Yur brain isn’t necessarily the same age as the rest f yu. Nw, it may be pssible t predict hw quickly a persn’s brain will age thrughut life based n tests taken when they are 3 years ld. A persn’s bilgical age may be a better indicatr f their health than their chrnlgical age (实际年龄). Brain age can be measured using brain scans and machine learning t determine if a persn’s brain lks lder r yunger than the average healthy brain fr peple f the same age.
T find ut if brain age might reveal anything abut a persn’s health in midlife. Maxwell Ellitt at Duke University in Nrth Carlina and his clleagues assessed the brains f 869 adults in New Zealand wh have undergne regular medical and cgnitive testing since they were 3 years ld. When the vlunteers, all aged between 43 and 46, underwent MRI brain scans, the team fund that their brain ages ranged frm 23 t 71. Thse with lder brain ages perfrmed wrse n tests f cgnitin. memry and IQ. The researchers als measured things like chlesterl and bld sugar levels t estimate the bilgical age f the vlunteers'bdies.
James Cle at King’s Cllege Lndn cautins that it will be difficult t make predictins based n a 3-year-ld’s test results. “Acceleratin r delay culd be psitive r negative.” says Cle. “If a 60-year-ld has a brain that lks 70, that’s bad, but if a 3-year-ld has a brain that lks 5, that might be a gd thing.” The team als asked ther researchers t guess hw ld the vlunteers were based n phts f their faces. Again, the respnses varied hugely with estimates cming in 20 years abve and belw their actual age. Thse wh lked lder als had lder brain ages. “It suggests that the utward signs f ageing are reflected by the internal signs f ageing,” says Cle.
“That desn’t mean that all lder-lking individuals will be n their way t dementia (痴呆).” says Ellitt. We dn’t yet have a way t treat brain ageing, but given the knwn benefits t the brain f healthy eating and exercise, these aren’t a bad place t start.
28.Why did Max Ellitt cnduct the experiment?
A.T test whether brain age might indicate a persn’s health in midlife.
B.T find ut if chrnlgical age shws a persn’s health in midlife.
C.T test whether a persn’s brain age is yunger than his chrnlgical age.
D.T find ut whether a persn’s chrnlgical age influences his brain age.
29.What can we learn abut Maxwell Ellitt’s experiment?
A.The 869 vlunteers, all aged between 43 and 46. are all frm Nrth Carlina.
B.The vlunteers have never experienced any regular medical r cgnitive testing.
C.Thse with lder brain ages perfrmed wrse than thse with yunger nes.
D.The vlunteer’s brain ages ranged frm 43 and 46 by MRI scans.
30.Which f the fllwing wuld James Cle prbably agree with?
A.It has been pssible t make precise predictins based n 3-year-ld’s test results.
B.Peple’s acceleratin r delay f brain ageing must be ne hundred percent negative.
C.The internal signs f ageing can reflect the utward signs f ageing.
D.It is nt a gd thing fr a 3-year-ld with a brain that lks 5.
31.What des the authr want t cnvey in the last paragraph?
A.It makes n sense t wrry abut such predictin t much.
B.It is urgent t treat brain ageing at nce fr it is a fatal disease.
C.Researchers are at a lss what t d with brain ageing.

Antarctica is knwn fr being a vast land f ice and snw, a place t cld fr mst life. Despite this, the cntinent is slwly starting t turn warm. Accrding t the Guardian, the Antarctic has registered a new high temperature fr the first time n recrd, prmpting fears f climate instability in the wrld’s iciest place.
On Feb 9, Brazilian researchers at Seymur Island reprted a temperature f 20.75℃ n the icy cntinent f Antarctica. It was almst a full degree higher than the previus recrd f 19.8℃, taken n Signy Island (西格尼岛) in January 1982.

Accrding t Brazilian sil scientist Carls Schaefer, the temperature was dcumented during a 20-year-lng research prject. The fcus f this prject is t study the effect that climate change has n the permafrst (永久冻土) within the regin. Permafrst is sil that stays frzen fr at least tw years. Althugh this is a first recrd high fr Antarctica, Schaefer stressed that “We can’t use this t anticipate climatic changes in the future. It’s simply a signal that smething different is happening in that area.”
But in fact, the last high temperature reading was in the 19℃ range. These higher temperatures can cause ice and glaciers in Antarctic regins t melt. The Antarctic peninsula (半岛)--the lng finger f land that stretches twards Argentina--is mst dramatically affected. Scientists saw glaciers that have retreated by mre than 100 meters in Discvery Bay where the snw melted in little mre than a week, leaving dark expsed rck. This melted ice leads t a rise in sea levels that can threaten the safety f castal areas. It’s believed t be behind an alarming decline f mre than 50 percent in chinstrap penguin (帽带企鹅) clnies, which are dependent n sea ice.
Like American writer Ernest Hemingway nce said, “The Earth is a fine place and wrth fighting fr.” We shuld d everything we can t help save ur planet. Otherwise, it may becme t ht fr us t fix.
32.What did Brazilian researchers reprt n Feb 9?
A.Seymur Island is the warmest regin in the Antarctic.
B.Antarctica hit a recrd high temperature f 20.75℃.
C.The average temperature f Antarctica ranges frm 19.8℃ t 20.75℃.
D.Antarctica’s new recrd temperature is a full degree higher than the previus decade.
33.What’s the main purpse f the 20-year-lng research prject?
A.T predict pssible climatic change in the future.
B.T mnitr Antarctica’s cntributins t wrld climate change.
C.T explain why the permafrst may cause glaciers t melt.
D.T examine hw the permafrst is influenced by climate change.
34.What des the underlined wrd “retreated” prbably mean?
A.mved backward.B.increased in size.
C.cvered a certain area.D.stretched in an ppsite directin.
35.What is the main idea f the last paragraph?
A.The Earth will be htter and htter.
B.The high temperature can cause ice in Antarctica melt.
C.Peple shuld spare n effrt t prtect the earth and the envirnment.
D.A rise in sea levels can threaten the safety f castal areas.

Let’s see. Firstly, paper shpping bags are better than plastic nes. Is it true? Actually, making a paper bag uses fur times as much energy as making a plastic ne and prduces mre greenhuse gases. S a reusable bag is the best chice. Secndly, when yu turn ff a device, it stps using pwer. Really? If yu turn ff the televisin r air cnditiner, it ges int the standby mde. Devices in this mde still use pwer. S t make sure yur appliance is in fact ff, yu shuld remve the plug frm its pwer supply. Thirdly, it’s better t take a shwer than a bath. True r nt? In fact it depends n hw lng yu spend in the shwer and hw large yur bath is. If yu spend mre than 8 minutes in a shwer, yu’ll use as much as water in a bath — abut 50 liters f water. S the key is t keep yur shwer times as shrt as pssible. I hpe all f yu can pay attentin t the things mentined abve in yur daily life.
