All fruits cntain sugars and dn’t seem t have harmful effects unless they cntribute t excess(过量的)daily calries. This is because the fiber which is fund in whle fruit is undamaged, and the sugar is cntained within the fruit’s cells. It takes ur digestive system a while t break these cells dwn and fr sugar t enter the bldstream.
This is nt the case with fruit juiceDifferent frm whle fruit, the natural sugar in fruit juice cunts as “free sugars”,just like hney and added sugars. With the fiber remved, fruit juice’s sugar is absrbed mre quickly.A sudden rise f bld sugar causes the pancreas(胰腺)t release insulin(胰岛素)t bring it back dwn t a nrmal level.Over time, this system can wear ut,increasing the risk f develping type-2 diabetes(糖尿病).
In 2013,after analysing the health data f 100,000 peple cllected bet ween 1986 and 2009,researchers fund that fruit juice cnsumptin was linked with increased risk f type-2 diabetes. They’ve cncluded that even when fruit juice is similar in the nutritinal cntent t whle fruit, fruit juice leads t faster and larger changes in insulin levels since liquids pass thrugh the stmach faster than slids.
“Althugh fruit juice is better than n fruit at all, there are lts f limits,” said Dr.Amy Smith, prfessr f medicine at the University f Virginia.“It particularly cmes with risks when we cnsume mre than I50ml f free sugars per day,r when it puts us ver ur recmmended calrie intake. It prvides us with vitamins - but fruit juice is far frm a quick fix.”
8. What leads t the increasing fruit juice ppularity?
A. Experts’ recmmendatin.B. Its bvius medical effects.
C. Its assumed benefits t health.D. Peple’s imprved life quality.
9. Why is whle fruit healthier?
A. It prvides better nutritin.B. Its fiber slws sugar absrptin.
C. It prtects ur digestive system.D. Its fiber helps remve extra sugar.
10. Hw did researchers draw the cnclusin in 2013?
A. By bserving the bld sugar level.
B. By cmparing liquid and slid intake.
C. By analysing previusly cllected data.
D. By interviewing type-2 diabetes patients.
11. What is Dr. Smith’s attitude t fruit juice?
A. Psitive.B. Negative.C. Objective.D. Unclear.
