    A
This is not a diet. It’s a simple way to lose weight. You don’t have to give up the food you love or join a gym. You just follow some habits that thin people have. Keep them, and you’ll become thin.
◆Wake up When you wake up in the morning, sit up slowly without using your hands. With legs straight out, lean forward(前俯) until you feel sore in your back. It will use up 10 calories.
◆Start with soup Order a clear soup, and have it before the main food. In this way, you’ll feel fuller, so you’ll eat less when the main food comes.
◆An apple or more a day Apples are full of fiber(纤维) and water, so your stomach will want less. Studies show that people who eat at least three apples or pears a day may lose weight.
◆Talk it up Every time you use the cell phone, stand up and walk around. Heavy people sit on average two and a half hours more each day than thin people. This skill is very important as standing up and walking around will burn up 50 or more calories.
Use these skills, and you will have a big weight loss.

Recently, I was asked to go to my students’ cross-country(越野赛) meet. At first, I did not know if I should go because honestly, I am not the biggest sports fan of any kind. However, I would never regret going there after I watched it.
Although many people don’t consider cross-country a sport, I disagree. Cross-country beginners have to work out and exercise just like you do for any other sport. They run for hours and miles. In fact, many sports consider running as their punishment for bad behaviour(行为), but I wonder what the coach would do to punish a cross-country beginner.
Honestly, I never knew how much fun I would have watching many kids run for fun. They kept running no matter how tired they were. The public would not only just cheer for the runners they know but also cheer for all runners, fast and slow. When the students heard you cheering them on, or even just clapping(鼓掌) to encourage them, they would start sprinting and try their best to cross the finish line.
My students did a wonderful job and I took many pictures of them. When they found that someone from their school came to see them, they were very excited. Cross-country is actually pretty great and I definitely want to support cross-country later in my teaching career. What I will do next is to go to the meets with my students.
    5. What can we learn from the second paragraph?
    A. Cross-country beginners often exercise for a short time at first.
    B. Cross-country beginners need to train hard through running.
    C. Cross-country beginners will not be punished because of bad
    behaviour.
    D. Cross-country beginners never exercise mile after mile.
    6. What is the meaning of the underlined word “sprinting” in paragraph 3?
    A. Taking a break.
    B. Becoming shy.
    C. Running as fast as possible.
    D. Shouting as loudly as possible.
    7. How will the author support cross-country?
    A. By cheering on the runners.
    B. By guiding the runners.
    C. By attending the meets.
    D. By running along with the runners.
    C
    How to Sleep Better
If you’re having trouble getting good sleep through the night (turning, waking up more than once, for example), this passage will tell you what you can do to make sure of a peaceful night’s sleep.
•Get up on time. Changing your sleeping time by more than an hour can badly affect your sleep quality.8. For example, if you usually wake up at 6 a.m. on weekdays to get to work, you might go to bed around 10 p.m., because that’s when you start to feel sleepy, and it’s also a good time to make sure of 8 hours of sleep. If, on the weekend, you sleep until 9 a.m., you probably won’t be able to fall asleep that night until 1 a.m.
•9. Wait at least three hours after dinner before going to sleep. Digestion (消化) slows down while asleep, and a full stomach may affect sleep. Similarly, you should avoid going to bed with an empty stomach, as a completely empty stomach may equally affect your sleeping patterns.
•10. Bright light during the time when you’re supposed to be sleeping can affect the clock inside of your body. Turn your light off, or use a very dim (暗淡的) night light. 11. They include windows, LED clocks, and computer lights.
    • Change your sleeping position. You may think that it’s impossible to control what position you sleep in since you aren’t fully aware of what you are doing, but it is possible and it can make a big difference. 12.

    A. Try to avoid all kinds of light.
    B. Keep the room as dark as possible.
    C. Make notes of unusual circumstances.
    D. Be careful with what you eat or drink before bed.
    E. Sleep is considered to be enough only when there is no daytime sleepiness.
    F. So if you wake up in the middle of the night, try to have a comfortable position.
    G. In other words, sudden change of sleeping time will affect your “biological clock”.
    8. 解析:根据上文“Get up on time. Changing your sleeping time by more than an hour can badly affect your sleep quality.”
    9. 解析:根据下文“Wait at least three hours after dinner before going to sleep.”
    10. 解析:根据下文“Bright light during the time when you’re supposed to be sleeping can affect the clock inside of your body.”
    11. 解析:根据上句“Turn your light off, or use a very dim night light.” 下文的“windows, LED clocks, and computer lights”等都是光源。
    答案:A
    12. 解析:根据上句“You may think that it’s impossible to control what position you sleep in since you aren’t fully aware of what you are doing, but it is possible and it can make a big difference.”
I had an interesting childhood. It was filled with surprise and amusements, all because of my mother—loving, sweet, and yet absent-minded and forgetful. One strange family trip we took when I was eleven tells a lot about her.
My two sets of grandparents lived in Colorado and North Dakota, and my parents decided to spend a few weeks driving to those states and seeing all the sights along the way.As the first day of our trip approached,David,my eight-year-old brother, and I unwillingly said goodbye to all of our friends. Who knew if we’d ever see them again? Finally, the moment of our departure arrived, and we loaded suitcases, books, games, camping equipment, and a tent into the car and bravely drove off. We bravely drove off again two hours later after we’d returned home to get the purse and traveller’s checks mum had forgotten.
David and I were always a little nervous when using gas station bathrooms if mum was driving while dad was sleeping. “You stand outside the door and play lookout while I go, and I’ll stand outside the door and play lookout while you go.” I had terrible pictures in my mind: “Honey, where are the kids?” “What?!Oh, Gosh ... I thought they were being awfully quiet.” We were never actually left behind in a strange city, but we weren’t about to take any chances.
On the fourth or fifth night,we had trouble finding a hotel with a vacancy. After driving in vain for some time, mum suddenly got a great idea: Why didn’t we find a house with a likely-looking backyard and asked if we could set up the tent there? David and I became nervous. To our great relief, dad turned down the idea. Mum could never understand our objections. If a strange family showed up on her front doorsteps, mum would have been delighted. She thinks everyone in the world is as nice as she is. We finally found a vacancy in the next town.
    注意:
    (1)续写词数应为150左右;
    (2)请按如下格式作答。
The next day we remembered the brand-new tent we had brought with us. Mum insisted that we should make full use of it since we had brought it. David and I looked at dad, hoping he could refuse her crazy idea again, but to our great disappointment, he agreed with mum’s idea. So we set up the tent at the foot of the mountain by a river. “Oh, I forgot the pillows!” Mum screamed out before we slept. Finally, we had to collect some grass as our pillows. Despite the ache of my neck, I enjoyed the nice night with fresh air and lots of stars.
We drove through several states and saw lots of great sights along the way. The tent became a close friend then. Every time we camped, mum read a book or sang a soft song. The warmth of her arms let us feel comfortable and safe. Though she was forgetful and absent-minded, laughter accompanied us along the way. Finally, we met our grandparents and enjoyed family happiness. This trip made me experience my mother’s love and family love.
