With the help f a student keen t practice her English, I reached the Chrsu Bazaar, and was impressed during my jurney t see Uzbek yungsters cheerfully give up their seats t elderly passengers. Lcated in and arund several large dmes, the bazaar prvided an exciting start t my hliday, the clrful natinal dress f the lcal wmen further enlivening the scene. The stallhlders ffered a vast range f gds, including meat, fruit, vegetable and car parts fr lcals and suvenirs, such as ceramics and textiles, fr turists.
The rest f my time in Uzbekistan was a cavalcade f sights and experiences, as I visited Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand. Each has its architectural masterpieces — msques, minarets and madrassas — but, fr me, the mst impressive was prbably the wrld-famus Registan Square in Samarkand. With magnificent madrassas n three sides, it is splendid by day and magical when illuminated by night.
Each jurney was varied and interesting: dry desert cntrasted with fertile areas where crps thrived. The weather, hwever, it was the first half f Octber didn’t vary: it was sunny and warm every day and chilly at night. Fr all but vegetarians, the fd was anther highlight f the hliday. Tapica pudding at breakfast came as a surprise but the hme-prduced fresh fruit and vegetables were delicius.
Ten days in Uzbekistan passed t quickly but I will always remember my first visit t this fascinating, friendly cuntry.

New research dispels (消除) the myth that the time f day yu eat yur biggest meal can help with weight lss-thugh eating earlier may still have health benefits.
Tw studies frm 2013 suggested that cnsuming mre calries early in the day and fewer calries in the evening helps peple lse weight. Yet a majr new study has fund that while the relative size f breakfast and dinner influences self-reprted appetite, it has n effect n metablism (新陈代谢) and weight lss.
T investigate the link between the size f breakfast and dinner and their effect n hunger, a team f researchers at the universities f Aberdeen and Surrey cnducted a cntrlled study in healthy but verweight peple. The participants were fed tw diets, each fr fur weeks: a big breakfast and a small dinner, and a small breakfast with a big dinner. We kept lunches the same. All study participants undertk bth diet cnditins s that the effect f meal patterns culd be cmpared in the same peple.
The results f the experiment fund n differences in bdy weight r any bilgical measures f energy usage between the tw meal patters. The nly difference was a change in the self-reprted feeling f hunger and related factrs, such as the quantity f fd they wanted t eat. Acrss the day, the meal pattern f big breakfast and small dinner caused participants t reprt less hunger thrughut the day. This effect may be useful fr peple lking t lse weight, as it may help them better cntrl their hunger and eat less.
As with all research, there were sme limitatins t ur study. We nly studied participants fr fur weeks fr each meal pattern. Past research has shwn the largest differences in the effects f early versus late energy intake after fur weeks. Hwever, the fact that neither calries eaten nr calries burned changed ver fur weeks shws that bdy weight is unlikely t have changed if the study was lnger.
8、What des the new research suggest?
    A. Eating earlier wn’t d any gd t yur health.
    B. It was best t eat a large meal at the beginning f the day.
    C. When t eat yur biggest meal is nt s imprtant fr weight lss.

    B. By cnducting a questinnaire survey.
    C. By bserving the behavir f the participants.
    D. By cmparing the impacts f tw meal patterns.
10、What difference may a “big breakfast” make?
    A. Peple are mre likely t feel hungry.
    B. Peple burn calries at a faster pace.
    C. Peple feel it easier t cntrl fd intake.
    D. Peple tend t lse mre weight in a mnth.
11、What is the authr’s attitude twards the result f the research?
    A. Objective.B. Dubtful.C. Critical.D. Indifferent.
Cral creates reefs, structures in the cean that supprt entire ecsystems. Hwever, climate change is threatening the existence f such reefs. The Great Barrier Reef has suffered fur bleaching events in the last seven years.
Cral bleaching happens when extreme temperatures and sunlight frce crals t release algae living in their tissue. This causes them t lse their clr and turn white. The experience greatly weakens the cral and can kill them.
Scientists wrking n Australia’s Great Barrier Reef have successfully tested a new methd fr freezing and string cral larvae — the very yung frm f the small cean animal.
The science prject in Australia invlves freezing and string cral larvae t use later fr rewilding. A new material called “crymesh” is helping the scientists in the effrt. Cral is frzen using a special methd called crygenics. This permits the yung animals t be stred until they can be unfrzen and placed in the wild. The prcess currently requires high-tech equipment including lasers and is cstly. But, the team in Australia says crymesh can d a better jb f saving the cral and fr much less mney. The mesh technlgy helps t stre cral larvae at-196 degrees Celsius.
The scientists used the crymesh t freeze Great Barrier Reef cral larvae at the Australian Institute f Marine Sciences, r AIMS. Wrkers cllected the cral during the animal’s brief yearly reprductive perid.
Mary Hagedrn, Senir Research Scientist at Smithsnian Natinal Z and Cnservatin Bilgy Institute explained, “If we can secure the bidiversity f we’ll have tls fr the future t really help restre the reefs.” She added, “ technlgy fr cral reefs in the future is a real game-changer.”
The crymesh had been tested earlier n smaller and larger kinds f Hawaian crals. A test n the larger failed. Tests are cntinuing with larger-size Great Barrier Reef cral. The tests invlve scientists frm fur rganizatins. Tgether they are part f the Reef Restratin and Adaptatin Prgram.
    12、What’s the passage mainly abut?
    A. A cmparisn f tw experiments.
    B. A new methd fr restring cral reefs.
    C. The Great Barrier Reef under great threat.

13、What’s the advantage f cymesh ver crygenics?
    A. It is easier t stre.B. It is less expensive.
    C. It freezes larvae faster.D. It is envirnmentally friendly.
    14、What’s Mary Hagedrn’s pint in paragraph 6?
    A. Peple can d mre abut the bidiversity f crals.
    B. The scientists barely have tls t help the reefs restre.
    C. The crymesh technlgy has changed the crals’ situatin.
    D. The mesh technlgy will play a vital rle in restring the reefs.
15、What can we infer abut the crymesh technlgy?
    A. Tests n larger crals are mre imprtant.
    B. It is ging t be applied widely t mre crals.
    C. Only scientists f AIMS are invlved in the tests.
    D. Mre experiments are needed t prve its efficiency.
