    Mdal verbs一、 概述情态动词(mdal verbs),本身有一定词义,表示说话人的情绪、态度或语气的词。无人称和数的变化,只能与行为动词或状态动词构成谓语。情态动词:can (culd), may (might), must, have t (had t), ught t, shall (shuld), will (wuld)半情态动词(既有情态动词特征,又有实义动词特征的称为半情态动词):dare, need, used t, had better, wuld rather

    The past future tense
    Wrk ut the meanings f the mdal verbs frm the cntext. Then translate the sentences int Chinese.
    1. had better and ught tIt’s hard t tell what will happen t smene with a millin-pund bank nte. We’d better make a bet.We ught t find the perfect persn fr ur bet.
    Bth “had better” and “ught t” are used fr advice. Translatin: 很难说一个人手里有一张百万英镑大钞会发生什么事情。我们最好打个赌。打这个赌我们得找个最佳人选。
    2. must and can’tGet him his change? Yu must be jking. That can’t be true. It is £1,000,000!If yu lse the bet, yu must pay £20,000, and yu can’t eat yur wrds!
    The first “must” and “can’t” are used t express pssibility. The secnd “must” is used fr bligatin and the secnd “can’t” is used fr permissin. Translatin: 找给他钱?你在开玩笑吧?那不可能是真的。那是一百万英镑呐!如果你打赌输了,你得付两万英镑。你可不能食言啊!
    3. will and wuldA: The gentlemen have left fr the Cntinent, and they said they wuld nt be back until a mnth later.B: Will yu tell them I’ve been here, and that I will keep cming till they tell me what this is all abut?
    “Wuld” is used as a past future mdal. The first “will” is used fr plite request, and the secnd “will” is used as a simple future mdal. Translatin: A: 先生们离开去欧洲大陆了。他们说一个月后才回来。B: 您能转告他们吗?说我来过了,而且还会再来,直到他们告诉我这是怎么一回事。
    4. may and mightMay I tell yu a stry? What d yu think may happen t a millinaire in rags?Henry played a passive rle in the bet. What might have happened if he had knwn frm the beginning what it was all abut?
    The first “may” is used fr plite request, and the secnd “may” is used fr pssibility. “Might” is als used fr pssibility, but the actin is less likely t happen. Translatin: 我能给你讲个故事吗?你认为一个衣衫褴褛的百万富翁身上会发生什么事?在这场赌注中,亨利是被动的。如果他从一开始就知道这是怎么回事,会发生什么情况呢?
