and nticed Rbert’s breathing had becme weak and hard. Jane quickly called 999 and fllwed the peratr’s advice, including mving him nt his side t make him mre cmfrtable. But when Rbert stpped breathing cmpletely and the peratr tld her t give CPR, Jane cmpletely frze.
    “I panicked(恐慌) and said ‘I can’t d it’,” said Jane. “Frtunately, Bethany heard me scream, came int the bedrm and said, ‘It’s OK, Mum. I knw what t d.’ She was s cnfident and tk charge.” Bethany perfrmed CPR that kept Rbert alive.
    Rbert, wh is nw recvering at hme, said, “I wuld just like t sincerely thank St Jhn Ambulance fr teaching the children first aid. If it wasn’t fr them and Bethany, I wuldn’t be here.” The ten-year-ld says she desn’t believe she is a herine. “I’m just glad my dad is still here,” she added.
    Bth Rbert and Jane believe the gvernment shuld ask all schls t teach first aid. “This incident just shws why it’s imprtant t teach everyne first aid—especially in schls,” said Jane. “Withut my daughter and the training St Jhn Ambulance gave her, Rbert wuld be dead and I wuld be heartbrken. I’m s prud f Bethany and s grateful.”

    Cl it dwn by taking a bath r shwer. Keep the water and rm temperature warm, especially fr children as they may easily feel cld. Sme peple like t add 1/2 cup f baking sda t the bath water. This may help reduce yur pain. Yu culd als place a wet and cl clth n the burnt area fr abut 15 minutes. D that several times a day.
    Apply misturiser (润肤霜). Yu can chse sme cream that makes yur skin nt that dry. Apply ale, either the plant frm r gel. Ale cntains active things that help reduce pain. Over the next few days, the skin may peel (脱皮). This is the bdy’s way f eliminating the dead skin, s keep using such cream t help make yur skin cmfrtable.
    Leave any blisters cmplete. This helps speed healing and avid infectin as burst blisters can easily get infected. Yu can cver blisters t prtect them if needed and definitely d nt wear clthing that will cause frictin (摩擦) as this can “pp” the blisters. Damaging the blisters can, and prbably will cause mre pain with rubbing n sft skin and als cause infectin.
    Give pain relief if needed. The medicine aspirin is nt recmmended fr children.
    At this pint, the persn may nt be cmfrtable, s d nt make it wrse by applying smething that can prevent healing and increase r lck in the heat under the skin, therefre causing mre burn damage.
