Health fd is a general term applied t all kinds f fd that is cnsidered mre healthy than the types f fd sld in supermarkets. Fr example, whle grains, dried beans, and crn il are health fd. A narrwer classificatin f health fd is natural fd. This term is used t distinguish between types f the same fd. Raw hney is a natural sweetener, while refined sugar is nt. Fresh fruit is a natural fd, but canned fruit, with sugars and ther additives (添加剂), is nt. The mst exact term f all and the narrwest classificatin within health fd is rganic fd, used t describe fd that has been grwn n a particular kind f farm. Fruits and vegetables that are grwn in gardens, that are treated nly with rganic fertilizers, that are nt sprayed with pisnus insecticides (杀虫剂), and that are nt refined after harvest, are rganic fd. Meat, fish, dairy and pultry prducts frm animals that are fed nly n rganically-grwn feed and that are nt injected with hrmnes are rganic fd.
In chsing the type f fd yu eat, then, yu have basically tw chices: inrganic, prcessed fd, r rganic, unprcessed fd. A wise decisin shuld include study f the reasn why prcessed fd cntains chemicals, sme f which are prved t be pisnus and that vitamin cntent is greatly reduced in prcessed fd.
Bread is typically used by health fd supprters as an example f a prcessed fd. First, the seeds frm which the grain is grwn are treated with a chemical which is extremely harmful. Later, the grain is sprayed with a number f very deadly insecticides. After the grain has been made int flur, it is made white with anther chemical which is als pisnus. Next, a dugh cnditiner is added alng with a sftener. The cnditiner and sftener are pisns, and in fact, the sftener has sickened and killed experimental animals. A very pisnus anti-fungal cmpund is added t keep the bread frm getting mldy.
Other fd frm the supermarket wuld shw a similar pattern f prcessing and preserving. Yu see, we buy ur fd n the basis f smell, clr, and texture, instead f vitamin cntent, and manufacturers give us what we want, even if it is pisnus. The alternative? Eat health fds, preferably the rganic variety.
8. What is the passage mainly abut?
A Pisns.B. The prcessing f bread.
C. Prcessed fd.D. Health fd.
9. What d all f the additives in bread have in cmmn?
A. They are all used t keep the bread frm getting mldy.
B. They are all rganic.
C. They are all pisnus.
D. They have all killed labratry animals.
10. What happens t fd when it is prcessed?

B. Vitamin is nt available after prcessing.
C. The vitamin cntent increases a bit.
D. The vitamin cntent is greatly reduced.
11. We nrmally buy fd n the basis f________.
A. rganic varietyB. beauty
C. refined cntentsD. clr and texture

An 18, 000-year-ld human genme has been sequenced as a cnsequence f genetic research f ancient African skeletns, revealing infrmatin as t hw the cntinent’s frmer peple lived, migrated, and reprduced.
In general, DNA cannt survive in Africa’s heat and damp fr lengthy perids f time, and researchers have never previusly sequenced a sub-Saharan African human genme lder than 9,000 years. The authrs f this new study, n the ther hand, regained genetic material frm six peple buried between 5, 000 and 18, 000 years ag.
They als lked at the recrds f 28 previusly reprted individuals fund at burial sites arund the cntinent, and these 34 peple were frm three unique surce ppulatins riginating in nrtheastern, central, and suthern Africa after studying their DNA. This means that the cntinent was riginally inhabited by three distinct grups wh must have lived in remte areas fr lng perids f time. The cmbinatin f these three branches, n the ther hand, suggests that genetic infrmatin was exchanged between the three ppulatins befre 20, 000 years ag.
Accrding t the authrs f the study, this prcess began arund 50, 000 years ag, because archaelgical recrds suggest an increase in the mvement f prducts ver great distances arund this time. Peple are thught t have started having ffspring with partners frm far-away places as trading netwrks grew acrss the cntinent.
Hwever, the genmic data shws that this lng-range DNA interchange began t decline sme 20, 000 years ag, implying that humans began reprducing with their immediate neighbrs at that time. Accrding t the study’s authrs, it may be due t the Last Glacial Maximum, when climate change may have limited peple’s mbility and pushed them t becme mre sedentary.
In a statement, study authr Jessica Thmpsn nted, “At first, peple fund their mates frm a wide gegraphic pl. Further dwn the line, peple valued partners wh lived clser t them and were perhaps mre culturally similar.” C-authr Elizabeth Sawchuk added, “Perhaps it was because previusly established scial netwrks allwed fr the mvement f infrmatin and technlgies withut requiring peple t migrate.”
12. What is the challenge f the DNA study in Africa?
A. Ht and wet climate.B. Limited technlgy.
C. T many cultural exchanges.D. Cmplex human genmes.
13. What caused the genetic infrmatin exchange arund 50, 000 years ag?
A. Climate change.B. Archaelgical recrds.
C. Trades with distant grups.D. Develpment in technlgy.
14. What is the meaning f the underlined wrd “sedentary” in Paragraph 5?
A. Stable.B. Diverse.C. Active.D. Reprductive.
15. What can we learn frm the ancient scial netwrk accrding t the passage?
A. Distant scial exchange was bming 50, 000 years ag.
B. Lng-ranged DNA interchange started t ccur 20, 000 years ag.
C. Cmmunicatin with peple frm similar cultures was always favred.
D. Migratin declined when scial netwrks fr infrmatin became mature.
