M: Yes, I think you can use it when you study abroad in Spain next semester.
W: Oh, Richard, my plans have changed. I was hoping to study in Spain. But the program is one year long, and I prefer a six-month program. So I had to choose France.
M: Molly, you’ll love France! Well, I guess I will keep my dictionary. The truth is that you never stop learning a language, even when you think you have mastered it.
W: How did you ever learn Spanish? I failed in Italian last semester. So I’m worried that I will never understand French.
M: When I went on my first international trip to Spain, I was also very worried. But the best way to learn is by exposing yourself to the culture and the language.
W: Thank you for your advice. I’m looking forward to my trip to France.
M: Once you’re there, you’ll have too much fun to get nervous.

M: Look, there is a self-service store there.
W: I got into trouble there last time. Let’s find a convenience store instead.
M: Really? Self-service supermarkets are becoming popular now. You can go shopping without asking for help from the salesperson. It’s really convenient as far as I know. What happened?
W: Of course, it is not that simple. As a new user, I had to sign in first. That was a waste of time. What’s worse, customers are asked for their phone number. It’s possible for them to receive advertisement messages or calls, because their shopping data is collected.
M: Anyway, you don’t need to sign in this time.
W: Worse still, nobody offered help when I had problems. I was at sea with the functions of the product. If I had been in the convenience store, the salesperson would have given me a hand immediately.
M: OK. Let’s go along the street to see if we can find one.

(2022秋·浙江温州·高二校联考期中)We spend around one third of our lives in bed, and the body does a lot of its repair work as we sleep, so enough good quality sleep is very important to our health. It doesn't stop there, though—some sleep positions are healthier than others. So which sleep position is the healthiest?
Sleeping on your back is the healthiest sleep position, Health benefits include avoiding back and neck pain. Because the head is raised above the stomach when you sleep on your back, this position is best for people who suffer from nighttime acid reflux (胃酸逆流) as well. Around 80% of heartburn sufferers have problems during the night, so sleeping on their back could help a lot of people to enjoy a good night's sleep. If the sleep position alone is not enough to alleviate the condition, try raising the head of the bed by up to 4 inches by placing blocks under it.
When you sleep on your back, your face is in a natural position. This means less wrinkles (皱纹).
If you really can't face sleeping on your back, another healthy sleep position is the side sleep. It's almost as good as the back position, and it's better for people who snore (打鼾) and their partners. Whichever sleep position you choose, use a pillow that supports the head and the neck without raising the head unnaturally, as this can bring neck pain.
24.Which is NOT one of the benefits of sleeping on the back?
A.It can avoid acid reflux. B.It makes people look younger.
C.It's good for heartburn sufferers. D.It helps people get rid of stomach pain.
25.Which is the best sleep position for people who snore?
A.Sleep on the face. B.Sleep on the side.
C.Sleep on the back. D.Sleep without pillows.
26.The underlined word “alleviate” in Paragraph 2 probably means ________.
A.make it less serious B.make people forget
C.make it less useful D.make people enjoy
27.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.Ways to keep us healthy. B.The importance of sleep.
C.Sleep's repairing functions. D.Healthy positions of sleep.

    【答案】24.D 25.B 26.A 27.D

根据第二段的“this position is best for people who suffer from nighttime acid reflux (胃酸逆流) as well(这种睡姿对夜间胃酸倒流的人也很适用)”和“Around 80% of heartburn sufferers have problems during the night, so sleeping on their back could help a lot of people to enjoy a good night's sleep(大约80%的胃灼热患者会在夜间出现问题,所以平躺着睡觉可以帮助很多人享受良好的睡眠)”以及第三段的“When you sleep on your back, your face is in a natural position. This means less wrinkles (皱纹).(当你仰卧睡觉时,你的脸处于自然的姿势。这意味着皱纹更少。)”可知,仰睡的好处包括避免胃酸反流,让人看起来年轻以及对胃灼热患者有益,不包括D选项“可以帮助人们摆脱胃痛”。故选D。
25.细节理解题。根据最后一段的“another healthy sleep position is the side sleep. It's almost as good as the back position, and it's better for people who snore (打鼾) and their partners.(另一种健康的睡姿是侧睡。这种睡姿几乎和背部睡姿一样好,而且更适合打鼾的人和他们的伴侣。)”可知,对于打鼾的人来说,侧身睡最好,故选B。
26.词句猜测题。根据第二段的“Around 80% of heartburn sufferers have problems during the night, so sleeping on their back could help a lot of people to enjoy a good night's sleep.(大约80%的胃灼热患者会在夜间出现问题,所以平躺着睡觉可以帮助很多人享受良好的睡眠。)”及“try raising the head of the bed by up to 4 inches by placing blocks under it(试着在床下垫块,把床头抬高4英寸)”可知,划线词所在的句子表示“如果单靠平躺睡不能缓解这个情况,那就试着在床下垫块,把床头抬高4英寸”,因此划线词的意思是“缓解”,即make it less serious,故选A。
通读全文,尤其是第一段的“So which sleep position is the healthiest?(那么哪种睡姿是最健康的呢?)”

    C
(2022秋·浙江宁波·高二余姚中学校考阶段练习)Video conferencing has been around for more than 20 years. Until the COVID-19 pandemic, though, you would find that many people needing to attend a meeting remotely would be calling from a real conference room full of their teammates. Today, we’re routinely holding video conferences that are 100% virtual. And this is creating a problem that technology can’t fix.
The problem is us, specifically the fact that we haven’t evolved socially to the point where we can bear much separation. So much of our well-being and work productivity is decided on how close we are physically. The removal of that for any period of time can be severely damaging. One surprising victim of social distancing is laughter.
Normally people laugh about 18 times per day. And 97% of that time we’re laughing with others — we are 30 times more likely to laugh with others than to laugh alone. Think about it: how often when you and your friends laugh at something that is actually funny? Research shows that 80% of what people laugh at is really not that funny.
So why do people laugh? They laugh in order to laugh with others. Just as everyone starts yawning when just one person yawns, most people can’t help but laugh when those around them do. This is why TV comedy shows often use prerecorded laugh tracks.
Laughing in response to other people’s laughing is not just a behavioral phenomenon. When we laugh, our body produces two key chemicals: endorphin which helps relieve pain and sets off feelings of pleasure, and dopamine which can improve learning, motivation and attention. In fact, studies show that people can stand 15% more pain simply by laughing for a few minutes beforehand. Laughter is also associated with higher motivation and productivity at work.
In today’s home-alone, virtual-team world, this is exactly what you as a team leader should be doing: for your team members to stay healthy and productive, you need to get them to laugh more and stress less.
28.What is the problem mentioned in the first two paragraphs?
A.A distant relationship. B.Unexpected social evolution.
    C.Decreased laughter. D.Removed social distance.
29.What can be inferred from the article?
A.Laughing alone is normal. B.Laughing is for fun.
C.Laughing starts with yawning. D.Laughing comes more in groups.
30.What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A.The motivation behind laughter. B.The chemicals regarding laughter.
C.The mechanism of laughter. D.The significance of laughter.
31.What would the author most probably discuss next?
A.How to boost laughter. B.How to better a team.
C.How to reduce stress. D.How to increase productivity.

    【答案】28.C 29.D 30.D 31.A

根据第一段的“Today, we’re routinely holding video conferences that are 100% virtual .And this is creating a problem that technology can’t fix.(今天,我们经常举行100%虚拟的视频会议。这就产生了一个技术无法解决的问题)”和第二段的“The problem is us, specifically the fact that we haven’t evolved socially to the point where we can bear much separation.(问题出在我们自己身上,尤其是我们的社交能力还没有进化到可以承受分离的程度)”和“One surprising victim of social distancing is laughter.(社交距离的一个令人惊讶的受害者是笑声)”可知,前两段提到的问题是笑声减少了。故选C。
根据第四段的“Just as everyone starts yawning when just one person yawns, most people can’t help but laugh when those around them do.(就像当只有一个人打哈欠时,每个人都会打哈欠一样,当周围的人笑时,大多数人都会忍不住笑)”可推断,成群的人笑得更多。故选D。
根据第五段的“When we laugh, our body produces two key chemicals: endorphin which helps relieve pain and sets off feelings of pleasure, and dopamine which can improve learning, motivation and attention. In fact, studies show that people can stand 15% more pain simply by laughing for a few minutes beforehand. Laughter is also associated with higher motivation and productivity at work.(当我们笑的时候,我们的身体会产生两种关键的化学物质:内啡肽,它可以帮助缓解疼痛并引发愉悦感,还有多巴胺,它可以提高学习能力、动力和注意力。事实上,研究表明,仅仅提前几分钟笑一下,人们就能多忍受15%)”可知,本段主要介绍是笑声的重要性。故选D。
31.推理判断题。根据最后一段的“In today’s home-alone, virtual-team world, this is exactly what you as a team leader should be doing: for your team members to stay healthy and productive, you need to get them to laugh more and stress less.(在今天这个独自在家、虚拟团队的世界里,这正是你作为一个团队领导者应该做的:为了让你的团队成员保持健康和高效,你需要让他们多笑,少压力)”可推断,作者接下来最有可能讨论如何增加笑。故选A。
    D
(2022秋·浙江·高二校联考阶段练习)Sleeping with a dim light like a television or nightlight is enough to the raise blood sugar and heart rates of healthy people, according to a new study. Light helps our body maintain an internal clock, but artificial light at night can interrupt the rest and repair that should happen during the sleep. New research suggests that even when our eyes are closed, a small amount of light can disrupt the way our bodies normally keep our blood sugar within a healthy range.
In the study published in Sciences on Monday, scientists asked 20 participants ages 19 to 36 to spend two nights in their lab. On the first night of sleep, the volunteers slept in a very dark room. For their second night of sleep, half of the group snoozed with a small light like the glow of television at night, or streetlights through a window—and half spent their second night in a dark room.
During the trial, all participants were connected to devices that measured different markers of their sleep quality. They were each connected via a special tube, allowing researchers to collect samples without waking the individual. Researchers also recorded participants’ heart rates and brain waves.
When the volunteers awoke in the morning, the team tested their blood sugar and found that participants that slept in rooms with a dim light spent less time in deep sleep. In addition to having slightly worse blood sugar control, the group exposed to dim light had a higher heart rate on average. “By comparison, those that spend two nights in the dark room had little difference in their blood sugar control. They thought they slept well, but your brain knows that the lights are on,” says Zee, “you should clearly pay attention to the light in your bedroom. If you can’t give up your night light, keep it dim and at floor level.”
Earlier work has linked exposure to light during sleep to an increased risk of obesity in women. Zee recommends, “make sure that you start dimming your lights at least an hour or two before you go to bed to prepare your environment for sleep.”

(2022秋·浙江·高二校联考阶段练习)Everyday we see hundreds of marketing messages. Advertising has become part of modern life. But what is advertising exactly? In short, it refers to the activity of promoting a product or service.
36 From the ancient simple advertisements painted on outdoor signs to the colourful, interactive ones in smartphone apps, advertising and the mass media have developed hand in hand.
Because the mass media reaches so many people, it is a perfect vehicle for advertisers. If an advertisement is placed on a popular website or on TV at peak times, a huge number of people will know about the product or service it is advertising. 37 That is why when a company wants to promote a product or service, it often launches a mass media advertising campaign.
Based on the psychology behind creating a desire to buy, advertisers have developed ways of persuading people into purchasing their products or services. A common technique to make an impact is to create a memorable slogan. 38 Some of these slogans may also appeal to our emotions. For example, a slogan may connect a fine china teapot it aims to promote with our pride in having good taste. A slogan which communicates an idea effectively can boost sales and even become part of popular culture.
Another technique advertisers often employ is to link their company or product to a “brand ambassador”— a famous actor, a sports star, or even a fictional character. Think of a popular fast-food restaurant. Does it have a brand ambassador? Is the brand ambassador popular among potential customers? 39
Product placement (植入) is typically used in films and TV shows. Some films are now sponsored by leading brands, so that only their products appear in the film. 40 We absorb these marketing messages without thinking about them too much, yet they will probably have an effect on us the next time we go shopping.
A.Slogans use simple but impressive language to make us remember the product or service.
B.In addition, a successful advertisement will also create a desire to buy, thus promoting business.
C.The more we like the brand ambassador, the more we will be attracted to buy the product.
D.The history of advertising has been closely linked with that of the mass media.
E.Now advertising is becoming more digital and more personal.
F.Other types of mass media use product placement too, including video games.
G.Some big manufacturers spend billions of dollars a year on advertising.

It’s time we did something to change the situation. From my perspective, everyone is responsible for the beauty of our campus.
I love to play the piano and I greatly enjoy performing my songs, so when the annual winter recital was canceled, I was disappointed. I had looked forward to it for a long time and had already prepared two of my best songs.
My mom had a wonderful idea, however, to turn this disappointing letdown into something worthwhile. “You can perform your songs at Carriage House Senior Living,” my mom suggested brightly. “I’m sure the seniors there who do not have families visit them that often, would really appreciate the music and you could play more than just two songs.”
I immediately thought this was a great idea. One of the things I did not like about the recitals was that I was limited to playing just a couple of songs. Playing the piano at Carriage House seemed like a win-win situation because not only would I get to play more songs, but I would also have the chance to cheer up the residents there with some lively tunes.
My mom called Carriage House and made arrangements for me to perform. In the coming days, I worked especially hard to polish up fifteen pieces that I thought the crowd would enjoy, including many old classics.
When the much-anticipated day finally arrived, my family and I drove to Carriage House. Walking through the enormous double doors, we stepped into an entryway that overlooked the spacious grand dining room. Right at the entrance to the dining room stood the piano as if it were just waiting to make some music to liven the place up a bit. At nearly every table several gray-haired women or men were seated enjoying their dinner and the company that the crowded room provided. Despite the conversations going on at various tables though, isolation hung like a dark cloud in the room.
Almost immediately, we were greeted by an old woman with a walker who introduced herself as Phyllis in charge of Carriage House. She welcomed me and led me to the stage.
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
As I sat down on the bench, I pressed a key on the piano and was surprised to hear no sound.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Nervousness melted away and I started to enjoy the performance with the old.
    ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As I sat down on the bench, I pressed a key on the piano and was surprised to hear no sound. Feeling as if the whole world was watching me, I was struck dead with embarrassment. How could I perform the song without the piano? I was on pins and needles when Phyllis slowly made her way to the front of the crowd of dinners and announced in a comforting tone, “This girl has come to sing for us but the piano seems to be a little nervous.” Almost immediately, there was scattered applause and several people stepped forward to help me plug in the piano and set the microphone. With everything ready, I took a deep breath and commenced my performance.
Nervousness melted away and I started to enjoy the performance with the old. One woman got up and began to animatedly dance about the room. Some of the people swayed in their chairs to the beat of the music while others tapped theirs toes. The performance ended up with a storm of applause from the crowd. I realized that it was far better than a piano recital because almost everyone seemed to truly appreciate my music and I’ m proud that I have the power to spread kindness to them. It ended up being a blessing in disguise that the recital was canceled, leading to me sharing the gift of music with those who needed it most.
    ①表演:perform /show
    ②.宣布:announce /declare
    ①.尴尬:embarrassment /awkward
②.紧张的:nervous /intense/ be on pins and needles
I was on pins and needles when Phyllis slowly made her way to the front of the crowd of dinners and announced in a comforting tone(运用了when引导的时间状语从句)
[高分句型2] I realized that it was far better than a piano recital because almost everyone seemed to truly appreciate my music.
