My hands were shaking uncntrllably. I tried incredibly hard t fcus n the wrds that I spent hurs putting dwn n paper. I tried t cnquer my fear f speaking in public n numerus ccasins thrughut my life. During cllege and at my first few jbs, I wuld get ridiculusly nervus when I had t give a presentatin r lead a meeting. Public speaking had been my nemesis fr as lng as I culd remember.
Then in my mid-thirties, I decided t jin the public speaking grup Tastmasters. At every meeting, we were rated and frced t cmpete with ther speakers fr an award. Yu wuld think that I wuld walk away frm these experiences as a plished speaker, but nthing seemed t wrk.
It wasn’t until recently, when science and scientific institutins were being attacked fr unfair reasns during the pandemic, that I decided I must speak ut. Science has made this cuntry a place where dreams cme true — this is why we all need t prtect science.
