Startled by the unexpected sight f a large glden dg,the girl’s eyes became huge and then her muth curved slwly int a smile.Puppy stpped directly in frnt f Diane and laid her head in the girl’s lap.I intrduced myself and Puppy,but Diane didn’t respnd.Instead,she began t silently pet Puppy’s head,running her hands sftly ver Puppy’s ears and nse.She was still bviusly nervus at my ffice,but she was smiling and seemed t be enjying her interactin with Puppy.I was speaking quietly with Diane’s parents when an idea hit me.

    I knew that I had t seize the mment.Sitting n the flr beside Puppy and Diane,I tried t engage Diane in cnversatin.Hping t keep the miracle ging,I asked her what she liked abut Puppy.She hesitated mmentarily and then replied,“She is sft and funny.” As we talked,Puppy sat leaning against Diane,the little girl’s fingers laced thrugh Puppy’s fur.As the sessin drew t a clse,Diane embraced Puppy again and said,“Gd-bye.” Her vice was sft yet clear.I was deeply pleased as she had made a remarkable breakthrugh. And it was all thanks t Puppy,wh had wrked her magic again.
