As the only woman competing in para ice hockey(残奥冰球) at Beijing 2022,Yu Jing, at the age of 38, caught people’s eyes in Team China’s 6-0 round-robin win over Italy on Tuesday.
Yu played over five minutes in the game which fittingly took place on International Women’s Day, becoming only the third woman in history to ever compete in the Paralympic hockey program, following Norwegians Brit Mjaasund Oeyen and Lena Schroeder in 1994 and 2018, respectively.
Para ice hockey is a mixed-gender sport, but world championships and Paralympic Games still tend to feature all-male teams due to the sport’s physically demanding nature.
Yu has had a passion for sports since she was a kid-even with polio(小儿麻痹症)causing a disability in her left leg when she was little.
In 2019, Yu took up para ice hockey. Similar to wheelchair basketball, para ice hockey involves players with various lower body disabilities sitting on sledges while pushing themselves along the ice with hockey sticks in both hands.
“It was hard at the beginning. It’s quite difficult to maintain balance while sitting on thin blades(冰刃)and controlling the puck,” Yu said.
She developed a serious disease on her right wrist because she pushed herself too hard. Icing her wrist has become a daily routine, not to mention frequent treatment for wounds on her shoulders and back.
However, nothing deters the sports lover. “In this sport, crashes are unavoidable. I am ready for whatever challenges come my way on the ice,” she said.
Yu expects to see more of her gender follow in her footsteps. “Women with disabilities all over the world, I hope they know it’s not impossible, and I hope they see this as encouragement,” she said.
24. Why did Yu Jing catch people’s eyes in para ice hockey at the Paralympic Games?
A. Yu got the most scores in the para ice hockey.
B. Yu won the most medals at the Paralympic Games.
C. Yu was the only woman competing in the para ice hockey.
D. Yu was the oldest woman participating in the Paralympic Games.
25. Which of the following can best describe Yu?
A. Honest and simple. B. Hardworking and inspiring.
C. Positive and smart. D. Kind and outgoing.
26. What does the underlined word “deters” in Paragraph 8 refer to?
A. Prevents. B. Strengthens. C. Defends. D. Relieves.
27. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Never Too Late To Learn B. Never Give Up
C. Fearless Yu Breaking Down Barriers D. Brave Yu Catching People’s Eyes

Modern science proves that a healthy lifestyle matters much to how long you can live and how well you live. Here are some tips for you to form a healthy lifestyle.
Keep a scientific diet. Keep in mind that sugar can be removed(去除) from our diet completely. Over intake (摄入量) of sugar is one of the main reasons for getting fat. Over intake of protein(蛋白质) or fat and low intake of fiber can also lead to getting fat. We only need a few grams of protein to keep our body in order.
Be always in a good mood. There is a relationship between the mood and health. A good mood keeps you in high spirits. Thanks to the Internet, we can enjoy and learn much without going out. Take a look at some online shops and pick up some bargains, enjoy music and movies and chat with good friends. Just keep happy.
Enough sleep. Two studies show the reasons why teens and adults don’t have enough sleep. With teens, a major reason is mobile phone use; with adults, it’s work. Everyone needs at least 8-hour sleep to recover(恢复) from tiredness and the hurt caused by hard work in the daytime.

28. Which of the following can lead to getting fat according to the passage?
A. Low intake of protein. B. Low intake of fat.
C. Over intake of fiber. D. Over intake of sugar.
29. The main reason why teenagers don’t have enough sleep is that they ______.
A. use mobile phone s too much B. have too much homework
C. eat too much sugar every day D. don’t have enough exercise
30. In which part of the newspaper are you most likely to find this passage?
A. Medical care. B. Modern science.
C. Health Report. D. School Experience.
31. The author wrote this passage to ______.
A. tell the readers how to take proper exercise every day
B. provide some advice on how to form a healthy lifestyle
C. ask people to care about their health rather than their work
D. make some surveys among those who have health problems
D
“Funny or die” has a whole new meaning, thanks to a study published in April in a medical journal. Women with a strong sense of humor were found to live longer although they were ill, especially for those with heart problems and infection (感染). Happy men seemed to be protected against infection.
The researchers reported the findings from a 15-year study on the connection between the sense of humor and death among 53,556 women and men in their country. The team studied the influence of humor on people’s way of thinking, social skills and emotion development, and examined death from different conditions: heart problems, infection and other health problems.
The findings showed that for women, those who had high scores on a humorous way of thinking had a 48 percent less risk of death from all causes, a 73 percent lower risk of death from heart problems and an 83 percent lower risk of death from infection. For men, a connection was found only for the risk of death from infection — those with high humor scores had a 74 percent reduced risk. The researchers suggested the sex differences could be due to a small decrease in humor scores as the men aged. No connection was found for the influence of rumor on social skills and emotion development.
“The humorous way of thinking plays an important role in people’s personality (性格) and may influence the way people cope with everyday life,” said study co-researcher Sven Svebak. “In this way, it may help reduce fighting in daily life, preventing the build-up of stress.” Although the sense of humor is a natural characteristic (特征), it can also be developed through social activities.
“I expect that children whose parents have no sense of humor when feeing challenges are less likely to develop their sense of humor to cope with everyday life when they grow up,” Sven Svebak said. “But if you had a humorless childhood, never fear — studies show people can learn to be humorous at any age.”
32. What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A. Joyful women can live longer than happy men.
B. Humor could benefit people’s health.
C. Women who seldom laugh may fall ill easily.
D. Humor makes people pay more attention to their health.
33. The reason for men having a higher risk of death from infection than women is that _______.
A. men become less humorous as they grow older B. men have poor memories as they age
C. men have bad sleeping quality as they grow older D. men take part in fewer social activities as they age
34. How does the author show the research findings?
A. By stating arguments. B. By giving examples.
C. By listing data. D. By making experiments.
35. Which of the following would Sven Svebak agree with?
A. Humorless people have an unhappy childhood.
B. Children must learn to be humorous at an early age.
C. Humorous people can better deal with pressure in life.
D. Parents with a sense of humor are better at child education.

Advocates of exercise have long argued that you can piece together 3 or 4 shorter sessions of 10 or 15 minutes of activity and get the same benefits as a continued hour workout, and it seems they’re right.
36 Those who said they usually worked out in short 15-minutesessions were judged to be just as healthy as those who worked out in one long session.
The study discovered that how energetic people exercised appeared to matter. 37 Therefore, anyone who wants to lower their risk of heart disease may need to follow the doctor’s recommendation of exercising for at least 30 minutes at moderate intensity four days a week, in any combination.
If your idea of exercise is picking up the remote, then walking a little every day will make you healthier and increase your chances of living a long life. 38 “When we say brisk, we mean a quick and energetic pace,” says Andrea Dunn. “We’re talking about walking at a pace of at least three and a half miles per hour. A brisk walk is the type of pace you’d walk when hurrying to catch a bus or rushing to get out of the cold.” 39 .
If walking is your preferred form of exercise, Dun n suggests planning a one-mile route. 40 If you cover the distance in 15 minutes or less, you’re walking briskly. “Believe me, we’re not talking about strolling down the boulevard(大马路), or stopping to smell the roses.”
A. And walking is good for your health.
B. Then clock yourself while walking one mile.
C. Walking fast enough that you get winded(气喘吁吁的).
D. But don’t fool yourself into thinking you can walk slowly and call it exercise.
E. Music makes you get rid of the idea of quitting a workout.
F. And it also discovered how much time they spent doing it mattered.
G. Researchers surveyed over 7,000 men in a study published in the September issue of Circulation.

The researchers suggested the sex differences could be due to a small decrease in humor scores as the men aged.(研究结果表明,对于女性来说,那些在幽默思维方式上得分较高的人,死于各种原因的风险降低48%,死于心脏问题的风险降低73%,死于感染的风险降低83%。

(Text 10)
W: I’ve always had a strong interest in acting and singing but when I started performing in plays and musicals locally, I realized that my true love was acting. It was a tough journey, but I worked hard and never gave up. I was turned down for different roles in nearby states, but I never let it get me down. I made up my mind to succeed, and it finally paid off. Luckily, I now work all around the world with some great people.
I made a mistake early in my job by trying to compete with other actors to get the best parts. I regret that now. I’ve learned that it’s better to support and help others instead of trying to outdo them.
Now, I try to find challenging roles that are different from what I’ve done before. I take risks and I am open to new opportunities. For example, I turned down a part in a film because I thought the writing was bad, and it ended up winning many awards. It was a tough lesson, but it helped me develop my present style.
I’m grateful to do what I love every day, with some great people. I hope to continue to grow and improve as I take on new and exciting challenges in the future.
