It’s always easier to say “Yes” because most of us want to please other people. Somebody asks you to go for a party but you have tests the next day, or to help them although you are busy at the moment, or to join the activities you have no interest at all! Even though your heart is crying NO, you find the word “Yes” come out of your mouth. However, it usually results in anger — not only for the person who asked you, but also for yourself for not being strong enough.
Lisa Messenger, the Collective Hub CEO, said in her first few years of business, many people asked her to talk over a coffee. Actually, she usually ended up having 20 coffee meetings a week and that stopped her from doing business because she didn’t have time to do her own work.
Messenger finally learned to refuse like “No, I’m sorry, but I don’t have time.” She believes if you say “Yes”, you will regret later. Or your heart will be filled with guilt, fear or anger because you feel bad for agreeing to do something you never want to. So you need to be brave enough to say “No” when you’re asked at first.
Janine Garner, CEO of The LBD Group, believed we need to get very clear about our goals. Unless we work towards our goals, nobody else will care about our time. Garner said, “We may end up saying ‘Yes’ because we feel sorry for somebody who needs us. But we end up having that awful feeling in our heart. You can only achieve the best of you by stopping doing the things that take up your time and don’t add anything towards your goals. Take a good look at the time spent on others, which you really should spend on yourself.”
48.The writer leads in the topic by_________.
A. telling a story B. giving examples C. doing a survey D. asking questions

A. knows how to refuse others politely B. always agrees to help her workmates

A. Offering help is the key to make friends. B. Helping others makes you successful.
C. People in need will care about our time. D. You’d better say “No” bravely if necessary.

The book I would like to talk about is The Merchant of Venice (《威尼斯商人》). The book is a dramatic work by Shakespeare, an English famous writer in the 16th century. It talks about something happening between merchants in Venice. The main characters are Bassanio, Portia, Shylock and Antonio.
The drama begins with Antonio, who helps Bassanio borrow money from Shylock, and then brings out other stories. Bassanio is a poor merchant. He needs money to follow his dream to marry Portia—a very beautiful and rich lady. He first wants to borrow money from his friend Antonio, also a merchant in Venice. Antonio borrows the money from a Jewish rich merchant Shylock. Antonio does much harm to Shylock before because Antonio really hates Jewish. Shylock is a little mean and loves money very much. He always gets interest from the people who borrow money from him. Antonio promises he will pay the money back in three months, or Shylock will be allowed to cut out 1 pound of flesh out of Antonio’s body.
Bassanio successfully wins the love of Portia but soon realizes his friend can not pay the money back to Shylock on time. Bassanio returns to Venice as fast as he can and attends a trial(审讯).The reason why Antonio isn’t able to pay is because his ships are caught in storm. Portia, dressing up as a young lawyer, claims (声称) that the words “ 1 pound of flesh” not “1 pound of flesh and blood”. She says that Shylock is only allowed to remove flesh, but not any blood, which is impossible. Thus, she helps make Antonio safe and make Shylock fail. At the same time, Shylock loses most of his money. At the end, ▲ .

The scientific method is used for simple experiments that students may do in the classroom or very difficult experiments that scientists are doing all over the world. It is a way of thinking that helps you to avoid drawing incorrect conclusions.
There are usually four steps in the scientific method, including observation (观察),hypothesis (假设), experiment, and conclusion. The steps may not always be completed in the same order, but the first step is usually observation and asking a question about your observation. For example, you had a sick stomach, and ate a candy bar. An hour later, you observed that you felt much better. Here, you can ask a question, such as, “What makes a sick stomach feel better?”
The second step is to state a possible answer to the question, or a hypothesis, such as “ ” A good hypothesis includes three things: The explanation for the observations, it is able to be tested, and it will usually predict new outcomes or conclusions.
The third step is the experiment, to test the hypothesis. An experiment is a test which will either challenge or support the hypothesis. The hypothesis will then be true or false.
The final step is to think about what happened when you tested the hypothesis and draw a conclusion. The conclusion will either clearly support the hypothesis or it will not. If the results support the hypothesis, a conclusion can be written and you can share it with the rest of the world. If it does not support the hypothesis, you may choose to change the hypothesis or write a new one based on what was learned during the experiment.
54. Which sentence best expresses the main idea of the passage?
A. How do the four basic steps in the scientific method work?
B. What makes a good hypothesis based on the observation?
C. The conclusion will always clearly support the hypothesis.
D. Learning the scientific method may help students succeed in science.
55. Which sentence should go in the empty box in Paragraph 3?
A. A candy bar makes a sick stomach feel better.
B. It was the medicine you took an hour earlier that made you feel better.
C. Eat a candy bar again, and see what happens to your sick stomach.
D. Ask people if eating a candy bar has made a sick stomach feel better.
56. What does the underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refer to ?
A. The hypothesis. B. The conclusion. C. The question. D. The observation.
57. Which of the following sentences about the experiment is TRUE?
A. An experiment is a test to always support the hypothesis.
B. An experiment does not have to be part of the scientific method.
C. An experiment is a test to either challenge or support a hypothesis.
D. An experiment is only used when scientists are trying to prove a hypothesis.

Procrastination (拖延) has influenced human beings for centuries. It is the act of delaying a task. It prevents you from following what you start to do.
Why do we procrastinate? The best way to understand is to imagine that you have two selves: Present Self and Future Self. Researchers have found that the Present Self and the Future Self are seldom in agreement with each other. The Future Self wants to be slim and fit, butt the Present Self wants a hamburger.
There are different ways to stop procrastinating. You can make the rewards of taking action happen at once. You can bring future rewards into the present moment. For example, only listen to audio books you love while exercising or only watch your favourite show while doing tiring housework.
Secondly, make the results of procrastination more direct. Make yourself pay the costs of procrastination sooner in many ways. If you exercise by yourself, missing once won’t influence your life much at all. However, if you promise to exercise with a friend, the cost of missing it becomes higher. It means you have to break a promise.
Another popular tool is to design your future actions. You can control your future eating habits by buying food in small packages rather than in the large size. You can stop wasting time on your phone by deleting (删除) games or social media apps.
Lastly, use the two-minute rule to start a new habit. “When you start a new habit, it should take less than two minutes to finish.” The idea is to make it as easy as possible to get started and then trust that momentum (动力) will carry you further into the task after you begin.
