The teaching plan of Reading

Teaching aims

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. learn about different parts of a home;

2. learn about three kinds of homes in different countries;

3. understand what the home really means.

Teaching Importance:

1. learn something about the homes and lifestyles of foreign countries.

2. some important words and phrases:

Teaching difficulties: How to describe different homes.

Emotional aims: East or west, home is the best. Learn to love our home. Meanwhile raise their awareness of having a dream house to work hard to make our dream come true.

Teaching methods: task-based teaching and learning, situational approach, multimedia assistance, cooperative learning, discussion

Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead-in

T: Hello boys and girls, how are you today? I’m really happy to be here with you lovely guys！Today we will talk about different kinds of homes.

Step 2 Word study

1. Show pictures and learn the new words.

T: In the city many people live in this kind of buildings, we call it flat. Some people live here, we call it house.

Explain the words ‘flat’ and ‘house’ by using the pictures.

T: So where do you live now?

We all live in a flat, but my friend live in a house. He invites us to visit his room.

2. Learn different parts of a home.

Learn different parts of a home and talk about the functions of these parts.

3. Game show

Show some pictures about the rooms. If they can tell me the name of the room, just stand up and say loudly.

4. Fill in the blanks to know the function of each room.

Step 3 Listening

T: Just now you visit my friend’s house. Do you want to visit more homes around the world? Today, there are 3 students from different countries introducing their houses. Let’s listen and answer:

Who are they? Where are they from? 

Step 4 Listen and watch

Listen and watch the short video and then do the True or False questions.

Step 5 Careful reading

Read the text carefully in groups and fill in the blanks by discussing in groups.

Step 6 Game: I’m the teacher.

Make up more sentences about the text. Ask your classmates to do True or False questions.

Step 7 Scanning

Look at the pictures. Read each passage together and complete the sentences.

Step 8Jigsaw reading

Read the short passages by jigsaw reading.

Step 9 Listen and answer

Watch the short video and answer:

Where is my friend from?  (He’s from the United Stated.)

What’s his favorite room? Why?  (His favorite room is the living room. Because he can sleep, relax, read and play with the baby.)

Step 10 Interview

What is your favorite room? Make an interview and talk about your dream homes.

Act it out.

Step 11 Moral education

As the English saying goes: “East or west, home is the best.” Work hard and make your dreams come true!

Homework: Introduce your dream home.
