    Languages have been cming and ging fr thusands f years, but in recent times there has been less cming and a lt mre ging. When the wrld was still ppulated by hunter-gatherers, small, tightly knit (联系) grups develped their wn patterns (模式) f speech independent f each ther. Sme language experts believe that 10000 years ag, when the wrld had just five t ten millin peple, they spke perhaps 12000 languages between them.
    Sn afterwards, many f thse peple started settling dwn t becme farmers, and their languages t became mre settled and fewer in number. In recent centuries, trade, industrializatin, the develpment f the natin-state and the spread f universal cmpulsry educatin, especially glbalizatin and better cmmunicatins in the past few decades, all have caused many languages t disappear, and dminant languages such as English, Spanish and Chinese are increasingly taking ver.
    At present, the wrld has abut 6800 languages. The distributin f these languages is hugely uneven. The general rule is that mild znes have relatively few languages, ften spken by many peple, while ht, wet znes have lts, ften spken by small numbers. Eurpe has nly arund 200 languages, the Americas abut 1000, Africa 2400, and Asia and the Pacific perhaps 3200, f which Papua New Guinea alne accunts fr well ver 800. Already well ver 400 f the ttal f 6800 languages are clse t extinctin(消亡), with nly a few elderly speakers left. Pick, at randm, Busuu in Camern (eight remaining speakers), Chiapanec in Mexic (150), Lipan Apache in the United States (tw r three) r Wadjigu in Australia (ne, with a questin-mark): nne f these seems t have much chance f survival.

    C. They develped very fast. D. They were clsely cnnected.

    A. Frmal. B. Mdern. C. Advanced. D. Pwerful.
    Hw many languages are spken by less than 6000 peple at present?
    A. Abut 6800 B. Abut 3400C. Abut 2400 D. Abut 1200
    What is the main idea f the text?
    A. New languages will be created.
    B. Gegraphy determines language evlutin.
    C. Peple’s lifestyles are reflected in languages.
    D. Human develpment results in fewer languages.

    “Think f a rubber band(橡皮筋). The first grup participated in a prgram f nnaerbic(无氧) exercise—balance training and weight training—three times a week. The secnd grup did high-intensity aerbic exercise under the guidance f a trainer fr fur r mre days a week. After tw years, the secnd grup saw remarkable imprvements in heart health.
    “We tk these 50-year-ld hearts and turned the clck back t 30-r 35-year-ld hearts,” says Levine. “And the reasn they gt s much strnger and fitter was that their hearts culd nw fill a lt better and pump (泵送) a lt mre bld during exercise.” But the hearts f thse wh participated in less intense exercise didn’t change, he says.
    “The sweet spt in life t start exercising, if yu haven’t already, is in late middle age when the heart still has flexibility,” Levine says. “We put healthy 70-year-lds thrugh a yearlng exercise training prgram, and nthing happened t them at all.”
    Dr. Nieca Gldberg, a spkeswman fr the American Heart Assciatin, says Levine’s findings are a great start. But the study was small and needs t be repeated with far larger grups f peple t determine exactly which aspects f an exercise rutine make the biggest difference.
    32. What des Levine want t explain by mentining the rubber band?
    A. The right way f exercising.B. The causes f a heart attack.
    C. The difficulty f keeping fit.D. The aging prcess f the heart.
    33. In which aspect were the tw grups different in terms f research design?
    A. Diet plan.B. Prfessinal backgrund.
    C. Exercise type.D. Previus physical cnditin.
    34. What des Levine’s research find?
    A. Middle-aged hearts get yunger with aerbic exercise.
    B. High-intensity exercise is mre suitable fr the yung.
    C. The mre exercise we d, the strnger ur hearts get.
    D. It is never t late fr peple t start taking exercise.
    35. What des Dr. Nieca Gldberg suggest?
    A. Making use f the findings.B. Interviewing the study participants.
    C. Cnducting further research.D. Clarifying the purpse f the study.

    主题立意:文章主题立意明确,内容指向的是勇敢追求自己梦想,勇于挑战自我。Kelly不仅关注自己的兴趣,而且勇于挑战传统观念,展现了坚定的决心和勇气。
    续写方向:根据文中的 "BOXING CLUB TRYOUT"、"Bxing didn't cme natural t Kelly" 和段首两句中的 "Then Kelly began her training fr the tryut, keeping it a secret frm her mm" 和 "The fllwing Mnday, results f the bxing tryut were psted",要求学生能够把握Kelly努力训练、参加选拔并最终成功的过程,以及她如何面对母亲的期望和支持。
    续写要点:
    第一段:
    Kelly进行拳击训练;
    Kelly在训练中所遇到的困难和挑战;
    Kelly参加选拔并展现出出色的表现;
    这段最后要提到“ bxing tryut “,以与第二段首句形成有效衔接。
    第二段:
    选拔结果公布,Kelly成功入选;
    Kelly向母亲透露秘密;
    母亲最终接受并支持Kelly的选择。
    评分时,主要从①内容的合理性、②语言正确性丰富性、③衔接连贯性三个方面考虑,具体为:
    续写内容的合理性、完整性、原文情境的融洽程度以及是否传递正能量。
    所使用词汇和语法结构的准确性、丰富性和得体性。
    上下文的衔接和全文的连贯性。
