Fr ver a decade, Zubin Kanga, a pianist, cmpser and technlgist, has changed the limits f the frms f musical perfrmances. He has bth rganized and perfrmed shws that have pushed barriers, with mtin sensrs, artificial intelligence (AI), live-generated 3D visuals and virtual reality amng the technlgical advancements used t unlck new pssibilities f music and perfrmances.
Kanga’s apprach t emplying cutting-edge technlgy was first infrmed by the relative limitatins f his chsen instrument. “The pian is a very accurate technlgy,” he says. “Frm the early 20th century till nw it hasn’t really changed at all. It’s an amazing instrument, but it des have certain limitatins in terms f the types f sund yu can create.”
One f the early wrks is Steel n Bne, cmpsed by Kanga himself. He perfrms the piece using MiMU multi-sensr glves. “I can put up ne finger, and that’ll prduce a particular sund,” Kanga explains. “And then I can cntrl that sund just by mving my wrist thrugh the air — I can d that with lts f different gestures.”
“Fr Steel n Bne, I’m actually playing inside the pian with these steel knitting (编织) needles, and getting all these interesting effects n the strings. Then I’m using samples f them. Smetimes I’m using live delays and perating them. The sund can change depending n hw my hands are mving. It allws me t make a very theatrical piece, and peple can see this immediate cnnectin between hw I’m mving — these very big, almst cnductr-like gestures thrugh the air — and the way the sund is changing,” said Kanga.

Althugh the average glfer is a bit lder, I started playing the game when I was 12 years ld. At that time, I was frtunate t have yuth glf camps available at my schl. A grup f friends and I practiced at these camps t be able t jin ur schl team and play against thers. (17) Afterwards, I was invited t play in my first amateur turnament. Then, I taught my dad hw t play while we tured the wrld fr amateur turnaments. We played at famus glf curses like St. Andrew’s in Sctland, which is regarded as the place where the game was invented. (18) Meanwhile, I played in turnaments like the junir British Open in England. Still, I had n idea where my athletic career wuld take me. Upn returning t the US, my dad became my manager and we invested all f ur time int the sprt. Then I wrked my way up t play in the mst essential turnament in the wrld — the Master’s Turnament.
