The baguette, a lng, thin French bread, is being added t UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH,非物质文化遗产) list.
UNESCO experts gathering in Mrcc this week decided that the simple French bread—made nly f flur, water, salt, and yeast—was wrth U.N. recgnitin, after France’s culture ministry warned f a “cntinuus drp” in the number f traditinal bakeries (烘焙店), with sme 400 clsing every year ver the past half century.
The UN cultural agency’s chief, Audrey Azulay said, “the decisin hnrs mre than just bread; it recgnizes the ‘graceful skills f bakers’ and ‘a daily ritual (仪式)’.” Azulay added, “It is imprtant that such baking knwledge and scial practices can cntinue t exist in the future.”
With the bread’s new status (地位), the French gvernment said it planned t create a baguette day, called the “Open Bakehuse Day”, t cnnect the French better with their heritage. Bakers in France seemed prud, if unsurprised. “Of curse, it shuld be n the list because the baguette symblizes the wrld,” said Asma Farhat, a baker at Julien’s Bakery. “If there’s n baguette, yu can’t have a prper meal. In the mrning yu can tast it, fr lunch it’s a sandwich, and then it accmpanies dinner.”
Tday, France’s 67 millin peple still buy baguettes at a variety f sales pints, including in supermarkets. Accrding t France’s “Bread Observatry”, the French eat 320 baguettes f ne frm r anther every secnd. “It’s very easy t get bad baguette in France. It’s the traditinal baguette frm the traditinal bakery that is in danger,” said ne lcal resident, Marine Furchier.
The baguette jins ther fd n the Intangible Cultural Heritage list, which UNESCO says, celebrates “traditins r living expressins frm ur ancestrs (祖先) and passed n t ur next generatins.”

After a breakup, yu might think yu’re ding fine until yu hear a particular lve sng n the radi. N matter hw much yu’d like t stp thinking abut yur ex (前任), everything is a reminder f the relatinship. S, is it pssible t erase unwanted thughts?
The shrt answer is: maybe. But whether it’s advisable t d s in the lng term is a difficult questin. In sme situatins, it makes sense t suppress these unwanted thughts. In an exam r jb interview, fr example, yu dn’t want t feel distracted (分心) by the thught that yu’ll fail. And there’s evidence that it’s pssible t prevent these thughts, said Jshua Magee, a clinical psychlgist.
In a 2022 study, researchers shwed 80 vlunteers a series f cards shwing different nuns. Each nun was repeated n five different cards. As they viewed the cards, the vlunteers wrte dwn a wrd cnnected with each nun—fr example, “rad” in respnse t the wrd “car”. The researchers tld the first grup they had t think f a new wrd each time they were shwn a card. The secnd grup culd repeat as many nuns as they wished. With this methd, the researchers tried t emulate (模拟) what happens when smene hears that lve sng n the radi and tries desperately t think f anything ther than their ex.
The results shwed that when vlunteers saw each nun fr a secnd time, the first grup tk lnger than the secnd grup t cme up with a new wrd—suggesting that their first respnse flashed int their mind befre they replaced it. Hwever, vlunteers in the first grup gt quicker each time they viewed the same card, which shwed that the thught they were trying t avid was weakening.
Hwever, ther research suggests that aviding thughts can cause the ppsite effect. When we hld back a thught, we’re making the thught mre pwerful by attempting t cntrl it.
In the end, it might make mre sense t be careful abut these unwanted thughts and simply wait fr them t pass rather than aviding them.
    12. Why des the writer mentin “breakup” in Paragraph 1?
    A. T ffer a reminder f a bad relatinship.
    B. T shw influence f unwanted thughts.
    C. T explain the pwerful functin f memry.
    D. T share a painful experience f a breakup.
    13. What des the underlined wrd “suppress” mean in Paragraph 2?
    A. Accept.B. Organize.C. Prevent.D. Express.
    14. What can we learn frm the 2022 study?
    A. Unwanted thughts can be weakened.
    B. It makes sense t avid unwanted thughts.
    C. Peple stay mre fcused withut unwanted thughts.
    D. Aviding unwanted thughts causes the ppsite effect.
    15. What’s the best title fr the text?
    A. Can we cntrl ur mind?
    B. Shuld we mind unwanted thughts?
    C. Is it pssible t avid unwanted thughts?
    D. Is it advisable t erase unhappy memries?
    【答案】12. B 13. C 14. A 15. C
