Step 1 Lead-in
T: Bys and girls, tday we are ging t learn Grammar f Unit 7. D yu knw these sprts? Can yu tell me their names?
S: Swimming, playing badmintn, cycling, hrse riding and flying kites.

Step 2 Presentatin
1. Use can r culd t talk abut ability.
(1) Describe what yu see in the picture.
She culd nt ride a bike at ten, but nw she can ride a bike.
The girl is skating. She culd nt skate last year, but nw she can skate.
We can als say: She wasn’t able t skate last year, but nw she is able t skate.
(2) Lk at mre pictures and use can/be able t/culd t describe them.
(3) Wrk in pairs and make up a dialgue accrding t the table.

T: Yes. We use can t talk abut present ability and use culd t talk abut the ability in the past.
2. Use can, culd r may t ask fr permissin.
T: Read the dialgues belw carefully and tell me what we use “can/culd” t talk abut.
S: We use “can/culd” t talk abut permissin.
T: Which ne sunds mre plite, can r culd?
S: Culd sunds mre plite than can.
T: Yu are right. In sme frmal ccasins, we use “may” t ask fr permissin. Fr example:
A: May I have a talk with yu, Mr Wu?
B: Yes, yu may.
N, yu may nt./N, yu can’t./N, yu mustn’t.
“May” is mre plite than “can/culd”.

B Using what and hw t express strng feelings
Step 1 Presentatin
1. The trip t Suth Hill.
T: The students’ trip t Suth Hill is wnderful. We can say “Hw wnderful the trip is!” t express ur strng feelings. The sentence is called Exclamatry Sentence.
2. Have a try.
T: Describe the pictures with what we’ve learnt tday.
Picture 1: The girl is pretty.
Hw pretty the girl is!
Picture 2: The by is playing basketball happily.
Hw happily the by is playing basketball!
T: The music sunds nice, desn’t it? Can yu say it in anther way?
S: Hw nice the music sunds!
T: Read the fllwing sentences again.
Hw nice the music sunds!
Hw happily (the by is playing basketball)!
Hw wnderful (the trip is)!
Hw pretty (the girl is)!
T: Nice, wnderful and pretty are adjectives, and happily is an adverb. S we can wrk ut the structure f the exclamatry sentence: Hw + adj./adv. + (主语 + 谓语)!

T: I watched a film called Jurassic Wrld yesterday. It is very exciting. Hw exciting the film is!

4. Have a try.

Picture 2: Hw fine the weather is!
What fine weather it is!
Picture 3: Hw beautiful the flwers are!

T: Read the fllwing sentences again.

S: What + a/an + adj. + 可数名词单数 +(主语 + 谓语)!
What + adj. + 不可数名词 +(主语 + 谓语)!
What + adj. + 可数名词复数 +(主语 + 谓语)!
