Previus studies have shwn that drinking mderate(适度的) amunts f alchl might have sme health benefits—but a new study published in JAMA Netwrk Open suggests that might nt be the case after all.
Researchers frm the Canadian Institute fr Substance Use Research at the University f Victria reviewed 107 studies published between January 1980 and July 2021 that invlved 4.8 millin participants.
They fund that drinkers wh cnsumed less than an unce f ethanl(酒精)—the frm f alchl fund in beer,wine and liqur—shwed n significant increase in lifespan cmpared t nn-drinkers.
“The paper prvides further evidence that the idea there are health benefits frm mderate alchl use is nt based n strng science,” said lead researcher Dr.Tim Stckwell,a prfessr at the Canadian Institute fr Substance Use Research,University f Victria.
A surprisingly large number f studies in the review cntained serius errrs,the dctr nted.“These studies make peple wh cntinue t drink appear healthy by cmparisn with peple wh stp drinking fr health reasns,” he said.“Dctrs shuld nt advise their patients t drink fr health reasns.”
Dr.Chris Tuell,clinical directr f addictin services at the University f Cincinnati Cllege f Medicine,was nt invlved in the study but said the findings were nt surprising.“N amunt f alchl is gd fr yu,” he said.
“The studies that have indicated that ne r tw drinks can prevent strkes are nt true,” the dctr stated.“Bld pressure and strke risk rise steadily if peple drink mre alchl.” The effects f alchl use are impacted by many factrs,Dr.Tuell nted.
Thse include a persn’s genetics,the bdy’s water cntent,the metablism(新陈代谢) f alchl in the bdy and any mental health issues.
“A small amunt f alchl can be just as prblematic fr sme peple,especially if alchl has been a ‘g-t’ cping mechanism(途径) fr life stressrs,” he explained.
