They develped in areas with cmparable climates and reflected their wrldview thrugh related symbls. “In the end, man is still man, independent f time and space. What we have is that, at this latitude (纬度), bth the Shu peple and the Mayans lked at the same sky and had the same stars n the hrizn,” the expert says.

Cperatin between Chinese and Mexican archaelgists culd benefit prjects in the Mayan wrld, where the rainy climate and humidity are prblematic fr the cnservatin f ruins.
“Every time ur cultural knwledge increases, regardless f whether we speak ne language r anther, what it shws us is that we cntinue t be sister cultures and, therefre, the exchange f such knwledge is fundamental,” says Sants.

Tw years ag, enrmus fires swept thrugh sme 46 millin acres f frest in Russia, the cuntry’s wrst fire seasn n recrd. Nw, researchers have a clearer sense f just hw significant the 2021 breal (北方的) frest fires were in terms f emissins. The fires prduced mre planet-heating carbn dixide than any ther extreme fire event that has ccurred since the turn f the 21st century, accrding t a study.
Breal frests grw where it is very cld. The trees that live in this type f frest grw slwly and seal (封存) carbn in their trunks and rts fr hundreds f years, including a cllectin f trapped emissins that researchers call a carbn sink. But rising temperatures and related drught in these histrically cl regins have led t an increase in extreme wildfire activity and threaten t release the carbn stred in the trees that grw there, transfrming a carbn sink int a carbn surce.
In all, fires in breal frests released the carbn sink and prduced nearly half a billin tns f carbn in 2021. That’s mre carbn than the entire cntinent f Australia prduced the same year, thugh sme f the emissins prduced by the fires will be reabsrbed as frests regrw.
The researchers gt the data fr their study by tracking cncentratins f emissins in the atmsphere using satellites, and then they put that infrmatin int a cmputer mdel t determine where, gegraphically, thse emissins came frm. They fund that breal frests, which typically prduce abut 10 percent f the glbe’s annual wildfire emissins, accunted fr 23 percent f the wrld’s wildfire emissins in 2021—mre than twice as much as nrmal.
Canadell, wh led the study, is mst cncerned abut the study’s main pint;Breal frests have served an imprtant and underappreciated rle in preventing carbn emissins, but climate change threatens t release that carbn. “We need t be very careful with these systems in terms f their future develpment,” he said.
    12. What is the functin f paragraph 2?
    A T explain the surce f carbn.B. T illustrate tw scientific cncepts.
    C. T indicate the seriusness f the fire.D. T shw the imprtance f breal frests.
    13. Hw did the scientists get needed data?
    A. By making use f technlgy.B. By searching n the website.
    C. By analyzing previus data.D. By turning t the firefighters.
    14. What is Canadell’s attitude t the future develpment f climate change and carbn emissins?
    A. Pessimistic.B. Optimistic.C. Indifferent.D. Cautius.
15 What is mainly talked abut in the text?
    A. The reasns fr the frest fires in the nrth.
    B. The impact f the 2021 breal frest fires.
    C. The link between fires and carbn dixide.
    D. The increasingly grwing carbn emissins.
