    Adverbial Clauses
    在复合句中,如作状语的是一个从句,该从句被称为状语从句。作什么样的状语就叫什么类型的状语从句,状语从句可以表示时间、地点、原因、条件、目的、结果、让步、比较和方式等。用从句来表达一件事情或一个行为发生的时间,这个从句就叫做时间状语从句。
    1. befre表示“在……之前”,如:
    He studied here befre he went t Beijing.他去北京前在这里学习。
    2. after表示“在……之后”,如:
    I will g ut t play basketball with yu after I finish my hmewrk.我做完功课后就和你一起出去打篮球。
    3. until 表示“直到”, 用引导一个时间状语从句时一般译为“直到才 ” 。如:
    He waited until all the peple left.他一直等到所有的人都走了。
    I didn’t g t bed until Mum came back.直到妈妈回家后我才上床睡觉。
    4. when表示“当……时候,那时” 表示一个动作紧接另一个动作发生或表示一个动作发生时另一个动作正在发生; 如:
    I was ding my hmewrk when my father reached hme.我父亲到家时,我在做我的家庭作业。
    as sn as表示“立即;一…… 就……”
    5.由as sn as连接的时间状语从句,表示主从句所述两件事发生的时间相近。
    We began t wrk as sn as we gt there. 我们一到那儿就马上开始工作。
    6. while 表示主句的行为在从句行为过程中发生,由于从句表示一个持续的行为,所以从句中要用持续性动词或状态动词。
    I reached hme while my mther was cking supper.我妈妈在做晚饭时,我到家的。
    While he was waiting fr a bus, he was reading a newspaper.他一边等车一边看报。
