此句叙述的是过去的事实情况，其中was是is的过去式，用来描述过去发生的事情。 be动词在一般过去时中的变化： （1）am和is在一般过去时中变为was。 （2）are在一般过去时中变为were。
（3）带有was或were的句子，其否定、疑问的变化和is, am, are一样，即否定句在was或were后加nt，一般疑问句把was或were提至句首。 例：My father wasn’t a cker. 我爸爸以前不是厨师。 Was yur father a cker? 你爸爸以前是厨师吗？
