Since I was born, I have been listening to music all the time. Not just any music, but the right kind of music.
It may seem strange to say that, but hearing good music played well by a big music group is something that a lot of people no longer experience. Most people are musically illiterate (了解不多的) simply because they have never had any chance to listen to good music. Many people are unfamiliar with the sound of a symphony orchestra (交响乐团). They only hear orchestra music while watching ads and films. But to me a symphony orchestra is the biggest instrument in the world. To hear a full symphony orchestra on stage and to feel the power of the sound — it is like a big wave. It is an amazing experience and it is one that I was lucky enough to grow up with.
My mother was a wellknown singer. She had been a member of the Vienna State Opera and the Budapest State Opera and as a baby I was taken along to concerts and stages. I was not necessarily listening to classical music but always good music played well.
My mother was the sixteenth child in her family. She was the youngest and by the time she was born, her oldest sister also had a child with whom she shared a bed. With so many loving families around her, my mother grew up happily to be a cheerful woman.
Because I lost my father when I was very young, I do not remember much about him. What I do know is largely what I have been told by my mother. I am like him in many ways. He was obviously a very serious man, always appearing sad. I seem to have inherited (继承) something of that from him. Fortunately, I inherited far more of my mother's happiness — a real show business personality (性格).

Diana Ross, American pop singer and actress, achieved international popularity, first as the leader singer of the Supremes and later as a solo (独唱的) artist. Diana Ross was born on March 26,1944, in Detroit, Michigan. She was the second of six children of Fred and Ernestine Ross, who lived in one of Detroit's poor districts. Because her family were closely connected with each other, Ross almost didn't notice the difficult life as she grew up.
Ross' professional career began in 1959, when she joined several neighborhood friends to form the Primettes. The group was renamed the Supremes after signing a recording contract (合同) with Motown late the following year. The group produced many numberone hit singles (热门单曲) on the US Billboard Hot 100, including Baby Love, Stop! In the Name of Love and Someday We'll Be Together. In 1967, the group was renamed Diana Ross and the Supremes, foreshadowing (预示) Ross'solo career, which she started in 1970.
Beginning with Ain't No Mountain High Enough from her first solo album, Ross enjoyed more than ten years of great success with her hit singles. Ross also developed a filmacting career in the 1970s, beginning with a starring role as blues singer Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues and continuing with Mahogany, for which she also recorded the theme song Do You Know Where You're Going To.
However, in the mid1980s, Ross saw her career begin to wane. Most of her albums were rerecordings of earlier material. In 2006, she produced I Love You, a collection of love songs by many artists, and she started an energetic concert tour the following year to make the album publicly known. Although you can't find her songs on the US Billboard Hot 100 now, Ross remains popular as one of the leading musical performers of all time.

Generally, the blues are often associated with unhappy things. For example, if you lose your iob, you might want to listen to the blues. Although the blues often deal with unhappy personal things, the music itself goes far beyond selfpity. The blues is also about overcoming hard luck, saying what you feel, ridding yourself of sadness, making you relaxed, and simply having tun.
The blues has deep roots in American history, particularly AfricanAmerican history. The blues began in Southern plantations (大农场) in the 19th century. Its inventors were slaves, exslaves and the children of slaves — AfricanAmerican sharecroppers (佃农) who sang as they worked in the cotton and vegetable fields.
The blues grew up in the Mississippi Delta just upriver from New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. Blues and jazz have always influenced each other, and they still influence each other in many ways today. Unlike jazz, the blues didn't spread out quickly from the South to the Midwest until the 1930s and 1940s. When the Delta blues made their way up the Mississippi to urban areas, the music developed into electrified Chicago blues, other regional blues styles, and various jazzblues hybrids. About ten years later, the blues gave birth to rhythms (节奏) ‘n’blues and rock ‘n’roll. No single person invented the blues, but many people said they had discovered different styles of the blues. For example, a bandleader, W.C.Handy insisted that the blues was first shown to him in 1903 by a street guitarist at a train station in Tutwiler, Mississippi.
During the middle to late 1800s, the Deep South was home to hundreds of important bluesmen who helped to shape the music. Unfortunately, much of this original music followed these sharecroppers to their graves. But the music of these earliest blues pioneers can still be heard in the recordings of 1920s and 1930s from Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Georgia and other Southern states.

答案:
Dear Mike,
How is everything going?
Our school will hold a music festival next month. I am one of the organizers. The task is a bit difficult because it is the first time that I have organized such an event.
You told me every year some interesting music events are held in your school. I know you are a music lover and have organized many music events. Would you please introduce some to me? Also, could you give me some suggestions about how to organize my school's music festival?
I'm looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
One winter Sunday, my little sister, Colleen, and I built the greatest snowman ever. We gave him a carrot nose, beautiful hat, cozy scarf and gloves. He was a masterpiece (杰作).
The next morning when looking outside, we smiled lovingly at him over our meal. We gave him a high-five as we passed by on our way to school. A lot of kids went past our house, so he was the hot topic at our school that morning. It was our pride!
The day dragged on until finally we could rush home. But as our yard came into sight, we saw something wrong. The snowman was gone! We only found a broken stick here, a torn glove there and balls of snow everywhere. Worst of all, the snowman's onceproud carrot nose lay limp (无力的) and halfeaten.
What had happened? We were both astonished and angry. But then, we were only kids, who wouldn't have anything taking away our happiness. Actually we knew only one thing: Our snowman would rise again. And so we rebuilt him.
The next day we came home to find another mess on the front lawn (草坪). For the rest of the week, the destruction was repeated daily. Each afternoon we'd return to find our snowman had fallen apart, and then we built again.
By Saturday morning, we had a plan. We borrowed a really big bucket (水桶) from Mom, filled it with water and left it outside. The next morning, it was frozen solid. We packed snow all around the ice_block as the base (底座) of the snowman. Then we built the other parts of it once again. The trap was set, and we waited for the snowman bullies (破坏者) to come.

答案:
Paragraph 1:
Monday morning, hiding behind the window, we soon saw what we were waiting for. It turned out that there were three of them from our school. They sneaked up on our snowman and sneered. Taking their places on either side, they pulled back their legs to deliver powerful kicks. But the moment they hit the hard ice_block of the base,_sneers (嗤笑) turned into shock, then agony (极度痛苦) and tears. They howled and cursed, gritting their teeth and stomping (跺) their feet.
Paragraph 2:
Seeing their pained look, we couldn't help laughing. They were too funny as they hopped away holding their damaged feet. We just couldn't contain our happiness and excitement. With a hearty laugh, we came out of hiding and sprang into the yard from inside the house. “An eye for an eye! Justice done!” We yelled behind them. And that was the end of our problems with the snowman bullies. Ever since then. our snowman was kept guarded and intact until it happily melted into spring water and finally wove into our sweetest childhood memories.
