In the 1970s, philsphy prfessr Matthew Lipman develped a series f activities fr the classrm which he called Philsphy fr Children (P4C). The aim f these activities is t help children think fr themselves abut things that matter. The series includes different kinds f activities in which kids discuss different tpics: the envirnment, animal rights, and mre. Since kids usually spend mre time at schl than they d at hme, schl is a great place fr these discussins. The teacher's rle is t encurage the students t talk and express their thughts and beliefs, nt t give them the 'answers' – after all, these are the kind f questins t which there are n easy answers!
There is evidence that P4C really des make kids better thinkers and better students. But we thught that the prgram might als help with the students' mental health. T judge the influence f P4C n children's mental health, we asked three classrms t take part in ur study. Hwever, perhaps we culd expect an influence n children with clinical depressin (a very serius level f depressin).
