Plants prduce a high frequency clicking sund, and when shrt f water, r damaged, the clicks becme far mre regular. They als make different sunds, depending n whether they are thirsty r injured. “Each plant and each type f stress is related t a specific sund,” said Prfessr Lilach Hadany, wh led the research study.
Fcusing particularly n tmates, wheat and crn, the researchers placed the plants in a sundprf (隔音的) rm and recrded their sunds by micrphnes. Sme plants were starved f water, thers cut, and a cntrl grup was left undamaged. The researchers used an algrithm (算法) t separate the nises, successfully telling the difference between the sunds depending n whether they were dry r cut.
