Tired f the busy and chatic life in Las Vegas, Nevada fr nearly ten years, my family and I decided t slw things dwn. We wanted t lead an envirnmental-friendly life.
Nne f us felt that this culd be accmplished where we were living and we all agreed that a mve t the cuntry wuld be great fr everyne.
Befre lng we set abut lking fr a hme in Yucca, Arizna, a very small twn f less than 1,000 peple. When I called t inquire abut the prperty, I was infrmed that there was n electricity available in the area. What? N electricity? I almst denied the idea immediately. But what better way is there t g green? After giving it a secnd thught, we decided t put in an ffer and mved in n Thanksgiving Day.
When we first mved t the prperty, we did sme remdeling (改造) and stayed in ur mtr hme. We were cnfrnted with real challenges at the time. But the frustratins just made us wrk harder. We slwly gt things fixed and mved int the huse after 38 days.
While living here fr the past fur mnths has been a big adjustment, there are many benefits t living ff the grid (电线). I think ne f the mst educatinal lessns is teaching my kids the imprtance f cnservatin. They used t take water, pwer and gas fr granted. Many believed it was physically impssible fr a human t run a mile in under fur minutes, but Rger Bannister prved that thery wrng with a three-minute, 59-secnd mile in 1954. Tday, sub-fur-minute miles are cnsidered rutine even in high schl. And Bb Beamn stretched human perfrmance in the 1968 Olympics with his histric lng jump f 8.90 metres. In an event where a recrd is usually brken by mere inches, he brke the previus jump recrd by mre than 21 inches, but even his recrd was brken in 1991.
