Eurpean Unin member states gave final apprval Tuesday t a plan that wuld require all new cars sld in the EU t be zer-emissin(零排放)vehicles starting in the year 2035. It’s part f the EU’s plan t address climate change by reducing greenhuse gas emissins, and mre ambitius than similar effrts in America. The plan als requires that, by the year 2030, the average emissins f new cars drp by 55% and the average emissins f new vans drp by 50%, cmpared with vehicle emissins in 2021.
There’s ne majr warning t the plan. The Eurpean Cmmissin said it wuld carve ut a favrable plicy fr the cntinued sale f cars that run n e-fuels(合成燃料)past 2035 at Germany’s request, accrding t Reuters. E-fuels are made using captured CO2 emissins. Pland ppsed(反对)the new law, the BBC reprted, and Italy, Bulgaria and Rmania didn’t vte.

A cuple f weeks ag my parents came t visit me in the suthwest f France during my break. As a little surprise fr them I planned a trip t a small village in the Pyrenees Muntains called Niaux t see the famus “Grtte de Niaux”. My dad tld me s many stries abut the famus “grttes” f Suthern France: Lascaux, Fnt-de-Gaume and the Cave f Niaux. These caves cntain paintings drawn between 17,000 and 11,000 years ag! Advances in science and technlgy have enabled scientists and histrians t date the paintings accurately by carbn dating(碳定年法)and discver the tls with which peple used t draw the paintings, as well as the materials they used. My dad studied these caves when he was a cllege student, but he didn’t have the chance t see ne persnally. Therefre, I decided t change it!
Many caves that cntain prehistric paintings are n lnger accessible t the public. The carbn dixide that we breathe ut and the harsh artificial lights(人造灯光)quickly reduce the quality f the paintings, and fr many caves, nw visitrs can nly see recnstructins f the riginal paintings. Hwever, Niaux is an exceptin. By limiting the number f peple allwed in the cave at a time and limiting the artificial lights used t light the paintings, the paintings in Niaux have been well prtected s that visitrs can see the riginals. They were unbelievable! We saw paintings f bisn(北美野牛), muntain gats and deer carved n the walls as thugh they had been dne yesterday. They were actually drawn arund 14,000 years ag!
Many peple believe that these paintings were drawn as part f an almst religius ritual(仪式), while thers believe they represent the life experiences f the men and wmen wh lived in these caves many years ag. Maybe we will never knw fr sure why the paintings were drawn, but ne thing is fr certain—thse cavemen were far better at drawing than I am!
32. Why did the authr’s father tell him many stries abut the “grttes”?
A. His father was interested in them.B. They weren’t knwn t the authr.
C. The authr asked him t d s.D. It was his father’s duty.
33. What can visitrs nly see f the riginal paintings in many caves?
A. Shadws.B. Cpies.C. Mdels.D. Intrductins.
34. What makes the paintings in Niaux unbelievable?
A. Great skill.B. Gd prtectin.C. Gd quality.D. Dark light.
35. We can knw frm the text that ________.
A. this was the secnd time that the authr’s father had visited Niaux
B. visitrs dn’t knw the material used t draw the pictures in Niaux
C. nly the carbn dixide peple breathe ut reduce the quality f the paintings
D. visitrs dn’t knw clearly why the paintings were drawn
