It was a Sunday night. I circled the neighborhood a few times, looking for a place to park my car. Finally, I found one to the south of my house. It was behind a late-model Jeep. I tried to back into the space, but I failed to see the angles clearly. I heard it before I felt it, the sound of plastic on plastic, like a sheet of sandpaper along the surface of a painted piece of wood. I got out of my car to check the damage. My car was unharmed. However, there were two distinct lines on the Jeep.
Then I noticed a woman, walking her dog, who was now photographing me with her phone. “Hope you’re no planning to drive away,” she said quietly. Until then, I was annoyed with myself for having been careless, but now I was mad with her for taking my picture. How dare she, I thought. She had no respect for my privacy. And how dare she assume I would do the wrong thing? But soon I calmed down because I knew she wasn’t entirely incorrect. I’d made no decision to drive away without leaving ante (预付款) but I’d be lying if I said the idea hadn’t flashed across my mind. It was dark, and aside from her no one was watching. It happens all the time-the hit-and-run in the parking lot.
We all have those desires to behave selfishly, to go against the social contract; it is not the thought but what we do with it that counts. It is the commitment (承诺) to take responsibility, to care for one another, and to think about the greater good that makes this world a better place to stay. The choice to own up was left to me. I left a note with my name and phone number under the wiper blade (雨刮器) of the Jeep.
    4. What happened to the author on that Sunday night?
    A. He hit a parked car accidentally. B. He got hurt in a car accident
    C. He knocked down someone. D. He failed to find a parking space.
    5. Why did the author feel angry with the woman?
    A. She blocked his view on purpose.
    B. She spoke to him in a very rude way.
    C. She refused to take responsibility for her fault.
    D. She photographed him without permission.
    6. What can be the best title for the text?
    A. A Tragedy Happens in the Parking Lot
    B. The Greater Good Makes the World Better
    C. A Note Left Makes a Difference
    D. Photographing without Permission Disrespects Privacy
    7. What does the author intend to tell us through his story?
A Everyone makes mistakes. B. Apologizing sincerely matters.
    C. Avoid conflicts with others. D. Always do the right thing.
A 5. D 6. C 7. D
根据第一段的“I tried to back into the space, but I failed to see the angles clearly. I heard it before I felt it, the sound of plastic on plastic, like a sheet of sandpaper along the surface of a painted piece of wood.(我试图倒回到车位里,但我看不清角度。在我感觉到它之前,我听到了它的声音,塑料对塑料的声音,就像一张砂纸沿着一块油漆过的木头表面)”可知,那个星期天的晚上,作者意外地撞上了一辆停着的车,故选A。
    【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“but now I was mad with her for taking my picture. How dare she, I thought. She had no respect for my privacy.(但现在我为她拍了我的照片而生气。她怎么敢这样,我想。她不尊重我的隐私)”可知,作者对那个女人感到生气是因为她未经允许就给作者拍照,故选D。
    【6题详解】
主旨大意题。根据全文内容,结合最后一段中“It is the commitment (承诺) to take responsibility, to care for one another, and to think about the greater good that makes this world a better place to stay. The choice to own up was left to me. I left a note with my name and phone number under the wiper blade (雨刮器) of the Jeep.(它是一种承担责任的承诺,是一种相互关怀的承诺,是一种为使这个世界变得更美好而考虑更大利益的承诺。坦白的选择权留给了我。我把我的名字和电话号码留在了吉普车的雨刷下)”可知,文章主要讲述作者有一次无意中撞到了另一辆车,虽然有逃逸的想法闪过脑海,但作者最终勇敢承担责任,在对方车上留下了自己的姓名和电话号码,故C项“留下的字条意义重大”适合作为文章标题。故选C。
    【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段的“We all have those desires to behave selfishly, to go against the social contract; it is not the thought but what we do with it that counts. It is the commitment (承诺) to take responsibility, to care for one another, and to think about the greater good that makes this world a better place to stay.(我们都有自私、违背社会契约的欲望;重要的不是思想,而是我们用思想做了什么。它是一种承担责任的承诺,是一种相互关怀的承诺,是一种为使这个世界变得更美好而考虑更大利益的承诺)”可知,作者想通过他的故事告诉我们要永远做正确的事。故选D。
    C
Do you ever get the feeling that you are being watched? Well, you might be right.
According to a study published in Nature on June 23, astronomers have found that 1,715 stars have had a direct view of Earth since humans have been here.
In order to do this, scientists used a previous method that looked for life on other planets. But at last, they changed the method so it could try to determine what places could see us.
The team looked at 331,312 stars within 326 light-years of Earth, with each light-year equaling 9.4 trillion (万亿) kilometers. Out of all those stars, only 1,715 of them could see Earth within the last 5,000 years, with an extra 319 stars that will be able to see us in the next 5,000 years.
“When I look up at the sky, it looks a little bit friendlier because it’s like, maybe somebody is waving,” said Lisa Kaltenegger, director of the Carl Sagan Institute at Cornell University, US, and the study’s lead writer.
If a planet circling around one of those 1,715 stars is home to advanced life, they could easily see that there is life here because of the oxygen on Earth. If that didn’t give it away, then the radio waves we have sent out into space would also be a sign. In fact, human-made radio waves have already traveled through 75 of the closest stars on Kaltenegger’s list.
Why haven’t we heard from anyone yet, then?
It takes a long time for messages to travel between star systems. By the time a message could be received, that advanced civilization would probably not exist anymore.
Alan Boss, a scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science in the US who wasn’t part of the study, wrote in an email that this long time would limit the chances for different life to exchange “emails and TIKTOK videos”.
“So we should not expect aliens to show up anytime soon,” Boss said.
    8. Why did scientists change the research method?
    A. To seek alien life.
    B. To count the stars in outer space.
    C. To decide what places could view Earth.
    D. To measure the stars within light-years of Earth.
    9. How many stars will be able to see us in the next 5,000 years?
    A. 319. B. 1,715. C. 1,396. D. 2,034.
    10. What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 6 refer to?
    A. Advanced life. B. The oxygen on Earth.
    C. Human-made radio waves. D. A planet circling around one of those 1,715 stars.
    11. What could prevent humans from exchanging messages with aliens according to Boss?
    A. Aliens don’t exist.
    B. They cannot understand each other.
    C. It takes a long time for messages to travel.
    D. Human-made radio waves cannot travel far.
C 9. D 10. B 11. C
根据第三段中“But at last, they changed the method so it could try to determine what places could see us.(但最后,他们改变了方法,这样它就可以尝试确定哪些地方可以看到我们)”可知,科学家们改变研究方法是为了确定哪些地方可以看到地球,故选C。
根据第四段的“Out of all those stars, only 1,715 of them could see Earth within the last 5,000 years, with an extra 319 stars that will be able to see us in the next 5,000 years.(在所有这些恒星中,只有1715颗能在过去5000年里看到地球,还有319颗能在未来5000年里看到我们)”可知,在未来5000年有2034(1715+319)颗恒星可以看到地球。
根据第六段中的“If a planet circling around one of those 1,715 stars is home to advanced life, they could easily see that there is life here because of the oxygen on Earth.(如果这1715颗恒星周围有一颗行星是高级生命的家园,他们很容易就能看到这里有生命,因为地球上有氧气)”可知,因为地球上有氧气,所以他们很容易就能看到这里有生命,结合画线单词所在的句子“If that didn’t give it away, then the radio waves we have sent out into space would also be a sign.(如果这没有泄露,那么我们发射到太空的无线电波也会是一个指示器)”可知,地球上有氧气,所以他们很容易就能看到这里有生命,如果氧气没有泄露,那么我们发射到太空的无线电波也会是一个指示器,由此可知,that指代上文的“the oxygen on Earth”。
根据倒数第三段中“It takes a long time for messages to travel between star systems.(在恒星系统之间传递信息需要很长时间)”和倒数第二段“Alan Boss, a scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science in the US who wasn’t part of the study, wrote in an email that this long time would limit the chances for different life to exchange ‘emails and TIKTOK videos’.(美国卡内基科学研究所的科学家Alan Boss没有参与这项研究,他在一封电子邮件中写道,这么长的时间将限制不同生活中交换‘电子邮件和TikTok视频’的机会)”可知,根据Boss的说法,信息传播需要很长时间,这会阻止人类与外星人交换信息。故选C。
    D
A sleepover (过夜) program, which is designed to make kids believe that their favorite toys enjoy reading, can help encourage children to pick up more books, a new study suggests.
Toys sleepover programs are designed to get children interested in books. Children take their toys to a library for the night. At this point, workers and volunteers take photos of the toys which explore the library and read books. The next day, the children collect their toys and the photos of what the toys did during the night. They are given the books their toys chose to read.
It was found that before the sleepover the children did not spend time looking at the books in their play area at preschool. Immediately after the sleepover, the number of children who read to the toys was higher than the number who did not, but after three days the effect decreased gradually.
The researchers also tested a method for sustaining the effect. They reminded the children of the sleepover a month later, by hiding the toys and showing them the photos again the next day. This simple method brought an increase in the number of children reading to their toys.
The study proves for the first time that children who take part in sleepover programs read picture books to their toys more. “We wanted to know if there really was an effect, and if so, how long it lasts. Surprisingly, not only did the children show interest in the books, but they also began to read to their toys. This means that a new behavior pattern appeared that the children hadn’t had before. We did not expect anything like this,” said one of the researchers.
Reading is important for the development of children’s language skills and imagination. When parents read to their children, it is a passive way of reading for the child. However, when children read to their toys, it is a more active, self-directed way of reading, helping them develop into more active readers, researchers said.
    12. What is the purpose of the sleepover program?
    A. To develop children’s language skills.
    B. To help children to sleep well.
    C. To encourage children to read more.
    D. To guide children to form a good sleeping habit.
    13. What do children do in the sleepover program?
    A. Go around the library with their toys.
    B. Sleep with their toys.
    C. Read together with their toys.
    D. Take their toys to the library.
    14. The underlined word “sustaining” in paragraph 4 can be replaced by______.
    A. keeping B. testing C. surveying D. showing
    15. What made the researchers surprised after the study of the sleepover program?
    A. Children showed no interest in the books.
    B. The effect of the sleepover program could last long.
    C. Children began to read to their toys on their own.
    D. Whether the sleepover program had an effect remained unknown.
C 13. D 14. A 15. C
根据第一段“A sleepover (过夜) program, which is designed to make kids believe that their favorite toys enjoy reading, can help encourage children to pick up more books, a new study suggests.(一项新的研究表明,一项旨在让孩子们相信他们最喜欢的玩具也喜欢阅读的通宵活动,有助于鼓励孩子们拿起更多的书) ”可知,过夜活动的目的在于鼓励孩子们读更多的书。
根据第二段“Children take their toys to a library for the night. At this point, workers and volunteers take photos of the toys which explore the library and read books. The next day, the children collect their toys and the photos of what the toys did during the night. They are given the books their toys chose to read.(孩子们把玩具带到图书馆过夜。这时候,工作人员和志愿者拍摄玩具探索图书馆和阅读书籍的照片。第二天,孩子们收集他们的玩具和玩具在晚上做什么的照片。他们会得到玩具选择读的书)”可知,孩子们把玩具带到图书馆,阅读玩具选择读的书。故选D项。
    【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段“The researchers also tested a method for sustaining the effect. They reminded the children of the sleepover a month later, by hiding the toys and showing them the photos again the next day. This simple method brought an increase in the number of children reading to their toys.(研究人员还测试了一种维持这种效果的方法。一个月后,他们把玩具藏起来,第二天再给孩子们看那些照片,以此来提醒他们过夜的事情。这个简单的方法使孩子们对着玩具读书的人数增加了)”可知,研究人员运用给孩子看照片提醒他们过夜的事情,这样可以增加孩子读书的数量,保持过夜活动的效果。由此可知,“sustaining”可替换为“keeping”。故选A项。
根据第五段““Surprisingly, not only did the children show interest in the books, but they also began to read to their toys. This means that a new behavior pattern appeared that the children hadn’t had before. We did not expect anything like this,” said one of the researchers.(“令人惊讶的是,孩子们不仅对书表现出兴趣,而且还开始对着玩具读书。这意味着一种新的行为模式出现了,这是孩子们以前没有过的。我们不希望这样的事情,”其中一名研究人员说)”可知,孩子们在过夜活动之后对着玩具读书使得研究人员感到惊讶。故选C项。

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填人空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Most people assume that the human brain is set on “automatic”-that means it learns all by itself. ____16____ We need to train ourselves to actively take part in the learning process. These kinds of learning behaviours are called “active learning”.
Listen to the outer voice. There are two kinds of voices: the inner voice and the outer voice. Your inner voice expresses your personal opinions, while the outer voice tells you about opinions from what you hear. ____17____ If you keep paying too much attention to it, you risk missing important information. Instead, active learners are open-minded and focus on what the speaker is saying, not on what their brain is saying.
Asking questions is the easiest way to promote active learning. When you get information from someone, ask questions about the topic. The answers will lead you to further learning, and the act of working out questions will help you achieve a higher level of understanding. ____18____
Get to the truth. ____19____. They attempt to find the truth at the heart of each idea. Even when an idea sounds entirely unlikely, there may be an aspect of it that is based on truth. So if someone says dinosaurs still exist today, think about why they believe this.
____20____ Many people miss out on learning opportunities because they let their feelings get in the way. They ignore what is said because of who the speaker is. This goes the other way as well - do not just assume that some people are always right because of who they are or just because they are your friends.
    A. Focus on the message.
    B. This isn’t always true.
    C. This is human nature, after all.
    D. In short: Do not stop being curious.
    E. Active learners do not accept everything they learn.
    F. If you find your inner voice difficult to control, argue with it.
    G. Your inner voice can be useful, but it can also get in the way of learning.
B 17. G 18. D 19. E 20. A

    44. it 45. achievement
是on/upon doing,位于句首,首字母大写,因此空格处是On/Upon/After。故填On/Upon/After。

“Is this allIgot?” asked my daughter, Allison. “I asked for a new cellphone!”
“What kind of birthday is this?” asked my son, Blake.
Blake and Allison are twins. Every year, I gave them birthday presents. But they always felt unhappy about not receiving something on their wish list.
I knew I had somewhat spoiled(宠坏)them, but I had no idea it was this bad . I was in shock. How self-centered and unappreciative could my children be?
I was determined to do something.
I found a family living on a farm that badly needed help. There were four children in the family aged from three to eight. I began to visit them every two months.
Soon, Allison and Blake’s birthday was drawing near. I decided to introduce them to the new friends. One day, I woke the kids early and drove them to the farm.
When we arrived, I told my children to take two bags off the car, of which one was filled with food and the other with many boxes full of presents my children would never be satisfied with.
We were welcomed inside with smiles and appreciation. Obviously, Alison and Blake were shocked by what they saw. I could guess they had never expected people would live such a difficult life.
“Look! Presents for you. ”Allison was trying to make the kids happier.
With their parents’ permission(允许), the kids began to pick the boxes up, shake them, and guess what was inside. They were so excited. Allison and Blake encouraged the kids to open the boxes. They did. And there were shouts of surprise and joy: a model car, chocolate …then laughter. Then grateful hugs(拥抱)and sincere “thank-yous” .
At first Alison and Blake looked confused but soon joined the children. Before long, they were laughing, too, proud that they brought happiness there.
On the way home, Alison and Blake were a little quiet. When it was time to go to bed that day, my kids hugged me and said, “Thank you, Mum. ”
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

I agreed and offered to drive them to the farm.
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next year, with their birthday nearing, I asked Alison and Blake what presents they wanted. Alison and Blake exchanged a glance and said, “Mum, we want something special this time. ”They asked for my permission to shop the presents themselves. Strange as it sounded, I nodded. So on that special day, we visited the supermarket together. To my surprise, they chose items I had never expected:shoes, gloves, pens … I sensed something unusual. With everything ready, Alison asked whether they could celebrate their birthday with our new friends together.
I agreed and offered to drive them to the farm. I reminded them to call their friends first. After that we headed for our destination. The moment we arrived, the whole family rushed to meet us. My children got all the bags into the house, opened them, and unfolded all the gifts. It was then that our friends learned all Alison and Blake brought were gifts for them. Seeing the various gifts, they were moved to tears. I realized my children would never be selfish and unappreciative again.
