Althugh we live in an era where everything seems t be available immediately, ur study suggests that tday’s kids can delay gratificatin(满足感) lnger than children in the 1960s and 1980s,“ said University f Minnesta psychlgist Stephanie M. Carlsn.” This finding stands in great cntrast with the assumptin by adults that tday’s children have less self-cntrl than previus generatins.
The riginal marshmallw(棉花糖) test cnducted by researchers at Stanfrd University invlved a series f experiments in which children aged between 3 and 5 years were ffered ne treat that they culd eat immediately r a larger treat if they waited. Researchers then left the rm t see hw lng the children wuld wait and watched frm behind a ne-way mirrr.
Interestingly, tday's adults thught that children nwadays wuld be mre impulsive and less able t wait, Carlsn fund. "Our findings serve as an example f hw ur beliefs can be wrng and hw it's imprtant t d research,” said c-authr Yuichi Shda, PhD at the University f Washingtn.
The researchers ffered several pssible explanatins fr why children in the 2000s waited lnger than thse in prir decades. They nted a statistically significant increase in IQ scres in the last several decades. Anther explanatin may be sciety's increased fcus n the imprtance f early educatin, accrding t Carlsn. The primary bjective f preschl changed frm largely custdial care (监护) t schl readiness in the 1980s. Parenting als has changed in ways that help prmte the develpment f executive functin, such as being mre supprtive f children's self-cntrl, the researchers nted.
Walter Mischel f Clumbia University, wh c-authred this paper, nted that “while the results indicate that the children’s ability t delay is nt weakened n the marshmallw test, the findings d nt speak t their willingness t delay gratificatin when faced with the many temptatins nw available in everyday life.”

Cmmercial aviatin (航空) alne cntributes arund three percent f ttal glbal carbn emissins (排放). But the industry is actively lking fr green slutins in the frm f sustainable aviatin fuel (SAF). In a study released this week, a team f researchers frm the U. S. Department f Energy’s Natinal Renewable Energy Labratry (NREL) details a methd f transfrming fd waste int SAF that can be used in existing engines. Making SAF is a mre cmplicated prcess—it’s gt t be very similar t the petrl-based aviatin fuel we use tday in cmmercial flights.
The researchers use vlatile fatty acids (挥发性脂肪酸)(VFAs) frm smelly fd waste and transfrm it int simple paraffin mlecules (石蜡分子) that can be used in fuel and really aren’t all that chemically different frm traditinal emissins-heavy fuels. There are ther renewable bifuels that have been made frm bimass (生物质), specifically il and fat frm vegetables and animals, but using the ever-munting pile f fd waste t fuel flights bradens thse pssibilities.
Derek Vardn, a senir research engineer at NREL, says majr cmpanies are eager t get invlved in SAF because sme sustainable slutins, such as battery-perated cmmercial flights, just aren’t pssible yet with current battery technlgy. A battery-pwered plane wuld be t heavy t fly lng distances—“S using SAF that wrks in the same way as the fuel we have is a simpler way t trade ut traditinal emissins-heavy fuels.” Vardn als says that “because the wet waste wuld nrmally g t a landfill and break dwn t release greenhuse gases, the prcess f making and using SAF culd actually have a negative carbn ftprint when it is dramatically used.”
A majr questin as the researchers mve frward with this type f research is if it is pssible t run an airplane engine n fully renewable bifuel. Rlls-Ryce recently did a test n ne f their engines with 100 percent SAF and it wrked. “This fuel is nt crazy and we can slve these prblems,” Vardn says.
12、Which f the fllwing is TRUE abut SAF?
A.It can be used t reduce carbn emissins glbally.
B.It’s less functinal than the petrl-based aviatin fuel.
C.It’s cmpsed f VFAs and simple paraffin mlecules.
D.It is virtually impssible t be made frm bimass like il and fat.
13、What is the fcus f Vardn’s wrds in paragraph 3?
A.The benefits f fd rubbish-generated SAF.
B.The envirnmental impacts f the wet waste.
C.The simple prcess f making and using SAF.
D.The future f battery-perated cmmercial flights.
14、What is the authr’s purpse f referring t Rlls-Ryce’s test in the last paragraph?
A.T prmte its prductin.
B.T cnfirm the ptential f SAF.
C.T shw ff its pwerful airplane engines.
D.T express dubt abut the research.
15、Which f the fllwing can be the best title fr the text?

Befre②mved③was lcated④wh/that⑤called⑥culd⑦int⑧what⑨written⑩smething
Then beginning in the 400s AD,可知应用一般过去时。
故填was lcated。
故填wh/that。
故填what。

解析:1.when改为since. It's been tw years的现在完成时态连用,引导时间状语从句I jined the campus radi statin,表示"自从",用since。
2.had改为have.
4.able前加being. 做介词fr的宾语,表示"能够",用固定短语being able t,所以able前加being。
6.yu改为I.
7.that改为what. 引导宾语从句I did,做从句的宾语,用what。
9.the改为a.
