Chinese astrnaut s have successfully grw n rice seedlings(幼苗) abard the Tiangng space statin and this experiment may ffer key insights int hw astrnauts can grw fd t supprt lng-term space missins, experts said n Mnday. This experiment is the first t prduce the cmplete life cycle f the plant, which begins with a seed and ends with a mature plant prducing new seeds.
The breakthrugh was cnducted in the Wentian space labratry, which was launched int rbit n July24,2022. Three astrnauts were cnducting the experiment smthly and testing the plants accrding t the plan.
“The rice seedlings are grwing very well,” said Zheng Huiqing, a researcher f the task, adding that the experiment als cntained seedlings f a small flwering plant ften used by scientists t study mutatins(变异) “The astrnaut s will keep mnitring the plants, and if it is successful, they will cllect the newly prduced seeds and bring them back t Earth fr further studies,” she nted.
The flwering stage is crucial fr plant reprductive develpment. “We want t investigate hw micr-gravity can affect the plant flwering time and whether it is pssible t use the micr-gravity envirnment t cntrl the related prcess,” she said.

Staying psitive thrugh the cld seasn culd be the best defense against getting sick, a new American study suggests.
In an experiment that expsed health y vlunteers t a cld r flu virus, researchers fund that peple with a generally sunny character were less likely t fall ill.
The findings, published in the jurnal Psychsmatic Medicine, build n evidence that a "psitive emtinal style" can help prtect us frm the cmmn cld and ther illnesses.
“Peple with a psitive emtinal style may have different immune(免疫的) respnses t the virus, ”explained lead study authr Dr Sheldn Chen f Carnegie Melln University in Pittsburgh. “And when they d get a cld, they may experience their illness as less severe.”
Chen and his clleagues had fund in a previus study that happier peple seemed less susceptible(易受影响的) t catching a cld, but sme questins remained as t whether the emtinal quality itself had the effect.
Fr the new study, the researchers had 193 healthy adults cmplete standard measures f persnality qualities, physical health and "emtinal style".
