Listening t an audibk (有声书) befre bed affects a persn’s brain activity after they nd ff as well as the cntent f their dreams.
Better understanding this effect culd help treat certain mental health cnditins by targeting memry prcessing during sleep. When we sleep, ur brain spntaneusly (自发地) “replays”, r reactivates, patterns f electrical activity that are related t learning t transfer imprtant new infrmatin t lng-term memry strage. It has been suggested that dreams may reflect this reactivatin, but exactly hw is unclear.
T investigate, Deniz Kumral at the University f Freiburg, Germany, and her clleagues asked 20 peple t listen t different audibks just befre they went t sleep. These included The Mystery f the Blue Train by Agatha Christie and Inkheart by Cmelia Funke.
Amng the participants wh remembered their dreams, the researchers culd identify which audibk each had heard frm their descriptins f the dreams. While the participants slept, the researchers als used an EEG (脑电图) cap that detects electrical activity t recrd their brain waves. This shwed that the wave patterns during the rapid eye mvement phase f sleep, when dreams ccur, were mre similar between thse wh had heard the same audibk than thse wh had heard different nes, suggesting that the listening experience shaped the brain activity.
Further analysis f the patterns revealed that high-frequency beta waves — between 18 and 30 hertz — were mst strngly assciated with the participants recalling the audibk-related cntent f their dreams. The findings suggest that daily life experiences can shape dream cntent via memry reactivatin, accrding t the researchers. But while dreaming may serve a distinct purpse in memry frmatin, it culd als be a by-prduct f memry prcessing.
“Daytime experiences are rarely replayed as experienced, but are almst always mdified r surface in different cntexts,” says Kumral. “Individuals with certain psychlgical cnditins r mental prblems might benefit frm tailred strategies that enhance memry prcessing r treat disrders f dreaming during sleep, ptentially cntributing t imprved mental and emtinal health.”
    8. What did the researchers ask the participants t d?
    A. Recrd their dreams every night.B. Wear an EEG cap during the day.
    C. Listen t audibks during the day.D. Listen t audibks just befre sleep.
    9. Why did Deniz Kumral and her clleagues d the research?
    A. T knw hw peple prcess infrmatin.
    B. T find ut the cntents f peple’s dreams.
    C. T reveal the secret f imprving peple’s memry.
    D. T investigate hw dreams replay patterns f electrical activity.

Maj Tim Peake has backed the idea f slar farms in space, saying the cncept is “becming abslutely viable (可行的)”.
Peake said the falling cst f launching heavy gds int rbit meant that such cmplex structures culd sn be sent t space, with the ptential t prvide significant pwer. Peake, the first British Eurpean Space Agency (ESA)astrnaut t visit the Internatinal Space Statin, said, “It bils dwn t hard numbers at the end f the day. Launching thusands f tns f hardware int lw Earth rbit is becming abslutely viable.”
The ESA has been explring the idea f space-based slar pwer plants, and cmmissined tw “cncept studies” earlier this year. It is hping t present a business case t the EU by 2025. Peake said the agency calculated that slar farms in space wuld be financially viable when gds culd be launched at a cst f $1,000 (£807) per kg r less.
He tld an energy tech summit last week, “S far, the actual csts have been abut $2,700 per kil. Launches using the Falcn Heavy can reduce that t abut $1,500 and the s-called Starship brings that dwn by an rder f magnitude t abut $300 per kil.”
The Falcn Heavy and Starship are rckets designed by Eln Musk’s Space X aerspace cmpany. The Falcn Heavy is already transprting gds such as satellites int space, while the Starship is in develpment. An unmanned test flight in April explded minutes after liftff. Unlike previus launchers, they are reusable and designed t return t Earth undamaged. This means there is n need t cnstruct a new rcket fr each launch, bringing csts dwn. The ESA’s Slaris prject aims t launch slar panels int space, prgrammed t rbtically link up with ther panels t build a slar farm.
While Earth-based slar farms are unable t generate electricity in the dark, space-based panels can harvest the sun’s energy cntinuusly. Peake said, “If yu can build slar farms in space, then yu can send that energy dwn t grund statins via micrwaves. It means clean, limitless energy frm space becmes an abslute pssibility.”
    12. What is the functin f the first paragraph?
    A. A definitin f slar farm.B. An intrductin t the main tpic.
    C. The backgrund infrmatin f the text.D. Presentatin f a new phenmenn in technlgy.
    13. What’s the purpse f listing figures in the text?
    A. T highlight imprtance f the task.B. T prve the task well wrkable.
    C. T tell the cst f building slar farms.D. T shw difficulties f building slar farms.
    14. Why are the Falcn Heavy and Starship rckets mre favrable?
    A. They are reusable and can reduce csts.
    B. They can transprt gds int space quickly.
    C. They are designed by a reliable and big cmpany.
    D. They have been used in many successful launches.
    15. What’s the advantage f space-based slar panels?
    A. They can generate electricity cntinuusly.
    B. They can send energy dwn t grund statins.
    C. They are prgrammed t link up with ther panels.
    D. They are mre efficient in harvesting the sun’s energy
