He rubbed his hands nervusly n his clthes, but the mment he placed his fingers n the keys, he felt mre cmfrtable and his cnfidence returned. Althugh his masterly perfrmance at the pian keybard quickly made him an nline sensatin in China and verseas, Yi is nt the nly ne t benefit frm the pians in Huaqiangbei.
Inspired by the British artist Luke Jerram, wh has placed mre than 2,000 street pians in ver 70 cities wrldwide since 2008 with the wrds “Play Me, I’m Yurs” printed n their sides, the public pian prject in Huaqiangbei was launched by the lcal gvernment in 2018.

Previus studies have fund that the number f years spent in schl relates t cgnitin (认知) later in life, but few studies have examined the influence f educatinal quality.
“Our study establishes a link between high-quality educatin and better later-life cgnitin and suggests that increased investment in schls culd be a pwerful strategy t imprve cgnitive health amng lder adults in the United States,” said Jennifer Manly, senir authr f the study.
The study, led by Manly and Dminika Šeblvá, a pstdctral research scientist at Clumbia, used data frm Prject Talent, a 1960 survey f high schl students acrss the United States, and fllw-up data cllected in the Prject Talent Aging Study. The researchers examined the relatinships between six indicatrs (指标) f schl quality and several measures f cgnitive perfrmance in participants nearly 60 years after they left high schl. Since high-quality schls may be especially beneficial fr peple frm disadvantaged backgrunds, the researchers als examined whether assciatins differed by gegraphy, gender, race and ethnicity.
The researchers fund that attending a schl with a higher number f teachers with graduate training was the mst cnsistent predictr f better later-life cgnitin, especially in language fluency (fr example, cming up with wrds within a categry). Attending a schl with a high number f graduate-level teachers was abut equal t the difference in cgnitin between a 70-year-ld and smene wh is ne t three years lder. Other indicatrs f schl quality were related t sme, but nt all, measures f cgnitive perfrmance.
Accrding t Manly and Šeblvá, there may be many reasns explaining why attending schls with well-trained teachers may affect later-life cgnitin. “Instructin prvided by mre experienced and knwledgeable teachers might be mre intellectually inspiring and prvide additinal neural r cgnitive benefits,” said Šeblvá, “and attending higher-quality schls may als influence life track, leading t university educatin and greater earnings, which are in turn linked t better cgnitin in later life.”
( )28.Hw did Manly and Šeblvá cnduct the research?
A.By cnductıng surveys. B.By making cmparisns.
C.By explaining examples. D.By interviewıng the elders.
( )29.What is the result f the study?
A.The physical health determines yur future life.
    B.Gd educatin cntributes t gd later-life cgnitin.
C.Language fluency is based n pstgraduate training.
D.Gd schls shuld have many well-trained teachers.

A.T remind the public f senirs’ health. B.T lk int investment in schls.
C.T achieve the fairness f humans. D.T attach imprtance t educatin.
    ( )31.What is Manly and Šeblvá’s attitude t high-quality schl educatin?
    A.Favrable. B.Dubtful. C.Uncaring. D.Oppsing

Babies are surrunded by human language, always listening and prcessing. Eventually, they put sunds tgether t prduce a “Daddy” r a “Mama”. But what still cnfuses neurscientists is exactly hw the brain wrks t put it all tgether.
T figure it ut, a team f researchers turned t a frequent stand-in (代替) fr babies when it cmes t language learning: the sng-learning zebra finch. “We’ve knwn sngbirds learn their sng by first frming a memry f their father’s sng r anther adult’s sng. Then they use that memry t guide their sng learning,” said Neurscientist Tdd Rberts. “It’s been a lng-term gal f the field t figure ut hw r where in the brain this memry is. This type f imitative learning that birds d is very similar t the type f learning that we engage in regularly—particularly when we’re yung, we use it t guide ur speech learning.”
Rbert s and his team had a feeling that the interface (交叉区域) between sensry areas and mtr areas in the brain was critical fr this prcess, and they fcused n a grup f brain cells called the NIf.
“In rder t prve that we culd identify these circuits, we thught if we culd implant a false memry.”First, they used a virus t cause the neurns (神经元) in the birds’ NIf t becme sensitive t light. Then, using a tiny electrde (电极) as a flashlight, they activated (激活) the neurns. The length f each pulse f light crrespnded with the amunt f time the neurns wuld fire. And the birds’ brains interpreted that time perid as the length f each nte.
Sn enugh, the birds began t practice the ntes they had learned, even thugh they never really heard the sunds. Amazingly, the birds prduced them in the crrect scial situatins. The researchers say this is the first time anybdy has fund exactly a part f the brain necessary fr generating the srts f memries needed t cpy sunds.
“This line f research is ging t help us identify where in the brain we encde memries f relevant scial experience s that we use t guide learning. We knw that there are several neurdevelpmental disrders in peple that have really far-reaching effects n this type f learning.”
( )32.The zebra finch is researched because its sng-learning mde ______.
A.decides whether it will sing sngsB.helps it t say “Daddy” r “Mama”
C.is like the way babies learn speechD.reflects its talent fr imitating its father’s sng

A.The interface in the brain. B.Guidance frm adults.
C.The way f regular learning. D.Imitative learning type like birds’.
( )34.What can we learn frm the research led by Rberts?
A.Sme neurns were activated by the use f an electrde.
B.A new memry was implanted t generate new neurns.
C.A bird sang what it had heard befre.
D.Birds became sensitive t light due t new scial situatins.
    ( )35.What d the Rberts’ team expect f this line f research?
A.A change in ur way f listenıng and prcessing.
    B.Identificatin f neurdevelpmental disrders.
C.A chance t learn better with relevant scial experiences.
D.A better knwledge f the secrets f learning.

Taking a deep breath, I clsed my eyes fr a mment t steady myself. With cautin, I bent dwn and picked up the ln. It was astnishing that the bird remained silent and still, as if it thrughly beheved we had cme t its rescue. Inspired by my curage, Allan stepped frward t cut the line arund the ln’s neck with the scissrs, and then carefully remved the hk frm its flesh. With the task cmpleted, we breathed a sigh f relief.
As I placed the ln back in the water, it jyfully flapped its wings. Fixing its gaze n us, it rse up and frcefully struck its wings against the lake’s surface. It was reluctant t fly away immediately as if expressing its gratitude t us. Bth Allan and I were deeply tuched by its display. On the shre, Uncle Rick, wh had been watching the entire time, said, “Bys, I’m incredibly prud f yu bth fr yur lve and cncern fr the birds.” Cllabrating t help and keep that ln alive was undubtedly the mst remarkable thing we had ever dne. Bathed in glden sunlight, the lake shimmered charmingly, with birds flying freely abve the water’s surface-a sight that wuld be frever engraved in ur minds.
