The stry abut hrses in Nrth America tld in several written histries is in need f an update, accrding t a new study. After examining ancient remains f hrses, researchers suggest indigenus(土著的) peples had spread the animals thrugh the American West by the first half f the 1600s—befre they met Eurpeans.
The findings line up with ral histries frm indigenus grups, which tell f interactins with hrses befre settlers arrived in their hmelands. Meanwhile, written Eurpean texts frm the 1700s and 1800s stated that hrses nly spread thrugh the area after 1680.

Researchers cmpared the ancient hrses’ DNA with that f mdern hrses and fund that the centuries-ld hrses had largely Spanish rigins. Tgether, the findings suggest hrses spread “frm Spanish settlements in the American Suthwest t the nrthern Rckies and central Great Plains by the first half f the 17th century.”
The findings als highlight the imprtance f indigenus ral traditins in understanding histry. “Our cultures have been s misunderstd fr s lng,” says c-authr Yvette Cllin. “T ften histry has been tld arund us, withut us.”
12. What needs t be updated accrding t the new study?
A. When hrses shwed up in the Americas.B. Wh intrduced hrses t Nrth America.
C. When Native Americans first met Eurpeans.D. Wh spread hrses thrugh the American West.
13. What did researchers find ut abut ancient hrses frm the remains?
A. They played a rle in natives’ life.B. They were brn with tth disease.
C. They were badly treated by natives.D. They had hardly any Spanish rigins.
14. What des Cllin think f ral histries?
A. They spread easily.B. They are f great significance.
C. They pass dwn traditins.D. They unite indigenus grups.
15. What is the passage mainly abut?
A. Written texts explain human-hrse interactins.
B. Oral histries help us understand Indigenus cultures.
C. New research rewrites the histry f American hrses.
