Children are mre creative when they learn in natural surrundings, accrding t new research frm Curtin University. Primary schl students in Australia and England were put t the test t see whether writing petry in a natural utdr setting prduced mre creative utcmes than writing in a classrm, and the answer was yes.
Dr Paul Gardner and Snja Kuzich frm Curtin’s Schl f Educatin ran cmparative trials with 10-year-ld students in bth cuntries and the results, recently published in the Cambridge Jurnal f Educatin, gave a big thumbs-up t the psitive influence f natural settings. “We fund that students wh had direct cntact with nature by immersing (沉浸) themselves in a bush r frest setting were much mre descriptive and vivid in the language they used than the classrm-based writers wh ’imagined’ being in nature thrugh phts,” Dr Gardner said.
In ttal, 97 students tk part in the study, split (分散) acrss fur classrms, including tw based at an English primary schl and tw frm a primary schl in Western Australia. In each cuntry ne class visited a natural bush r frest befre writing a pem based n what they saw, smelt and felt. The ther class viewed a pile f images f the same bush r frest setting.
Ms Kuzich said the difference in creative language used between the classes was bvius with twice as many UK frest students using figurative (比喻的) language cmpared with their class-based cunterparts (相对应的人或事物).
