Researchers at the University f Alabama in Birmingham suggest that brainwave-sensing headsets (脑电波耳机), als knwn as EEG headsets, need better safety after a study which shws hackers (黑客) culd guess a user’s bank accunt passwrds by mnitring (监测) his brainwaves.
Nitesh Saxena, prfessr in the UAB, and his team fund that a persn wh stpped a vide game and entered int a bank accunt while wearing an EEG headset was at a risk f having his passwrds stlen by a bad sftware prgram. Saxena and his team used ne EEG headset that culd be bught by custmers nline t shw hw easily an ill sftware prgram culd eavesdrp n a user’s brainwaves. While typing, a user’s reactin crrespnds with his hand, eye and head muscle (肌肉) mvements. All these mvements are caught by EEG headsets.
The team asked 12 peple t type passwrds int a text bx as if they were entering int an nline accunt while wearing an EEG headset, in rder fr the sftware t train itself n the user’s typing and the crrespnding brainwave. The team fund that when a user entered passwrds, the ill sftware prgram culd make educated guesses abut the passwrds by reading the EEG data recrded. And it just increases the chance f guessing a six-letter passwrd frm ne in 500,000 t ne in five.
“With the grwing ppularity f EEG headsets and all kinds f ways they culd be used, they will becme part f ur daily life,” Saxena said. “It is imprtant t study the pssible risks with this new technlgy t raise users’ awareness t the risks and develp methds f aviding the bad attacks.” One methd suggested by Saxena and his team is t make nise anytime a user types a passwrd while wearing an EEG headset.
