In fact, we all need t be reminded that mistakes r failures are just fine and that they are a huge part f grwth and success. Hwever, the cmmn and ppular belief is the ppsite. We must crrect this with ur children. We must encurage them t make mistakes because that means they are trying ut new ideas.

When learning a freign language, mst peple fall back n traditinal methds: reading, writing, listening and repeating. But if yu als gesture with yur arms while studying, yu can remember the vcabulary better, even mnths later. Linking a wrd t brain areas respnsible fr mvement strengthens the memry f its meaning. This is the recent finding f neurscientist Mathias and his clleagues.
As Mathias’ team describes in the Jurnal f Neurscience, they had 22 German-speaking adults learn a ttal f 90 invented artificial wrds (such as “lamube” fr “camera,” and “atesi” fr “thught”) ver fur days. While the test subjects first heard the new vcabulary, they were shwn a vide f a persn making a gesture that matched the meaning f the wrd at the same time. When the wrd was repeated, the subjects perfrmed the gesture themselves.
Five mnths later, they were asked t translate the vcabulary they had learned int German in multiple-chice test. At the same time, they had equipment attached t their heads that sent weak distracting signals t their primary mtr crtex — the brain area that cntrls vluntary arm mvements. When these signals were active, the subjects fund it harder t recall the wrds accmpanied by gestures. When the equipment sent n distracting signals (but still appeared t the subjects t be active), they fund it easier t remember the wrds. The researchers cncluded that the mtr crtex cntributed t the translatin f the vcabulary learned with gestures. This applied t cncrete wrds, such as “camera”, as well as abstract nes, such as “thught”.
The study indicates that the adult brain uses mtr areas t remember freign-language wrds. “I think we under-use gesture in ur classrms,” Mathias says. “Peple use it subcnsciusly, if they’re gd teachers and gd listeners, but we dn’t necessarily bring it int the class if we dn’t think abut it — and it culd be used mre ften and mre effectively.”
32.Which is clsest in meaning t “invented artificial wrds” in paragraph 2?
A.Technical terms.
B.Newly discvered symbls.
C.Wrds referring t the latest inventins.
D.Randm cmbinatin f letters with assigned meanings.
33.Why was equipment attached t subjects’ heads during the test?
A.T cunt wrds.B.T recrd emtin.
C.T influence brain activity.D.T give clues t questins.
34.What des Mathias think f the current use f gestures in classrms?
A.Irregular.B.Over-estimated.C.Misleading.D.Inadequate.
35.In which sectin f a magazine may this text appear?
A.Fashin.B.Lifestyle.C.Mind & Brain.D.Health & Exercise.

Find examples. Abstract cncepts can be hard t understand. It tends t be far easier t frm a mental image if yu have a cncrete example f smething. 38 On its wn, that cncept might be hard t remember. But if yu think abut a lemn r vinegar, it becmes easier!
Dig deeper. It’s hard t remember cuntless facts and figures if yu dn’t push further. Ask why things are a certain way. Hw did they cme abut? Why d they matter? Psychlgists call this elabratin(深究). It’s taking class material and asking many hw and why questins abut it. 39
Practice mre. Musicians practice their instruments. Athletes practice sprts skills. 40 In a study, students tk practice tests ver several weeks. On the final test, they scred mre than a full letter grade better, n average, than did students wh studied the way they nrmally had.
As a teen, Cynthia Nebel studied by reading her textbks, wrksheets and ntebks. “Over and ver and ver again,” recalls this psychlgist at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Nw, she adds, “we knw that’s ne f the mst cmmn bad study skills that students have.”

W: Gd mrning, everyne. Tday we’re ging t lk at the wide differences in family life between the rich and the pr in Victrian times. Let’s begin with the upper classes. In Victrian times, the upper classes made up less than 3% f the ppulatin, yet held mre than 90% f the cuntry’s wealth. Mst f their servants were very prly paid, but were always living in the hmes f upper-class Victrian families, s they didn’t have t pay fr husing, fd and clthing. The mney which they did earn, they sent t their families. Many servants came frm the cuntryside. Amng them were cks, cleaners, gardeners and s n. The family wuld als emply a child’s nurse whse main rle was t care fr the children. She was respnsible fr teaching the children hw t behave and taking care f them when they were ill. Nurses did nt, hwever, educate the children. Generally, children frm wealthy families didn’t attend schl utside the family hme. Tutrs wuld cme t the huse t d this. Nw, the Victrian upper classes have the reputatin f being quite cruel; but this wasn’t always the case. They were als quite generus. Sme schls were set up with mney frm the upper classes s that pr children culd have sme frm f educatin. Additinally, mst Victrian parents were very prud f their children. This ges against the cmmn idea that parents were very strict with their children. In fact, the ppsite was generally the rule. Hwever, the situatin fr lwer class families was very different. Let’s have a lk.
