With the supprt f his parents and the right schl, Flink graduated high schl and went t Brwn University. When he gt t cllege, he fund a cmmunity f students wh als had learning differences. Tgether with five f them, Flink started a mentring prgram fr nearby primary schl students wh had a learning disability. They called the prgram Eye t Eye.

It’s time t g back t high schl. Students are excited abut the new beginning. But fr many kids, the first day is mre abut friends than classes, and maybe with gd reasn. On that day, the teacher takes attendance, hands ut bks, and describes the teaching plan. If a student hears the same things in seven classes, yu can’t blame (责备) them fr thinking it’s ging t be anther lng year. When the high schlers’parents ask what they did in schl, it’s pretty likely that the answer will be “Nthing.”
It desn’t have t be this way. Last January, Jessica Jhnsn and Charltte Jenkins, tw ninth-grade physics teachers, suggested a schl-wide mvement called Make My Day t imprve the first day f classes, and many teachers have changed their plan fr the first class f a new term because f this.
One English teacher asks students t write 77 wrds abut what they want t get ut f her class. Then she reads their respnses (回答) ut lud. She keeps the respnses until the last day f the schl year when she hands them back t students s they can see if they achieved what they wanted. After encuraging kids with a year-lng game, she begins the English curse.
On the first day f science, a teacher gives students 30 minutes t build smething t imprve peple’s lives. A histry teacher rganizes a debate n whether Swiss cheese is better than cheddar. In math class, anther teacher puts students in grups f three, and gives them six minutes t cme up with as many answers as pssible t the questin, “What is math gd fr?”
The new class activities are part f ur schl wide mvement t imprve the first day f classes. Many teachers chse t use creative ways t encurage kids frm day ne. And all students seem t enjy the changes. Schl unifrm may nt be my favrite clthing, but if I were given the chice, I wuldn’t thrw it away. Wearing a unifrm is an imprtant part f being a schl student.
“Unifrms shw that yu belng t an rganizatin. Wearing it says we’re all in this tgether,” Jasn Wing, head teacher at the Neale-Wade Academy, says. “Als, if yu wear yur unifrm with pride, it means yu are half way t being respectful (恭敬的) buying int what the rganizatin is all abut.” Ashley Harris, a twelfth grader wh has been wearing schl unifrms fr a whle year, tld that she felt prud when she said gdbye t her neighbrs every mrning. “I feel happy t study in Becnsfield High Schl. The teachers are wnderful. It’s pleasant that peple knw I am a student f the schl thrugh my unifrm,” she explained.
That said, a number f students think unifrms are “childish”. But sme peple believe that a schl unifrm can help students pay attentin t schlwrk. Maybe mre imprtantly, a unifrm means students dn’t have t wrry abut being laughed at by thers when it cmes t their clthes. In America, where mst schls d nt have a unifrm, abut 160, 000 children miss schl everyday because f fear f being bullied (欺负) by ther students. This might nt be directly cnnected t what they’re wearing, but having a unifrm can mean being safe fr many students wh might be bullied.
Althugh wearing a schl unifrm is less expensive than buying many ther clthes, unifrms can still be pricey. Many schls have their wn supplier (供应商), and wearing cheaper unifrms can result in punishment if the unifrm isn’t made by the supplier. Recently a meeting abut the cst f schl unifrms acrss England was held. The educatin minister David Laws said the practice f using ne unifrm supplier wuld end, which culd help families with the cst f schl unifrms.
Anyway, my unifrm might nt be what I wuld wear in my time, but it gives me a sense f belnging. Schl unifrm isn’t fashinable, but that’s exactly why I think it shuld stay.
11.What des Jasn Wing think f wearing unifrms?
A.It teaches students t dress smartly.B.It results in students being respected.
C.It gives students a sense f belnging.D.It helps students pay full attentin t study.
12.What can be learned abut Ashley Harris?
A.She is twelve years ld.
B.She is a tp student in her class.
C.She thught her schl unifrm ld-fashined.
D.She has been wearing schl unifrms fr quite a while.
13.What did the authr want t say by giving American schls as an example?
